《The Power of Systems》Chapter 18 - The Synchronization of Consciousnesses

Heading west towards the Wastelands, I wanted to strike up a conversation with Othidas who had been unusually quiet this whole time. Maybe it was just his silent opinion of not wanting to work with me to share our body and rely on each others power.
“Othidas, don’t you want to at least try to practice synchronizing ourselves a little bit?” I said frustratingly. “You probably just want my body for yourself, but that won’t happen so this is the next best option.”
There was still no response, so with a deep sigh I continued speeding over the terrain towards my destination. The Wastelands weren’t that far away, about a few minutes away at most if I went at full speed but that wasn’t the problem with traveling there. The closer one got towards the Wastelands, the more sulfurious and suffocating the air, and the difficult terrain full of sinkholes and lava pools to trek. I didn’t see why this would be a good area to train in until I headed deeper. That’s when I noticed the weird, black trees that seemed like they had a consciousness.
Their branches remained motionless, but I could detect a soul inside the creature which definitely meant that this was some sort of monster. Luckily, these things couldn’t move because their dark grey roots were buried deep in the rocky ground. Now I understood why Bahmt told me here to train with Othidas, these monsters were perfect because they wouldn’t be able to attack you unless you attacked first.
Bahmt may have given me a location, but I still needed a training method specifically to enhance the connection between me and the demon living in me. Maybe letting him control one side of my body and me controlling the other side? Let’s try it anyways since this is basically a matter of try and try again until you succeed.
I poked Othidas’ eye and it immediately shot open.
“What was that for!” Othidas said in a rage.
“Wake up, we’re training together now and I’m sure you’ll love the freedom I’m about to grant you,” I said mysteriously.
Up until this point, I had never fully allowed Othidas control of my demonized left arm and leg since that wasn’t part of the agreement, he could only watch as I accomplished his goal of human extinction. That’s why Othidas was overjoyed when I told him that he could experience the feeling of having a physical body again.
I could feel the left side of body turning numb as my nerves were disconnected from my muscles. They were replaced and connected to Othidas instead which made a visible change. With a flash, my left arm and leg starting glowing with a savage red aura and the black that used to cover it seemed to come alive. It was like it could freely extend itself and make unpredictable movements that defied the laws of physics. To make it easier to understand, I just thought of this black substance as Venom from the Marvel Universe back on Earth.

“Finally! I got somewhat of a physical body again now and damn does it feel amazing,” Othidas giggled like a little child that had opened a present.
“Since you seem like you’re in a good mood, let’s start practicing our synchronization during battle,” I said in a somewhat lecturing tone towards Othidas.
“Before that, I need to be able to see what’s happening from a better point of view…” Othidas demanded.
Suddenly, I felt the same numbing sensation in my left eye as Othidas took control of it. I guessed that the left side of my face was probably looking around the same as my arm and leg now, not that I cared about my appearance that much.
“Who said you could demonize my face as well you little rascal,” I said unsatisfied with the unexpected move on Othidas’ part.
“You should be glad I didn’t take over your whole body, since I now have regained enough of my previous power to do so,” Othidas spoke using my mouth even though he had to struggle a bit. Before, he had been using his power to project his voice into the air, but now he was directly speaking through a mouth which was easier and expended less energy—even if he had to struggle a bit to control the muscle.
“Whatever you say, let’s get on to practicing ok?” I pestered. The sooner I could synchronize our powers, the less chance of risking the loss of control of my whole body.
I tried walking forward towards one monsterized tree, but I felt a tug in the opposite direction and fell down immediately. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought it would be, who knew even walking could be this hard! It’s even more difficult than a three legged race! Now, I really feel hesitant about going forward with this plan. At any time, I could always just suppress Othidas with a rare treasure or through a special method but that would require some time. This harsh training might even take more time than if I went searching.
“Kid, if you want this to work we have to connect our minds somehow,” Othidas said frustratingly. “I had a subordinate once that had this problem but all he had to do was connect his mind with the other being first.”
“How are we going to do that?” I asked unconvinced.
“You need to trust me firs-”
“No way,” I declared. “If anyone’s gonna be doing the trusting, it’s gonna be you.”
“From the time I’ve been with you so far, you do seem trustworthy. But that could just be a facade,” Othidas mumbled secretly. “Fine, but if I find out that you use this chance to repel me completely, make sure you prepare to be cursed a thousand times!”

