《Almave》Not a chapter

So let me tell you about my world and how it formed. One needs at least 500 words to drop a "chapter" and I feel bad about all this so I'm using my phone.

Five years ago, I was introduced to the idea of dungeon core books and through them, LitRPG. The two seem to go hand in hand with their little blue boxes that everyone loves and hates so much. While I love reading stats and loot, the stories that speak to me most are the ones with over arcing story lines.

Serial novels on Reddit that never end and cultivation novels are guilty pleasures but they lose something when I can summarize them to my friends as they almost get beat then win. Sure, the combat scenes are thrilling but truly outsmarting the reader (and thus the enemy) needs something more to it. And I find it hard to find those books.

And as most of the friends I've made in discords from this site (and a couple IRL!), I wanted to eventually write my own.

What world can I see if I close my eyes? A world of magic that is magic. A world that's not afraid to pull punches and a world that I fall asleep dreaming of. Too many of the things I've seen in our world bleed into Almavey but I think with a bit of time we can get there.

All of that to say, let me tell you about one of the coolest locations in my world.

The Coorriders

Once upon a time, a civilization of humans pushed their ability to create automated processes to the limit. They began small with factories that produced goods and transportation to sell said goods across the lands around them. A faction within them realized that to continue to produce goods, they would need metals and other resources from the earth. They focused on creating golems that would eventually take the place of miners.

Under their creator's control, these golems tore ores deep from the earth. They uprooted trees for miles and miles around the capital of this civilization. For a time, there was a boom of prosperity and those who made the golems were rulers.

The civilization took on the name of their crowning achievement as Golumians.

However, the races and kingdoms around the Golemians grew jealous for their treasures. The Golumians were threatened and blood was shed. The secret of building golems was the lynchpin of the war and yet it was the heart of the civilization.

Seeing that the secret would not be shared, ancient mages cast a grand spell that was powered by the damage the Golemians did to their own land. The desolate lands leading to their city became energy to crush those who desecrated it.

This is the story that is told travelors to the Coorridors. Great chasms radiate out from a valley by the coast where the Golumian city once stood. Like spiderwebs, the chasms trap and confuse monsters within it. Ambicious hunters all over the world come to try their luck hunting the monsters there.

And rightfully so.

Huge beings of strange form hunt the dark alleyways of the Coorriders. Warrens of caves hide extravengant crystal desposits where mana naturally forms in the magically altered landscape. Hunters can choose to "jump" difficulties by traveling overtop the platues above the chasms or travel the lower grounds and test the Goddess' mercy.

Thousands of miles of chasms refuse to be mapped as monsters create their own paths through the base of the platues. The Coorriders will never lack for human attention as treasure hunters flood the newly built captial on the ruins of the old. After all, the secrets of the Golems have yet to be found. Where else could you find a fortune as grand as the secrets of a civiliation targetted by the ancient world?
