《I Need Time》28

I spot a happy Aelynthi skipping over to me and a 40cm fairy flying behind her. The fairy has violet hair down to her back, she is wearing a white one piece dress down to her calves, the dress covers her arms and is wide sleeved towards her wrists. When she flies over closer I notice her wings have a violet tinge with silver sparkles and then I focus on her mesmerizing silver eyes, as I am staring at her eyes I am woken up by a painful pinch on my arm. I look down to see a displeased Aelynthi, the fairy laughs at this. I decide to get revenge for the pinch. I grab hold of Aelynthi and kiss her on the lips for a good 10 seconds. This seems to surprise Aelynthi and not only her, but all the onlookers are surprised at this turn of events. When I let go, Aelynthi is red and I feel incredible shyness and some worry from her, of course she does not push me away but is now hiding in my chest.
"Bastard, not that status." Oh, what other status do I have? I shrug, there is not much of difference, she probably did not want to share just yet due to shyness. Oh, I forgot about her mother. Her mother's reaction to this information will not be positive. The 40cm fairy is looking on with great interest, I address her with telepathy.
"Aelynthis friend I presume?"
Violet haired fairy smiles and says: "She called me just a friend? I practically raised her. I have been her teacher her for years now." Alright, so how does this fit in together? Well, I have no idea how long the war was and during what age she was taken care of by this fairy so I will leave the questions for later.

"I am Anton Ippolitov, Aelynthis... boyfriend."
"Just boyfriend? She seems to have fallen for you... sorry, impolite of me." She does a graceful curtsy. "I am Viola Silvercloud, Princess and first in line for the throne of this fine forest"
"You raised her? For how long?"
"20 years, we still have more to go. She is young and has a lot to learn. I heard from her that you are from a far away land?"
"I agree she has a lot to learn, especially about the word no and boundaries. Yes, I am from a far away land."
Viola turns towards the group of elders, says a few short words and turns back to me as they leave.
“How long have you known Aelynthi?”
“A couple of months. We met by accident and then got into a little of trouble but I got us through it. How many people will be visiting you for your important day? Any elves from Brypeiros?”
She ignores my questions and looks at Aelynthi who is hiding in my chest.
Viola: '····························'
I am pinched by Aelynthi as Viola laughs.
"You are my fiancé." When did I agree? I am unable to say no to her... Does that mean I agreed?
Aelynthi: '·····························'
Viola: "··························································" I am pinched multiple times this time. I guessed Viola would tell Aelynthi about my comment but not immediately.
"I know you are afraid of the future, afraid of commitment but it is too late now. We shall make the best of it. I am yours and you will be mine." I think she likes to proclaim herself as mine... Viola looks at us with interest bordering on suspicion, did she want to see Aelynthis reaction? Why?
Viola face loses her smile as she says: "What are your intentions for Aelynthi?"

I speak to Aelynthi: "Your teacher seems to be suspicious of my motives in our relationship."
"I am a child in her eyes, my words about you were empty air to her." I guessed something similar.
"Well at least she seems to care about you. How can we resolve this situation without this escalating?"
Aelynthi says something to Viola: "······················································································································"
The result of Aelynthi words have gotten a good reaction alright. Viola has a staff in hand and fairies are flying towards us from all directions.
"I said not escalate, I did not say escalate."

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.

Delve
Truth hides behind action. Delve. A word with many meanings. It may refer to an abyss, a dark place of no return or may also be a refuge, a haven of retreat from the harshness of the outside. None of those are right to me. For me, to delve is to seek the truth. Delving into that dark abyss and coming back with answers. To leave that safe refuge and suffer the pain of the outside just because it is real. This is the story of me delving deep into the truths of the universe. Suffering things that should not be suffered in search of things that should not be known. Once a common man, drowned in the same questions that have plagued humanity since the beginning of times, now I have found my answers. Now I have meaning. Delve, and you shall have yours as well. Jack is a regular citizen of modern society: he works on an office, uses public transport every day, receives a meager salary, and drowns his frustrations with entertainment and alcohol. Maybe, the only thing that sets him apart from many others, is his unique outlook on life. Despite feeling an unfillable void in his soul and suffering from deep depression, he still sees as his duty to be a functional, exemplary member of society. All in order to prove his life-goal point: no matter how good you are, life is still shit. This point-of-view, however, will be challenged by circumstances as a mysterious encounter with a weirdly dressed man takes him to a strange and dark cave. In this place, he will have to fight for his life against fantastical creatures from fiction, and more importantly, get face to face with his own nature. In doing so, he will uncover secrets about the cave that will change both him and all he ever thought to be true.
