《The Summon》Chapter 55 - Constitution

After a moment of silence, Jonathan began to speak: “First, to enact reforms is nothing one can do over night, even if one has an idea of how they shall look like. Also, I am certainly not qualified to really design those reforms. I can say, in very broad terms, what worked and what did not work, but some of those ideas are very circumstantial. So, the first question to answer would be what form the parliament will take, because there needs to be at least one. I personally would push for two, one for regions or nobles or something in that direction, to appease the old guard and one for the people. The thing is, the most important decision is the power each parliament has, as well as the amount of power that is left in your hands. The region or noble parliament should have some significant powers, but should never be able to blockade the governments ability to act, in my opinion. The people’s parliament should have some power over the purse, but the power of the military should stay, at least for now, in your hands, even though that power should be delegated down to capable generals. But let’s leave it at that. The second most important thing is how the vote for the people’s parliament is cast, as well as who is allowed to vote and other such rules.... “
Jonathan paused to pull out a small book out of a pocket and opened it at a page he obviously marked beforehand, after that he continued: “the vote should be cast in general, direct, free, equal and secret vote. At least that is the accepted way in my world. Mind you, at least in the beginning the parliament needs not to be to powerful, but if it shall not become a farce that might even be worse than no parliament at all, those statements should be true.“

The king thought for a moment and then he asked: “What is this for a book in your hand?”
Jonathan laughed and put the book away and answered: “This is the constitution of the country I live in. Mind you, not every law is written down here, but the most important laws are, and to change those laws is difficult. Not impossible, that would be the stupidest thing ever, but difficult, so that even a single majority is not enough to do it, I believe. It could guide us, but many things written down there assume things that are not true right now, and are only really possible after more than two centuries of rapid social development. Still, it might give us a few ideas how to proceed.”
“I understand. Is there a king in that book at all?”
“No, but there is a person that could easily be made into a powerless king, simply make the position hereditary, and add all the succession laws of the kingdom of Theron on top. But I do not believe that would be a good idea, at least for now. In a Century? Maybe.”

Nobody's Way
Foreign Thorn: Book 1 For eight centuries, the people of Isla have wanted for nothing. The Creator, Maere, uses Her power not only to keep them healthy and fed, but also to map the direction of each person's future Path - their vocation, role in society, and even the partner they'll spend their life with. In a world where infighting once threatened the very survival of humankind, the old texts say that Maere personally stepped in to help guide Her creations to harmony. All is not well among the people of the northern lands, however, as Jian discovers when she receives her own long-awaited Path. The Creator has chosen to favour some towns, but not others, leading to anarchy and unrest in the east, and fierce distrust between the neighbours who enjoy Her protection and those who don't. After many nights of disturbing premonitions, visions of a face uncannily familiar to her, and a voice beckoning her to "Homeland," Jian decides she needs to find answers for herself. She hires Madrigal, a surly young traveller hailing from an "unblessed" village, to take her to the southern lands. The swordsman is on the run from something, or someone, but Jian has no choice but to trust him. When the two leave the safety of the familiar and meet Quinn, a mysterious boy who seems to know more about Jian than she does about herself, it becomes clear that there are forces besides the old magics, forces completely unknown to the people of Isla, in play. Madrigal and Jian aren't sure if Quinn can be trusted, but they're certain he knows more than he's letting on...

Jack was reincarnated, again. This time, the omnipotent sphere had finally revealed to him that this new world was, in fact, the real one, and his soul had just returned to his body after two years of coma. During that span, the Earth or the magical world No.146, where he was The Grand Sage, was just a simulation experience. Jack inherited the System of Knowledge from his former self in the previous world. But gradually, he realized there were other Returners, holding other powerful Systems that they themself were also granted. The reason? The Omnipotent Sphere refused to give an answer. With the ever-burning desire to find his former friends and companions at World No.146 after their souls too were returned to this world, Jack began his journey. Ahead of him, five hundred years old as he technically was, there might be some surprises he still wasn’t prepared for. This is an original translated work. I’ve always wanted to challenge my writing skill and post on Royalroad a few times, but, as it turned out, I realized my own English capability still limited me. Therefore, I am currently working with a team of three, hence the name Triopals, consisting of me, the author, a translator, and an investor who really put his faith in this project. My translator and I will work together to deliver four chapters each week. Depending on the translating, editing, re-reading, checking, and re-reading-again process, the chapters will be uploaded each day or all at once. Careful as we may be, there can still be some errors at our best, so we welcome grammatical corrections, etc. We are very appreciative of your support.
8 156Midnight Origins: Arrival
On a lush planet known as Bhar, Verun is now the leading nation in the development of the rivaled schools of Magic and Science. Having brought forth an era of peace and prosperity for themselves through the development of Magitech, The High council was eager to spread their knowledge and beliefs to the furthest reaches of the continent, with the goal of ending senseless conflicts and prioritizing advancements in Magitech and improving the quality of life. This ambition, however, is not without opposition. Most followers side with one school or another, believing it is superior in nature. This conflict dates back to the very beginning of civilization itself, where it is believed by both sides that their gods descended from the heavens, bestowing upon them the knowledge that would bring the world into a new age. And though some took great interest in their differences, others would seek to convert each other through any means necessary. That being the case, The High council, leaders of Verun, had made the necessary preparations to handle threats and attempt diplomacy between the remaining opposers. Talented volunteers were hand chosen to be among the military, tasked with protecting the nation from both internal and external threats. And although non-biological creations have improved quality of life, they are not yet capable of replacing the military. The necessary research and development for such a thing was thought to be decades away, until Councilman Eranor encountered an anomaly in his facility…
