《Manablood Mellie》Chapter 12: Curses!

"Everyone below decks now!" Mellie screamed. Some complied. Most looked at her like she was sick, condemning them to a watery grave. She threw George in the captains quarters with a now wide awake Jackson, scrambling to dress and arm himself for whatever challenge was outside their door. "Stay here" Mellie yelled. "Everyone don't panic!"
Mellie cut her hand and gripped it around the ship's wheel as he thought "Flying Peter Pan ship flying peter pan ship" and pictured the ship from tinkerbell pirate fairy movie. She pushed "test of wills" into the ship, and struggled. Her hand began to become wooden and she screamed in pain.
"Mellie!" Jackson screamed as he crashed the door open into a pile of... pearls? The pearls touched Mellies' hand and her will finally pushed back.
"Jackson, the pearls!" He darted around the deck collecting them. "Quickly!" Mellie yelled, desperately. He rushed over, dumped the pearls onto her hand sliced open his palm put it on top of hers. She pushed and the ship creeked its way out of it's watery grave. The passengers screamed in fear of their lives as the ship began to rise. Mellie looked up at Jackson and laughed, elated that her plan worked but Jackson's face contorted and Mellie's world went black.
Jackson stood there in shock, gripping the wheel as he watched Mellie's head get smashed by a graze of a tenticle. She was dead. He failed her. Her body lay next to him, manablood matting the hair he was pulling just this morning. He couldn't even see her face anymore. The ship lurched upwards, finally out of reach of the Elder Kraken lvl 50 who was encroaching on the Sirens' territory.
Abigail Thundertone Siren lvl 15 was concerned. Her mother had just warned her about the state of music in theit Queendom. The Krakens must be aware of the problem already. The Queen may have downplayed the significance the threat was. The last magical melody scroll, scribed in her prime was starting to crack, and with these cracks their voices dulled. Without a song, what is a siren? Abigail was given 100 years to save the Queendom. The truth was, without a new magical epic, they would be forced to leave their territory in ten. Abigail knew something was wrong, but she didn't know how wrong.

Mellie's friends crowded around her body, unmoving unbreathing, cold and lifeless. She had saved them, gifted them a flying ship, fed them, clothed them and asked for nothing in return. Rhiannah lost all hope. Mellie was her only way out of this life. She felt selfish for thinking that but she did not want her savior to die.
Jackson was shaking. George handed him a hot tea from the pirate kitchen. "She sure put together some ship, didn't she?" Jackson smiled. "She sure tried her hardest for us." George handed him a second glass. Jackson looked at him with a furrowed brow. "Its rum. We found kegs of it in the storage area. Mellie knew how to keep us folk happy." He smiled.
Jackson drank it down, left the wheel with George and slunk back into the captains quarters. There were some new additions but her fancy little bed was still there mussed from their tryst. His chest squeezed and he fell to the floor. What was he going to do now?
The passengers were saddened at their saviors passing but they were distracted, looking overboard to the long drop down into the ocean. Some were laughing as they felt the wind whip against their faces. The ones who were frightened stayed below decks. They had to swap out 3 crewmates who were just too scared of heights to do their duties.
The ship was fast. They would probably be at the shores of Nort within a day. The passengers began to sift through the new contents that appeared on the ship, like spices with labels in a language no one but Mellie could read, hammocks and a random treasure chest the passengers deposited outside the captains quarters door, a little lighter than they found it. There was even a wind up clock and an alligator plushie mattress in all of the cabins. The kids loved it.

A brave little 13 year old girl covered her little brother and snuck out from her sleeping corner. She heard a rumor on the ship that Mellie was dead. She had to see. A week ago, after Jenny and her brother snuck out from their place her sleezy landlord caught them. He had been waiting down the street, ready to collect his daily "late fees". When she refused to pay him with her body he began to beat her. When Pete tried to step in, she handed over a gold coin to make him stop. And thats when the grossest smile crossed his face.
Jenny was groped and dragged by her hair to the thieves guild and turned over to their boss. Her brother was screaming and throwing weak fists at the man to no avail. The guildmaster refused to even see her and signed off on the enslavement papers. Her landlord smiled from ear to ear as he pocketed the money from the sale as well as the second gold piece he didnt tell the guildmaster about. If she hadn't told the woman where Mr George was, she would have never been saved.
Leaving the cargohold, she was a little scared, because she knew they were flying and she didnt want to fall Skill gained! Fear resistance lvl 1! As the screen flashed in her vision Jenny was elated. It had been a year since she had gained a skill not related to thieving. Even the good thieving skills didnt stick.
Slinking up the deck, she saw her savior sprawled out, nose caved in, unmoving unbreathing. She could be unconcious? Jenny checked to see if she was breathing. And she wasnt. Jenny cried and ran back to the cargo bay. "Is she okay?" Asked her little brother. "No Pete, shes very not okay. But we are, so go back to sleep." she responded coldly. Jenny wanted to live. She wanted to live well.
On the cold deck of the flying ship lay a woman with a bloody face. She rescued slaves, turned men into sandwiches and created magical ships with her will. She loved hard and fought tough. But dying was never part of Mellie's plan. Mellie was in a void staring at a black screen.
