《The Divine Mortal》Chapter 7: The First Mission
Advertisement
Roy had already reached the depths of the Dark Purple Forest.
Right now, he stood atop a towering tree and watched a small and mysterious cave in the distance. The sky above the cave was shrouded in a layer of fog and frost. A flock of wolf-like beasts was seen some distance away from the mouth of the cave, it seemed to be their nest.
Looking at the almost identical features they bore, he couldn't help but be reminded again of the strange dog a few days back. It was mentioning about some lord of his? Was there any relation to me?
He shrugged before looking at the cave entrance again.
Whenever a fierce wild beast passed by the cave, it showed an extremely cautious expression, and rushed past the cave at its top speed.
When the beasts looked at the cave, they showed extremely fearful and respectful expressions.
"Huh? Seems like this cave is a dangerous one." he muttered upon seeing such a sight, began to scurry back to a safe distance from the particular cave.
Before he could proceed further, the system's mechanical voice rang in his mind.
[DING!]
Mission System
Obtain mysterious items in the cave
⋆Rewards: 50 System Points
Difficulty: Easy
What the fu-? The rewards is 50 system points? Are you kidding?
I've got only a little more than 70 points for the last few days by killing hundreds of those lesser wild beasts!
Now you would give away these 'free' system points for some cheap quest of picking up some random unknown objects?
I won't buy it!
Furthermore, what's with that suspicious red-colored word as an 'easy' term, does such a color could represent the term as 'easy'?
What an unscrupulous system. Am I meant to accept this quest? My f*cking experience as a f*cking gamer told me not to!

This has to be a scam!
...
At the same time, in the depths of the same forest, within a certain cave filled with dried grass was a sleeping old man in ragged clothing!
His hair was disheveled and his body reeked of alcohol. At one glance, he looked nothing more than a drunk beggar.
Yet surprisingly, there were a pair of Red Flame Wolves which were of the Spirit Formation Stage. They lay next to him shivering in cold.
The old man was in a deep sleep when he suddenly sat up in his straw bed and wriggled his nose, muttering, “What’s that smell? What is this strangeness?"
The two Red Flame Wolves suddenly trembled, their eyes filled with fear and were afraid to say anything as if they were worried that the old man would eat them.
The old man glared at them. “Good-for-nothings, what are you scared of? Your rotten meat isn’t even worthy to be considered by me!” scolded the old man before wriggling his nose again and taking a deep breath, his face exuded a look of pleasure.
After a few breaths, he licked his lips and looked at the Red Flame Wolves, speaking in a deep voice, “Have you investigated on what I’ve instructed? I would like to see who is the suicidal person that would dare trespass my territory."
The two Red Flame Wolves trembled and hurriedly replied, “Y-Yes. Few days ago, a young man named Roy Ambers appeared in the peripheral area of the eastern part of this forest." they dared not hide the matter, immediately recounted everything explicitly, without leaving out any small details.
“Just like that? How ridiculous. What bullshit is those so-called Great Families ? They’re just a bunch of morons. A cheat comes along and tries to pass off as that b*stard people and they just believe him so easily?” The old man cursed while digging at his dirty feet.

"Unless there's some schemes in the play.." the old beggar's eyes shot towards the cave's entrance, peering into a distance.
“Oh, let's see what this fella is made of. After killing him, I'll ransack their palace for a compensation. Tsk, tsk, tsk… Still, how dare those people tried to use me on this whole farce. Were it not for the fact that I still had some use of them, I would have torn those people apart their mothers wouldn't be able to recognize! They are trying to destroy my lifelong legendary reputation! Hmph!” the old man grumbled indignantly.
...
A short while later, he arrived at the hole entrance of the cave and entered without much determination. He was feeling uneasy the moment he got close to the entrance. Although his strength had increased a lot by leaps and bounds in these few days thanks to the system's guidance. Still, this feeling of discomfort grew bigger and bigger but he couldn't pinpoint what it was.
Entering through the hole, Roy noticed the walls were dry and not slippery wet as one would imagine. On one side of the cave wall, there was a Fire Dispersing Pearl the size of a goose egg embedded in it.
If this pearl was taken out for an auction, its worth would exceed one hundred thousand gold coins.
One has to know that such a sum could easily be on par with any third-rate family's annual incomes! How great is that! Well, not bad at all.
This was one of the reason why Roy would want to accept the system's quest mission. After all, he was broke now without even a single penny in his possession. Though, he hadn't planned to go out of the forest yet. But it was best to have some savings should a crisis arise.
Roy couldn’t help but be curious about this cave. The lights are so dim, that you can’t see anything far away into the darkness, this was literally a maze. He took out a rather thin firewood, light it up. Thus, quickly a surge of flame was lit.
Walking along the tunnel for about dozen meters, he came to an empty hall about a hundred square meters wide yet it was obvious at a glance there was nothing inside the hall. There were three other rooms apart from the empty hall though. Roy walked towards the first room.
In the first room, he gained nothing. It was empty, just like the hall outside.
He moved on to the second room and it was also empty.
“F**k, don’t tell me the third room is empty too?!” Roy couldn’t help but exclaim to himself.
Standing in front of the third room, Roy slowly peeked inside. Finally, inside the third room there was a jade bed and on top of the jade bed was a book made from unknown materials. On the walls hung a pair of half-meter long black shiny blades.

Apex Immortal: a LitRPG system rampage
"Across the multiverse where the contest for power is the only constant, only a handful have succeeded in reaching the ultimate heights of ascendency and gained the title Apex Immortal. Dominus is one of them, unsurpassed in overwhelming violence, feared across universes. Now, memories locked and stranded far away from everything he’d built, Dominus will face enemies that will challenge even his powers and discover that change is more difficult than destruction." I’ve been writing fiction on and off for the last decade and I’ve always wondered how a peak immortal (or an OP superhero) would single handedly conquer a world that mirrors our own in all of its complexity. As a politics nerd, this is my attempt at answering that question using Machiavelli’s “The Prince” as the primary playbook. The “monsters” are entire political systems with entrenched culture. Expect many versions of real world political systems (and cultures) to be on the hit list. The MC has to successfully institute regime and cultural change without engaging in wholesale genocide and causing the state to fail. Expect things to go wrong pretty quickly as escalating and cascading political and economic effects rapidly go out of control. Methods deployed are not for the faint hearted.

The Tears of Kas̆dael
It was just supposed to be a game. A really, really great game, yes - but a game. Instead, Jasper got his heart ripped out by a brooding goddess and awoke to find himself in another world. No weapons, no skills. Naked. Trapped in a world full of ancient horrors, where gods and monsters still roam the earth, Jasper is forced to adapt quickly or die - and he's not ready to die. Good thing he's a mage. This is a high-fantasy novel with light LitRPG elements. It's not super-crunchy, but the system is an important part of the story. There is some light cursing and gore, but this is not a Grimdark novel. There will also be no harem. The current schedule is chapters on M-W-F of around 2000-2500 words, as well as occasional bonus chapters that provide background or insights into side characters. This is my first real attempt at writing a full novel, but the story is based on a world that I've been creating and re-creating since I was a child. I have an extensive "history" and religion, and even a semi-cohesive language system worked out, which will hopefully slowly shine through as the story progresses. I want to avoid having too many info-dumps, so I may from time to time post a bonus lore chapter that will explain some of the background for any who are interested.
