Wei Family Residence
“General, there’s a report.”
“What is it?”
Sitting on his chair as usual, Wei Shang was looking at the man before him with disinterest. There were so many things that occurred in the kingdom that he barely had any time to rest. He only wished that he would be able to take a break, even a little bit is fine.
“There’s a case of sudden fire in a small city not far from the capital. It destroyed the entire city.”
“If there’s fire, you can just put it out. There’s no need to report it here,” Wei Shang waved his hand as if it was nothing important.
The man was feeling nervous. The reason why he brought this report was because there was something unusual that they reported. However, he didn’t know how to report this to the man before him.
“General, it’s not ordinary fire.”
“Not ordinary?”
“Yeah… They say that the fire is started by a single individual…”
“One person?” Wei Shang’s eyes narrowed sharply. He knew that it was possible to cause a fire, but from the report that he received, the fire caused the entire place to be destroyed. It should be hard to do that.
Unless the one who did it was Eon Energy Master rank 4.
“Tell His Majesty, I’m going over there to check.”
“Yes, General!”
Wei Shang stood up and got out of his residence. He didn’t care for anything as he took a horse and paced it to the designated city. Looking at the smoke that still lingered in the sky, he used it as the guide for him to reach the specific city.
Bam!
Bang!
“I see, it’s you, Ye Xiao.”
“Guh, Wei Shang!”
Standing not far from him, Wei Shang could see the proud genius Ye Xiao. The man was wearing tattered clothes because he had just gotten into a fight not long ago. His blue green pupils were dilated at the sight of Wei Shang.

Ye Xiao knew that he was not a match against Wei Shang when he was in this battered condition.
“Do you really think that it’s possible for you to hide and gather your strength without us noticing?” Wei Shang’s tone was filled with mockery. He looked at Ye Xiao with contempt visible in his eyes.
“What do you want?” Ye Xiao asked as he tried to recover his breath. No matter what, he couldn’t let this man kill him.
Wei Shang looked at Ye Xiao with a glint in his eyes. “You should know what I want, Ye Xiao. I want your life!”
If only Ye Xiao was still stuck in rank 3, he would not pay any attention to this man. However, the Ye Xiao who stood before him was clearly already rank 4. This only meant that with time, he would be the one lagging behind. Ye Xiao would surely never let him off for destroying his life.
Bang!
Fire burst out of Ye Xiao’s palm, directed straight to Wei Shang. However, a wall made of earth quickly blocked it.
“You’re still very weak, Ye Xiao,” Wei Shang looked at the young man before him with contempt. If only this man didn’t exist… Ye Ai Xia would never reject him. What did she see in this man to make her fully trust him?
He hated this man very much.
“Hmph, you come at the wrong timing,” Ye Xiao grunted. He gathered more Eon Energy as he blasted his surroundings with Eon Energy filled with fire. It didn’t take long for the entire forest to be filled with fire.
“Do you really think that you can stop me like this?”
Bang! Bam!
The force between two completely different elements filled the area. At the same time, Ye Xiao kept on retreating. He knew that it was not an advantageous place for him to stay because Wei Shang could practically control the earth.

He had to find a rocky place because it would be harder for Wei Shang to make use of his capabilities.
*pant* *pant*
With his Eon Energy already depleted, Ye Xiao ran away. He stopped when he saw the swamp before him. It was dark and murky. His heart dropped for he realized that this was already the border with Cao Kingdom.
Because he was located slightly at the north, this place was known to be a death trap. It was because the swamp in this area was known to be bottomless and anyone who entered would never be able to get out again.
‘I have to…’
Before he could turn again, Ye Xiao sensed tremendous pressure coming at him. Gritting his teeth, he looked to the side, where the king was riding on top of a large water ball below him. There was nothing visible that maintained the ball in that shape, but Ye Xiao knew that this man was controlling his Eon Energy.
“Wei Shang, didn’t you tell me that he’s still rank 3?”
“It seems that he made a breakthrough when we weren’t paying any attention.” Wei Shang’s tone was flat. “Let’s finish this, Your Majesty.”
“Sure.”
With a wave of his hand, large wave of water came flooding. Ye Xiao’s face turned sour as he dashed into the swamp. Right now, he couldn’t think of anything but finding a way to survive.
Splash! Splash! Splash!
Water swept over everything. The king could sense that there was no one that was within his water anymore. Ye Xiao must have fallen into the bottomless depths inside this swamp.
“Good job tiring him out.”
“It’s not a big deal, Your Majesty,” Wei Shang’s attention landed on a small flower necklace on the ground. It was a necklace that he was familiar with. When they were still in school, Ye Ai Xia gave that necklace to Ye Xiao.
“Let’s return.”
As the king returned back nonchalantly, Wei Shang picked up the necklace on the ground. Afterwards, he silently followed after the king.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
