In a small room, deep underground, a woman stirred. After numerous days of inactivity, life was breathed back into her. Any observer, which there were none at the moment, could see an instantaneous change.

It could be debated whether or not it was for the better.

Sweat began to accumulate across her body. She tossed and she turned, clearly uncomfortable for some unknown reason. Her sheets began to dampen with her sweat. Soon enough, she and the bed itself were entirely soaked.

The woman then pulled her eyes open, awake but not entirely present. Confused and distressed, she flailed around. Or attempted to. She soon realized her arms were locked to her sides along with her other limbs. Underneath the covers, someone had strapped her to the bed.

This restriction on top of everything else she was experiencing was enough to send her into a panic. Fruitless struggling and hyperventilating only saw to increase her fear even further. Her limbs began to chafe under her continuous struggle.

And then all of that was brought to a halt buy one window. A window she and many like her wait all their life to see. And few ever did.

She could only stare at the window, her muddled mind failing to process the visual information properly. Slowly, emotions began to fill her one by one. Elation, for she had attained the coveted Level 0. Which meant she was on the path to power. Relief, as the gamble she had taken had paid off. Fear, as she was now on a path full of further risk and danger, that she would never be allowed to leave.

She moistened her dry cracked lips. Everyone knew there was only one way to be entirely sure she wasn’t hallucinating. It took her a few tries before throat was able to croak out the words.

Isha couldn’t help but smile, even as exhausted and malnourished she felt. While not having a Class already was sad, having none at all was better than an unfavorable one. The natural-born Commoners were one too many in this day and age.

Then she got to the bottom of the window. Minion.

Isha was confused at this word. She understood it, there was no doubt about that. The System made sure to translate the information is provided in an understandable to the respective user. The problem was that there shouldn’t even be the word minion on her sheet.

Unless you were a specific Class, it was impossible to have a Minion before Rank 1, much less Level 0. As far as Isha knew at least. And she knew enough, considering she’d been working on gaining access to the system as soon as possible.

Might be a result of her nonstandard method of gaining access. Pumping your body full of foreign mana is exceedingly dangerous as a mage already, its any wonder something bizarre resulted because of it. Isha was just lucky she hadn’t woken up to some random mutation or having her class be Mad Mage automatically.

Dark thoughts aside, it was probably in her best interest to check up on her Minion. Assuming the System wasn’t mistaken, which it likely wasn’t, she had another resource to get out of this hellhole. Beggars can’t be choosers and she was incredibly desperate.

What? Did... did the System just respond? Isha was entirely taken aback by this, confusion along with hints of fear riddling her mind as she saw an even more preposterous situation before her eyes.

The System never communicated. Beyond being a mystical trove of information and guiding hand, the System was entirely void of communication. An indiscriminate method of granting power to all natives and visitors of Altera, regardless of your moral inclination or level of sentience. It was entirely autonomous and detached.

It never asked if you were sure about your choices. Isha, seeing a clear counter to this fact, was filled with apprehension. One could only imagine how possibly dangerous of a situation she was in to have the System act out.

The pragmatic decision here would be to just say no and ask someone else what she would do. Who's to say saying yes wasn’t paramount to suicide. Unfortunately for her, Isha didn’t have the luxury of taking her time. She was on the clock. Ever since she first took that drop mana from the stranger Jerald brought, there was no turning back.

She had spent who knows how many days trying to acclimate to the mana in her body. Jerald could only stall for so much time. Better to do it now rather than let the potential danger rot and somehow get worse or come up at an inopportune moment. If anything did go wrong, she’d be safe from further harm here than anywhere else.

Her eyes began to bleed. A slow paralysis overtook her body as she staired at her Minion’s screen. Minutes pass, before the window shut itself without prompting. Isha remained still, eyes staring into nothing and remained unblinking.

A being steps into her room. An unassuming individual that would blend with all the others on a casual walk of the streets. Different, but not significant enough to be a memory to anyone who walked past them. Entirely unextraordinary.

“I have to say, you are quite the handful young lady. Five minutes of access and you’ve managed to rip your mind asunder. I’d call it an achievement if it weren’t so tragic.”

Flipping through their windows, the being is backtracking through Isha’s message log. All the while, Isha was unresponsive and continuously bleeding. She appeared to be dead. Debatable, as it relied on the question if living in a vegetated state was considered to be alive.

“Ah, I see the problem. Seems you’ve managed to summon a Legacy Spirit. The latest System was too far along to appropriately translate, which led to a glitch. And of course, a Level 0 would have no means of properly understanding deity level coding. I’ll need to patch that, otherwise someone will try to weaponize it. You, mortals, do love your unconventional murder weapons. I’d hate to see another Chicken Swarm fiasco too soon again.”

The being knew Isha wasn’t listening at the moment. Much less being capable of listening in and of itself. But it always helps to have something to talk to. Sometimes just talking to a brick wall was enough to find a solution to a problem. Not that this would be much of a problem.

“Alright, I will put in an overlay to give you the relevant information, so you don’t melt your brain again. Then I’ll just delete your minion, resummon a more appropriate undead and it’ll all be good as-“

The being, a creature of near-limitless power and older than the first grain of salt made on this world was taken by surprise. For the first time in their near-infinite life, they were just denied access by the System.

While a being of greater wisdom and vast knowledge beyond the scope of a mortal mind, they were still prone to more mortal like activities. Like trying to force their way through a problem by smashing their heads, or in this case magical buttons, until the problem failed to resolve itself enough times.

Silence. Even in her brain-dead state, Isha was still capable of experiencing the unbridled rage coming from the deity in her room. She whimpered. Without a word, the being fixed the problems they could and decided to leave this specific issue for another day.

“It’s just one measly skeleton. How bad could it be?”

And with those words, the being snapped their fingers and left the room. Isha looking untouched and unchanged from the last time Jerald had seen her. Undisturbed and completely healthy. As the past couple minutes had not occurred at all.

All the while, some poor Acolytes to the God of Coding, which there were only two of at the moment, were subjected to the most rigorous training they had in years. While under the guise of mentorship and guidance, the God was flexing their authority to release some stress. Trying their best to forget about the whole skeleton situation.

Then Isha leveled up all the way to level 5 due to one dangerous skelly boy.
