Chapter Six
As Neville slowly began to regain consciousness, he realized he was no longer in the wide open grasslands.
What greeted his sight was a simple thatched roof. Looking around he found out that he was inside a house.
He had been lying on a mat with a blanket draped over his body. Looking at his right arm, Neville found that it was wrapped in white cloth.
Clearly, someone had found him unconscious in the open wilderness and taking pity on him had brought him here. The person had even tended to his injury.
Neville was immensely grateful. Who knew what would have happened if he had continued to stay unconscious and lose blood in the middle of nowhere. He owed his life to the person who rescued him.
Just then the sound of a door opening was heard. Neville immediately turned his head.
“Ah, I see that you have awakened? How are you feeling?” said a sweet voice.
Neville was completely stunned.
An extremely beautiful woman had just come through the door. She had long black hair and bright purple eyes. Her face just looked so pure and gentle. She was truly a celestial beauty in Neville’s eyes.
The woman came and sat down before him. With a gorgeous smile, she asked again, “Are you feeling well?”
Neville could not find his voice to reply. Such a beautiful woman was so close to him. He had never experienced such a wonderful feeling before. But at the same time he was feeling incredibly shy and nervous.
I’m talking to a pretty girl! Eeeeeeeeeeeeek !
The beautiful woman wore a white blouse and a brown skirt. Such simple clothes yet they did nothing to diminish her beauty. In fact, it perfectly suited her slender and delicate body.
“Um, is there something on my face?” The beauty asked with a puzzled expression when she saw Neville just staring at her without saying a word.
Neville immediately snapped out of his trance. At once he lowered his head, feeling embarrassed and shy.
“Y-yes, I’m feeling much better now. Thank you so much for saving my life.” Neville said.
The beauty laughed. “It was no problem, sir. I was just passing by and happened to find you on the ground, badly injured. Surely I could not have just turned my back and left.”
“But it must have been quite a problem for you to carry me all the way here. I’m really sorry to have troubled you.”
“Hee hee, actually, sir it was no trouble. I may not look like it but I’m actually a swordswoman, though I’ve long tired. Carrying you was quite easy and if I may say so....” the beauty giggled, “...your body was quite light, sir.”

“Ha ha....ha ha...”
Neville simply laughed.
She’s teasing me! She’s teasing me! Ahh!
So what if he had the Rinnegan? It couldn’t help him against a beautiful girl’s teasing. It was useless. He was useless. Why the fuck was he so light-weighted anyway?
Ugh, it was the first time he met a girl in this new world and he had already shown a weak impression.
“I am Anna. What is your name, sir?” the beauty finally introduced herself and asked.
“Neville.”
“That’s a nice name.” Anna said. “If you don’t mind me asking Sir Neville, what exactly happened to you? When I found you the whole area was a mess. Were you caught up in some natural disaster?”
“Ahem.” Neville coughed. “Actually it was not a natural disaster but a battle between two opponents.”
“What? A battle?” Shock was evident in Anna’s eyes. “If what you say is true Sir Neville, then those two opponents must be extremely powerful individuals to result in such a destructive battle! Who were they? Did you see them?”
“Well,” Neville puffed out his chest proudly. He wanted to regain some face. “One of those individuals happens to be me.”
“Wha….!” The beauty cried out. “Sir Neville, are you speaking the truth?!”
“Yes!”
“You swear?!”
“I swear!”
Damn beauty just believe me already!
Anna let out a breath. “I believe you Sir Neville. It makes sense now, why you were lying unconscious with a wound. Your opponent must have managed to hurt you am I right?”
“Yes, fortunately I survived thanks to you.” Neville thanked her again.
Anna smiled. “I am honored to have helped a powerful man as yourself, Sir Neville. By the way, may I ask who your opponent was? He must have been quite powerful too, forcing you to your current state.”
“My opponent was a….giant black lion?” Neville said.
“Ah!” Anna gave a low shout. It was quite cute, Neville thought.
“Sir Neville, are you sure absolutely sure your opponent was a giant black lion?” Anna asked with fear and awe in her voice.
“Yes, I’m quite certain it was.” Neville replied. It looks that black lion was quite well known around here. “Do you know its name?”
“Everyone in the world knows its name!” Anna said. “The Black Calamity is one of the most fearsome beasts to have ever existed! It can slaughter entire armies of men by itself!”
Then she looked at Neville with awe. “Sir Neville, you actually managed to survive after encountering such a powerful beast! Your strength must be quite formidable indeed!”

