《Life of the dark god》Chapter 15 A Rank

I used my remaining mana to form a barrier and it clashed against the [Chaos Breath]. I could feel the huge impact on the barrier. I focused all my mana and attention on one point because I couldn’t defend otherwise, leaving us with some light injuries and bruises. I held out for quite some time but the breath attack didn’t stop.
I felt that I would have no mana left soon. All of my normal and my black mana was focused solely to defend against that one attack. I had no time to think of something else. My heart beat quickened the more mana I lost. In contrast to my heartbeat I concentrated even more because I didn’t want us to die. I noticed that the attack lost a lot of power already but even if that would hit us, we had no defence and would probably die.
I was again in a life and death situation but this time I had a clear mind. I knew if we want to survive this I had to drain more mana from the black sphere and support my barrier. In the end I succeeded to drain a little bit and could hold out a few seconds longer but I was unable to defend against the attack completely.
I had no mana left. The barrier broke down. With my barrier down I wanted to at least save Kylie. In my last attempt to defend, I stood before her and wanted to take the attack head on. I closed my eyes and waited for it to hit me and for my end.
That end never came though. I could feel the black sphere getting lively and moving through the white space. I received a strong mental blow and it was able to leave my mind. It was defending me and absorbed the remaining of the [Chaos Breath]. When it finished it entered my white space again. When it entered again it was even bigger than before.

I lost all my power and fell to the ground. Before I lost my consciousness too, I could see that the barrier which kept us inside was gone. With that we defeated the end boss, the Dungeon Master of this Dungeon and could escape as long as we would wake up.
“Wake up!”(Kylie)
I was woken up in a rather uncomfortable way. She slapped me in the face a few times. At least she didn’t kick me out of rage.
“I am awake. I am awake.”(Me)
She slapped me one last time after my reply but I kept silent because that was probably her revenge on me for risking our lives.
“So what are you gonna do with that?”(Kylie)
She pointed at a crystal in the size of the fist of an adult.
“Is that what I think it is?”(Me)
“I checked it already. This is the Dungeon Core and a really big one at that. This Dungeon was at least A ranked. No I would even say it was S ranked.”(Kylie)
Now that the Dungeon Master was killed the Dungeon had no way of functioning anymore. It would crumble soon and return to the form of a normal cave. I picked up the Dungeon Core and stored it in my white space. Before we left Kylie picked up some bones from the ground.
“The mana won’t leave those bones for quite some time so let’s take them as our proof that we defeated the Bone Dragon.”(Kylie)
With the gains of an intact Dungeon Core, a really nice black sword and the bones from the Bone Dragon we left the Dungeon and headed for the city to finish the quest with our report.
When we arrived at the guild building we were escorted to a separated room to give the report. In the end it would be better to call it Kylie’s report because I didn’t really say anything. I showed them my card and Kylie told them what happened.

During our stay at the guild when I would show my card, I had to always be in [black form] because otherwise no one would believe anything we said or they would treat us like 2 children which lost their way. It was interesting to see how people would see you when you only change your looks.
I left the room earlier because I was bored and wanted to look for new quests. I didn’t find anything new so I waited for them. After a few minutes I could Kylie leaving the room with the tiger beastman we saw before.
“I have heard a lot about you. Darkness the adventurer who raised his rank from F to B in only a year of time. But now you even cleared an A or even an S ranked Dungeon on your own.”(Tiger beastman)
It was with Kylie though but I kept quiet as she had no guild card anyway.
“Your reward has 3 parts. First you will get 3 black Gold Coins for clearing the Dungeon and for the report.”(Tiger beastman)
I looked at him dumbfounded. 3 black Gold Coins was a huge amount of money. The yearly income of a normal A class adventurer was only 1 black Gold Coin.
“Second you will be promoted to A rank.”(Tiger beastman)
I have already guessed that much. But I was still curious what the 3rd reward would be.
“Last but not least, the Adventurer Guild Master as well as the King of the beast continent would like to talk to you. A rank Adventurer Darkness you and your companion are hereby officially invited to travel to the capital!”(Tiger beastman)
When he finished that last sentence he caused a huge commotion and a crowd started forming around us. All the surrounding Adventurers looked our way and waited for my reply. It was impossible to decline when we got officially invited so I had only 1 option to answer.
“I humbly accept the invitation and will go to the capital.”(Me)
The tiger beastman only awaited my obvious answer and smiled.
“Good. With your reward as well as this invitation here you will have no problems travelling to our capital. As an A rank Adventurer you have to be a good example for all lower ranked Adventurers so keep up your good work young man.”(Tiger beastman)
After our loud dialogue, he gave me the invitation and Kylie and I left the guild building. It was almost impossible to leave the guild because of the crowd that was standing outside. When we finally succeeded our struggle to leave the building we moved to an alley with no people and I dispelled my [black form].
“So now after a city and a Dungeon we go to the Capital?”(Kylie)
“It seems like it.”(Me)
After that day the word of Darkness the Adventurer who raised his rank from F to A in only 1 and a half year spread throughout the whole beastmen continent.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