“Ok,” I said. “So what do we do?”
“It’s kind of like merging our two consicouness together, you have to relax and put down all of your mental barriers and let yourself be absorbed into the other person’s consciousness,” Othidas explained.
“Ok, what do I have to do?”
“Nothing, my consciousness will naturally be attracted towards yours since its no longer connected to my body by an anchor. It’s just floating about and since it’s not attached to anything it’ll naturally try to merge to form a more powerful and resilient consciousness,” Othidas lectured. “Tell me when you’re ready.”
“I’m ready to absorb your consciousness,” I said in a seemingly joking tone.
As Othidas started cutting off his connection to his consciousness, I could feel my left side of my body again but there was a new feeling deep inside me somewhere. It wasn’t exactly in my brain but it was mostly concentrated on that part. This merging of consciousnesses didn’t feel painful, it was just like receiving too much information at once or being force fed even though you were full. Control of my body was once again mine, but my brain and consciousness were altered; new emotions such as resentment and anticipation bubbled forth and a familiar voice appeared in my mind. His voice was just like that voice that speaks in your mind when you’re reading something in your head and not out loud.
[*** and 2 others have been unlocked due to being fully synchronized with Supreme Demon King Othidas.]
Othidas and his merged consciousness was like a second brain connected to the same body that understood everything I was thinking and in a battle, exactly the moves I’d perform and how I’d maneuver my body. Also, since the Supreme Demon King was full synchronized now, I received a significant power boost. That’s when I realized I had been arrogant since I had grown so strong, there were still many beings that were stronger than me in this world!

I finally unlocked the hidden items on my system which turned out to be two new more passive skills and one more active skill. boosted my ability to be persuasive even though it wasn’t the same as . It was more like your aura was more confident and powerful, which would garner the respect of others more easily without having to say anything. was probably that black substance that seemed like it was alive back when Othidas controlled my left arm and leg just like Venom from Marvel. This time though, the visible aspects weren’t as visible since Othidas was fully connected to me now and the demonization of my body parts were gone entirely. I had unlocked before and was the same thing Bugat used with his chaos energy to place those things on the four generals, not including me, to open the portals to the Demon Realm.
“So the benefits of this are: we are basically fully synchronized and since I know everything you’re thinking, the shaky trust we had for each other before is now firm and unshakable,” Othidas’s voice resounded in my head. “Also, since I understand your thoughts, I can naturally grasp how you fight and move so no more mobility problems anymore.”
“Hey, you didn’t tell me that we could read each other’s thoughts!” I complained. I could feel that Othidas was satisfied with the development and even more satisfied with my reaction—it seems like the reading of thoughts can go both ways.
“Stop complaining over this already, you can’t revert it anyways and since you were so eager before, let’s start practicing against those Dark Willows,” Othidas said ecstatically.
“Ok,” I replied, already indifferent to everything that happened.
This time, walking was one hundred times easier, I could feel Othidas’ understanding of my every move and control the left side of my body perfectly in sync. Like that, we finally arrived in front of a Dark Willow, which with Othidas’ help I found out was the name of this weird monster tree. Othidas knew the range of attack of the monster, so he positioned us right outside of that area in order to stay safe.
“Are you ready boy?” Othidas asked restlessly. “Don’t blame me if anything happens.”
“It’s on me since I allowed for this to happen, so I won’t go blaming others anytime soon,” I replied with sincerity.
“Let’s begin then.”
We rushed forward while summoning out the darkness sword containing evil looking purple flames since there weren’t any more downsides of using darkness energy anymore. It was time to use and to the fullest now since the feeling of wielding a weapon is pretty sweet!
