《The Divine Mortal》Chapter 24: Unexpected Findings(2)

Roy sat beside the sleeping middle-aged woman. Her red sleeves pushed up to her elbows, exposing a pair of creamy, snow-white arms.
Watching the middle-aged woman lying on the plain grassland, Roy circulated the spiritual force that he drew from the Voidweaver Ring. Then, pointed a finger at the middle-aged woman’s chest, his finger subsequently moved lower along the woman’s body. He jabbed her body a few more times with his finger and by the time he was done, Roy was panting heavily. Beads of sweat were dripping from his forehead.
Roy opened the package that he got from his inventory, and took out a silver box. He let out a sigh, and a look of shock and bewilderment appeared on his face: “This woman.."
He opened the silver box. Surprisingly, arranged inside were several tens of thread-thin silver needles.
""
In the entire Garrhant Continent, there weren’t even ten people that could perform acupuncture, this was something that he found out from his predecessor's memories. Originally, he hadn't known about medicine nor did he know any medical treatment to treat an injured person, he only did what was written in the medicinal scrolls.
Roy took out a silver needle, gripping its base with two fingers… When Roy picked up the silver needle, the violet monkey’s gaze became slightly distracted. That was because, in Roy’s hands, that silver needle had a kind of indescribably feeling of harmony, as if it had been naturally grown from Roy’s hands. This feeling was very subtle and indescribable, yet it clearly and truly existed.
Roy opened a small bottle and carefully dipped the silver needle inside:
“This is only an ordinary juice from the scarlet sunflower,” Roy said to the monkey as its eyes were beaming with curiousness over the thing. Then, Roy's gaze fell upon the woman’s snowy arms. The left hand holding the silver needle flickered slightly.

Roy’s movement was exceedingly fast. When Roy’s left hand withdrew, the silver needle between his fingers could no longer be seen. Instead, on her right wrist, a silver needle was inserted vertically… accurately landing on the Yang Chi acupuncture point.
The second silver needle was picked up by Roy and dipped in the scarlet sunflower juice. As he leaned towards the woman’s right wrist, his wrist shook slightly and the second silver needle accurately pierced the Yang Gu acupuncture point. The third and fourth needles were pierced into the Zhong Zhu and He Gu points respectively.
Suddenly, wisps of white mist slowly rose above the eight silver needles, the cold air stored within quickly lowering the surrounding temperature. Upon feeling the cold air fleeing from her meridians and the quickly rising white fog, the woman’s snowy face violently twitched.
It took a few minutes for the white fog to completely stop rising. At this time, Roy suddenly reached out and flicked both his hands, his fingers moving like a mirage. In a split second, all eight of the silver needles that had been pierced into the woman’s hands had been returned to his and then placed in a different case.
“This cold air was even heavier than I thought. It’s good that you met me.” Roy muttered in a small voice, then closed the silver needle case.
Her eyes wavering. Then, she slowly opened her eyes, finally awake. She got up slowly supporting her weight with her hand, she observed the surroundings and her gaze fell on Roy in the end. With a surprised look on her face, Via Arum asked: “Huh? Where is this?" she added, "..Little Brother, you are the one who saved me?”
“That’s right.” Roy nodded his head.
Light, cozy, warm… that was how her hands felt right now. As if she was suddenly freed from some kind of heavy restraint. It was the first time since she started cultivating the Abyssal Sacred Arts that she had felt this kind of warmth in her palm and arms. She lifted her eyes to look at Roy, asking in astonishment: “..Who are you?”

"My name is Roy," he said, smiling. "I am a serv- disciple of Supreme Sword Sect." he said casually.
".."
"So, this place is.."
"Mhm. Currently, we are in the peripheral area of Supreme Sword Sect's Mega Mountain Range."
Via Arum tried her best to get up; frowning abruptly: “Supreme Sword Sect? Mega Mountain Range?” In her memory, there’s no recollection of where this place is.
“Little Brother, thank you very much for saving me; I have some matters to attend to, so I need to leave first.” Just when Via Arum wanted to walk, suddenly, a violent pain erupted inside her body, and with a “Waaa” blood spurted out from her mouth and she fell to the ground.
Roy quickly helped her and propped her up, he said: “You were heavily injured. The meridians inside your body are broken. I temporarily used ‘Immersion Finger’ to stabilize your injury and your vital acupuncture points. If you move recklessly…” When he got to this point, Roy stopped explaining, for the consequences are clear.
“Immersion Finger? Acupuncture points?” Via Arum looked at Roy meekly.
“It’s simple. I just released the cold air inside your hands and the meridians in your hands. At the same time, I unblocked the clogged meridians. That’s all."
Roy did not bother to explain further, changing the topic, he asked: “You are a follower of Abyss’s Gate, aren’t you?” While he was applying for the medicine, Roy had noticed a certain symbol on Via Arum’s left arm; a sign of Abyss’s Gate retainers, which was why Roy decided to try to save her.
“What? Who are you? How do you know I’m an Abyss’s Gate follower?” Via Arum was greatly shocked, looking at Roy warily.
Again Roy did not answer, under Via Arum’s watchful eyes he raised his left hand, and a dark black ring appeared on his left ring finger.
“V- V- Voidweaver Ring!” Looking at the dark black ring, Via Arum’s body trembled with excitement after a moment she snapped out of her daze, finding it hard to believe.
Roy quietly observed Via Arum’s reaction; according to the piece of the inscriptions, this Voidweaver’s Ring was the symbol and proof of Abyss’s Gate Sovereign, and any followers who saw the ring would kneel and bow down in a prostrate position.
After Via Arum’s shock and excitement passed, recovering her senses, she instantly knelt down and kowtowed before Roy: “Via Arum follower of Abyss’s Gate greets Sovereign!”

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
