Chapter 45: Into the Abyss

I have my personal reasons why I have decided to create a new faction between Arcadia and the Chevalier Unit. I haven’t forgiven Airi and Estoff for what they did, but I still do have a little trust in them. They wanted to change in a peaceful manner and start over again. Airi regret killing people, which is why for the past three years, they decided to avoid any casualty on their operations.

I wanted to make me look like I’m still on their side. My only reason for keeping this alliance is to have the Dragonoid Rights Bill passed. After I win the tournament…After every war subsides…I’ll ditch the Arcadia. I will leave Airi behind, and cut all our bonds. I wanted them to experience how it feels to be used and betrayed like a dirty rag. Just like what they did to Zac Schneider.

That is why I will give everything in this upcoming fight.

“Welcome to the Quarterfinals of the Dragon Knights Tournament!” The emcee proclaimed loudly. “Today we will see the last eight dragon knights standing in this tournament!”

Blah blah blah. The emcee’s introductory speech is pure sweet garbage and lengthy. But the audiences are buying his words, I can say because I can hear the cheers here back in the offstage. I am impatiently tapping the sole of my foot while waiting for my noisy dragonoid. She’s still on the women’s restroom to do her ‘final touch’. What’s the sense of wearing make-up if you’re going to a bloody battle in the middle of the coliseum? Do all ladies do that?

“AM-PHERE-HA-RRI-SON!!!” There was a sudden outburst. It was Airi! And she’s running to me!

She leaped forward, flipping her body in the midair like a ninja! Then she crashed to my face! She had her thighs locked on my neck, and her breast above my head. She’s covering my vision with her skirt! I can smell a weird yet soothing perfume.

“Let’s win this battle fast! Totally!” She shouted as she hugged my head.

When she managed to calm down a tad bit, we readied ourselves to march into the light- the center of the arena. Since there are only eight participants left in the Dragon Knights Tournament, the emcee took his sweet time to introduce our entrance.

“In the left corner, is the now-famed attorney-knight! His wits and his dragonoid’s power is a perfect match that destroyed every opponent they encounter! Sir Amphere Harrison!”

The crowd got wild. It’s certainly weird because I haven’t got this much fans before. What’s weirder is that there are female performers who have this cheer: “Harrison! Harrison! L-O-V-E Harrison!!!” These…are my new fan girls. It’s certainly embarrassing and annoying.

Airi told me that I got my fans through displaying my battle capabilities and also the court trial that happened a week ago. That really gave me the spotlight.

“Introducing to the right corner, is the playboy of the academy! His dark aura makes all his enemies tremble! Sir Dennis Rychenn!”

Dennis Rychenn is a short man who have this spiky black hair. He’s always wearing a white bandana, and his primary weapon is a wooden bow. He calls himself the “Cupid” since he always gets most of the girls in class. That is why there is an opposing band of cheerleaders on the other side. “Go, go Rychenn! Handsome Rychenn!!!”

Dennis’ dragonoid is a short maid, who has this blue-dyed bowl cut hair. I don’t know her real name, but Dennis call her Waifu. Friggin weab. And also a pedo. His dragonoid is just twelve years old, and considering that they already unlocked Dracaryx… Well… That’s something.

“Let the battle begin!” The emcee shouted and the buzzer screamed.

“By the way, that dragonoid is Lyka. Totally!” Airi reminded me as she prepared a centered stance.

I immediately lead the charge, pointing my photon saber. Lyka leaped forward and attacked me with a series of swings of her heavy chains, which are attached from her wrists. Airi and I blocked it in a synchronized manner, and then prepared for a hacking attack!

Lyka dodged back, giving clearance for Dennis to fire three arrows to me! I barely evaded the two arrows, which grazed my shield to 70%. The last arrow is supposed to be a direct hit on me, but Airi deflected it with her photon saber! I didn’t have the time to thank her, because the enemy dragonoid is now making a ranged attack!

The maid slammed the ground with her fist, and hundreds of debris floated. She used the chains to wrap and throw the rocks just like how a slingshot does things! This is not your regular twelve-year-old dragonoid! I managed to block and parry ten or eleven rocks, but the arrows seem to be a problem! I can’t maintain my shield on if I’m just single-wielding!

“Airi, give me your sword and switch to armament mode!” I commanded. She answered “Totally!” as she threw me my other photon saber. Chunks of metal emerged from her back, the same way how Doctor Octopus deploys his robotic tentacles. But Airi didn’t have those steel limbs for walking. It morphed to cannons which she used to fire aerial torpedoes to intercept the rocks and arrows!

As soon as I got my dynamos on the move, I already know that we are taking the upper hand. My dynamos’ lasers got Dennis shield working at 50%, and his arrows failed to approach me. That is why he decided to fight us more seriously.

“Activating Vesryn Pulse!”

Bill of the American eagle. Talon claws of a griffon. Scales of a komodo dragon. This seven-meter lizard’s body is mostly covered by black feathers, except for its body which is covered by bulletproof scales. It has the wings of a giant black hawk. This is why my enemy dragon is called a Black Feather Dragon.

There is no way to defeat that in human form, so I activated Vesryn Pulse to have Airi on her Futuretech Dragon form. As soon as Airi’s transformation ended, the Black Feather Dragon stormed us with countless black feather-arrows! I tried toasting them with my dynamo’s lasers and Airi’s machine guns but there’s a lot of it, probably ten thousands!

Activating Force Field Airi said. Then a bubble wrapped the entire Futuretech Dragon’s body. The bubble repelled seventy percent of the incoming projectiles. Thirty percent of those arrows came through, which gave random sparks to my dragon’s robotic body. It looks like she’s suffering from short circuit, which made her movements sluggish.

Our opponent doesn’t have a killing blow, but uses their long range to decapitate their enemy’s dragon. Those black feather arrows are completely unevadable. Good thing it only scraped about 20% of my shield.

“I acknowledge your power, Amphere Harrison.” Dennis sighed. “We are honored to fight you. But this battle ends now.”

There was a chill on my spine as he opened his mouth again. “DRACARYX!!! Activate Abyssal Hole!!!”

The Black Feather Dragon formed a ball of darkness on its talon hands, and launched it to our direction! Because of having a slower reaction time than usual, Airi has no choice but to catch it with her arms and wings. That ball, which is about two meters in diameter, works as a black hole! There is a strong gravitational pull that even peels the ground and absorbs it to the void of eternal darkness!

“This…is the power of Dracaryx!?” Airi complained on my head.

Meanwhile, my shield plate is reducing by one percent as a split second goes by.