“I was merely lucky.” Neville spoke humbly. However, his heart was anything but humble right now. His pride and arrogance had already reached the sky.
I wonder what this beauty would think if she knew I actually defeated this Black Calamity. Heh heh.
“As soon as I’m properly healed, I will no longer impose myself upon your house. And I will also not forget to repay you for your kind hospitality.” Neville said sincerely.
Anna waved her hand and smiled. “Like I said before it was no trouble helping you Sir Neville. Also, I’m quite happy and honored to host such a powerful man like you in my simple abode.”
“Oh ummm…” Anna hesitatingly spoke again. “It might seem a little rude of me to say this but I’m really curious about your eyes. I have never seen such unique eyes before in my life.”
Neville pondered for a bit. Should he tell her the truth about his Rinnegan or just make up some random nonsense?
In the end he decided to tell her the truth. After all he owed Anna his life. Of course, he would twist the facts a bit too because there was no way Anna would know about Naruto.
“My eyes are called the Rinnegan and I was born with them. They are the source of my powers.” Neville said.
“Oh, I see!” Anna said. “You have Magic Eyes!”
“Magic Eyes?” Neville was confused. What the heck were Magic Eyes?
“Huh? Surely you must know about Magic Eyes, Sir Neville? You have it yourself!” Anna looked at Neville strangely and spoke in a puzzled voice.
“Ahem.” Neville coughed. “Forgive me. I should have mentioned this from the beginning. I am not from around here. I came from a faraway land known as England.”
Anna opened her mouth wide. “So that was the case. No wonder you knew nothing about the Black Calamity either. You are a foreigner in this land.”
“Could you tell me more about these Magic Eyes, Anna?” Neville asked. He was quite curious about these Magic Eyes. Could they also be some sort of Kekkei Genkai?
“Of course.” Anna said. “There are various types of Magic Eyes all over the world. Some are possessed by only one person such as the Oceanic Eyes of Harold Bacchius while most of them are bloodline inheritances. Although there are many families with Magic Eyes, I would say the most powerful one would be the imperial family of the Truesight Empire, who are the wielders of the Stargazer Eyes.”
“I see.” Neville said. This new world he was in was indeed unfathomable. It seems he had to be a bit careful, especially concerning the matter of his eyes.
The next few hours were spent with Anna telling Neville everything about this world.
This world was known as the Magic Continent and it was divided into several territories. In the north were the lands of the Etherin Kingdom, the Astardos Empire and the Lux Principality. The south region was occupied by the Valir Empire and the Four Duchies Alliance. The west was the domain of the Truesight Empire along with the Umameth Kingdom. The lands in the east were the territories of the Sky Kingdom, the Trump Federation and the Despotate of Kaelim.
And lastly the central region were Neville was currently in was ruled by two nations, the Azure Kingdom and the Thiessa Kingdom. Neville was at the moment in the territory of the Azure Kingdom.
According to Anna, most of the people in the Magic Continent had the ability to use special powers. These powers ranged from boosting one’s physical abilities or using magic spells. Those who could use such powers mainly joined the military of their country or became independent adventurers.
“But how do you use these powers?” Neville asked Anna.
Anna replied, “With a special type of energy known as mana. Everyone has it, even if it’s just a little amount. Though I don’t know if the place you came from has it too, I’m quite certain that Sir Neville has it. Otherwise, it would be impossible for you to be so powerful.”
“Mana?” Neville thought. Could this mana be similar to chakra?
“Anna, you have mana too right?” Neville suddenly asked.
“Yes, of course! I told you before, I am a former swordswoman!” Anna spoke proudly. “Swordsmen use mana to raise their strength and speed just like berserkers and fighters. However, swordsmen can also infuse mana into their swords to use powerful sword techniques!”
Swordsmen, berserkers, fighters….looks like there were different types of warriors in this world. And Neville was pretty sure there were magic users like mages.
Just then he had a sudden idea.
He gazed at Anna who was chattering happily.
Then, he activated the power of his Rinnegan. He wanted to try and see the flow of energy inside Anna’s body.
Neville was immediately shocked.

8 222The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
