《Life of the dark god》Arc 4 Prologue The beginning of the end

After we safely reached the coast of the human continent, I tried to store our boat in my space inventory. It would have been nice if I would have succeeded, but it wasn’t possible. At least for the time being. I planned to improve that some other day. I didn’t want to leave any traces of our arrival behind, so we had to destroy the boat the others build.
“Thank you for bringing us here safely.”(Sandra)
She silently said, while we watched our boat burn down.
“Get going. We don’t have that much time.”(Me)
“One and a half day isn’t much time? If we’d go at full speed we wouldn’t even need half a day.”(Sandra)
“But then we’d be stressed out and I prefer to arrive with some spare time.”(Me)
“Fine. It’s your decision to make anyways. I’m only a retainer.”(Sandra)
After resting five more minutes, we departed to the location where the tournament would take place. I took the lead, so we wouldn’t get lost. We actually had a map of the human continent, but I didn’t need it, because I was able to recall almost every detail of the world map of my parents.
Sandra was right, if we’d go at full speed, we’d make it there in about half a day, but then we wouldn’t be able to visit smaller towns or even villages to gather information.
“Where are we going?”(Sandra)
“To a nearby town.”(Me)
“Why? You said we have not much time. Shouldn’t we already go to the tournament?”(Sandra)
“Well I said that but…”(Me)
Sandra interrupted me.
“Or is it because you want to gather information?”(Sandra)
“I…”(Me)
“Did you learn this during your times as adventurer?”(Sandra)
She took every single word out of my mouth. I couldn’t say anything, because she’d do so for me.

“Sigh. I give up.”(Me)
“Eh? What?”(Sandra)
“Nothing let’s enter that town.”(Me)
I said while pointing ahead. There was a relatively big town far away. Even I could only barely see it.
“Eh? Where do you see a town?”(Sandra)
I gave up on talking to her, because it was depressing me, so I just took the lead. After a few minutes, even Sandra was able to see it.
“There really was a town here. Big brother, you are awesome. Your eyes are really good.”(Sandra)
“Don’t waste time with praises. Let’s go inside.”(Me)
“You are somehow pretty cold these past days. Why?”(Sandra)
“I’m pretty nervous, you know?”(Me)
That was a made up lie. I didn’t even think about it twice. I had no idea too, but if I had to somehow describe it, I’d say I have always been like that.
“Don’t worry, I’m here with you.”(Sandra)
We headed to the gate. I went to the guard in order to pay the entrance fee.
“2 people, huh?”(Guard)
“Yes.”(Me)
“That would be 1 gold coin.”(Guard)
“1 gold coin? Why is it that high?”(Me)
Sandra saw that I was arguing with the guard.
“What’s the matter?”(Sandra)
“The entrance fee is decided by our mayor. The upcoming tournament is attracting many people and this town is popular amongst all the travellers. So it was decided to raise the fee.”(Guard)
I was able to accumulate a lot of money during my days as an adventurer, but I used up a lot already. I had to check if I even had enough money to enter that town.
“Sigh. Only left with 3 gold coins.”(Me)
“Just because you act poor, I won’t give you a discount. 1 gold coin or you can leave.”(Guard)

Unwillingly I paid the fee and we went inside.
“We probably have to go camping and have to sleep outside today.”(Me)
I said to myself. The town was filled with people. Similar to when the festival for Sepp took place in Sonya city, only with the size of a town.
“Where are we going now?”(Sandra)
“To the adventurer guild. Perhaps they take my student card.”(Me)
“Why do you not use your old adventurer card?”(Sandra)
I already saw through her acting.
“Why ask when you already know the answer?”(Me)
“No fun. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see the reaction of the people here, when they hear that a dead A class adventurer showed up?”(Sandra)
I wanted to forget about my past, so I overheard the last sentence and we entered the guild building.
“Good day. How may I help you?”(Receptionist)
“We are here for a quest. Is it possible with this?”(Me)
I said and showed him my school pass.
“What do we have here? An esteemed guest from Sonya academy. Well, it would certainly be possible. The problem is there is no available quest for you to take. I deeply apologize.”(Receptionist)
I quickly caught up on this opportunity.
“Ah, how unlucky. Don’t mind it, it’s not your fault. It’s just that I ran out of money and we don’t have enough to afford a place to stay for the night. I hoped to earn some money with quests, but now it seems like we’d have to sleep outside.”(Me)
My acting was a big success. They allowed us to sleep in a guestroom of the guild for this one night. The best thing was that it was free.
“If there is anything you need, don’t mind asking.”(Receptionist)
“There are indeed thinks, I’d like to know, but I’m awfully tired. Ah. Sandra, would you be so nice. You know what I want to know.”(Me)
I received an angry stare from her, but in the end, she willingly went with the receptionist and promised me to get as much out of him as possible. I had full trust in her abilities, so with my mind at ease, I was able to sleep for the first time in a long time.
When I woke up, it was already the next morning. I looked around and saw a soundless Sandra sitting next to my bed and waiting for me to wake up.
“Good morning. I hoped you slept well.”(Sandra)
“Did you…”(Me)
She interrupted me again.
“No I was finished after an hour and then I came back and went to sleep too. I only woke up a few minutes ago.”(Sandra)
“Sigh. What did…”(Me)
“It isn’t known to the public yet that you are heading to the tournament.”(Sandra)
An announcement of the nightmare appearing would scare away on watchers, so it didn’t surprise me at all.
“Anything else?”(Me)
“Most of the things he told me were boring. Only nobles or people with invitation will be able to watch the tournament from seats in the arena. Nevertheless, everyone is somehow trying to get there and get a glimpse at promising youths.”(Sandra)
After we thanked the receptionist, we left the town to head to the location of the tournament.
“Well, we somehow are part of that lot too. It will be interesting to see all the high authorities of 2 races gathered together.”(Me)
