《The Bridges We Must Cross (Part 1/5)》Chapter 23

I quietly settled onto the floor a few moments after Serah did. I sat behind her quietly and watched everyone.
Tanner’s shoulders were still tense after the encounter with the spies.
While we had settled down, the royals still stood around, nervously glancing around.
“Okay.” Elizabeth said finally, “I’m tired.”
“It’s not even that late…” Henry started but Elizabeth cut him off.
“Serah?” She asked as she stepped towards the door.
Serah was busy nibbling on a cookie, she seemed lost in thought. Elizabeth nudged her, “Cap!”
Serah jerked her head up to look at Elizabeth, “What?”
“Come on!” Then Elizabeth gave me a pointed looking I sighed as I stood to my feet and followed her out.
“Don’t kill anyone, Tanner.” I said as I vanished out the door. His only reply was a grunt.
Elizabeth dragged us to her room, where she pushed us onto her bed and locked the door.
Then she turned with crossed arms and glared at both of us, her sharp blue eyes flicking from me to Serah and back again, “Talk.” She ordered.
Serah sighed and lazily plopped back on the bed, “Some girl came onto the island with the emerald hanging around her neck. I saw her as a threat. What’s there to—“
“Not that!” Elizabeth interrupted, “Guys. Let’s talk guys.”
“Let’s not.” Serah replied, closing her eyes.
Elizabeth lunged at her and jumped on top of her, grabbing her shoulders and shaking her until her eyes opened with an irritated flash.
“I see the way you look at him.” Elizabeth said, “You’ve fallen for him.” She said it matter-of-factly.
I hummed, “Serah’s in love!”
“No!” Serah protested, scowling at us both, “No, no, no. I’m not.”

“Don’t deny it!” Elizabeth cried, as she rolled onto her back, giggling.
“You are too!” Serah said suddenly.
Elizabeth’s laughter instantly faded, and in reply, both Serah and I burst into fits of giggling.
“You’ve fallen for the hot one.” I grinned, “Will.”
“William.” Elizabeth corrected, “He doesn’t like the name Will.”
Serah laughed, “You know what he likes and doesn’t like now?”
She winked, “What does he like about you?”
Elizabeth blushed slightly, “Well…uh…I don’t know…”
“I’ll bet it’s your blush.” I said, “You’re cute when you blush.”
“But enough about me now.” Elizabeth said sharply turning to Serah, “What does Perryn like about you?”
“Whoa. Perryn?” I instantly demanded.
“Go big or go home.” Serah said with a sly smirk. Then she shrugged, “I mean, I’m pretty amazing so I don’t know what’s not to love about me.”
Elizabeth pouted, “You’re avoiding the actual question.”
“No, I’m not! I just answered it.”
A sudden knock at the door made all three of us sit straight up.
“Are we alright in here?” Henry’s voice echoed out.
We instantly jumped to our feet and ran to the door. Elizabeth opened it slightly to peek out. Serah lifted her head above Elizabeth’s and I lifted mine above Serah’s. Henry stood outside, blinking at us, “We heard banging…” He said slowly.
“Yeah. We were banging around. Do you have a problem?” Elizabeth demanded.
Suddenly Amber shoved past Henry.
She crossed her arms and glared at us, “I was listening through the vents in the roof to your conversation and we need to talk.”
“Why were you eavesdropping?” Elizabeth asked.
"How'd you get on the roof?" Serah demanded, frowning.
But Amber didn’t answer, instead she lunged forward, grabbed Serah’s collar and began to drag her down the hall. Serah sighed as she vanished down the hallway.
“What were you talking about?” Henry asked, turning to us.
“We were plotting Philip’s murder.” Elizabeth said, “Now since Amber has heard us we need to go rescue Serah and kill Amber too because she knows too much.”
“Ah.” Henry replied, nodding, “Okay.”

Valor and Violence
Valor and Violence is a series of short stories following different, yet all equally colourful, characters set in the same world. Birth of a Legend, the first short, follows Captain Erskine Erwell, a newly promoted Captain in the Calandorian Royal Navy, charged with protecting his people from all who would do them harm. Great news for the Calandorian citizens, bad news for the Skjar reavers that ravage the shores in search of slaves. But when a small reaver fleet slips the net and escapes to the southern jungles of Marduk, Erwell must fight a war on two fronts; one against the raiders, and a far more difficult war against the hostile landscape. If he can't find allies in this strange land, he may end up being the one in need of saving. The first part of the second short story will be uploaded on Saturday, the 11th of June, following Ferez Ahud, an aspiring young battlemage charged with the unsavoury job of 'terminating' a rogue member of his college. But how this nobody of a mage became a fugitive remains a mystery, and when the answer is discovered, the tables are turned and the hunter becomes the prey. I'll be uploading chapters of more in-universe short stories each week or as close to, work permitting. Content Guidelines: course language and violence

The Undead Revolution
This was my first attempt at writing a story, in hiatus indefinitely. This story follows Silvy, half-elf, a rare race despised by both humans and elves. Having never met her father, the first years of her life were spent together with her mother, who had to leave her native village because of the blasphemy she had committed by giving birth to Silvy. At the age of eight, Silvy became an orphan and was left to fend for herself. Her mother had died of illness, Silvy’s life turning upside down: the child went from living in a modest but cozy home with poor but daily meals to live outside the walls in the slums, where crime was commonplace and food was scarce. Luck had yet to abandon her completely though, because a group of orphans like Silvy decided to help, integrating her into their group and teaching the tricks of the trade; that is, stealing and swindling. But fate had not yet finished playing with her. Kidnapped and frightened, her life will turn upside down again when she awakens as undead, but still able to think clearly.
