《Path of the Lilies》9. I Have to Stay Low

Ye Jiao’s eyes fluttered open. She could sense the light around her seemed to be getting sucked away. Upon opening her eyes, she could see her father was standing near the large machine with light circulating around him. His majestic sight looked exceptionally beautiful.
It lasted for a few seconds before the light returned back to normal. However, Ye Jiao noticed that the number of ball light in this place have decreased by a significant amount. In addition, there seemed to be some dent on the machine not far from her father.
“Daddy.”
“Ah, Jiao’er,” Ye Xiao completely forgot that his daughter was also training there. He quickly ran on the water to her side. “Are you alright?”
Upon breaking through, he would release some shockwave that might destroy things around him. As he was standing near the machine, it bore the brunt of some damage while the rest was directed to the wall around him.
Seeing that Ye Jiao was fine, he felt exceptionally glad.
“Dad looks so cool!” Ye Jiao immediately praised her father with sparkling eyes. Her view of her father changed considerably because of what she saw just now.
“Of course, your dad is the best!”
“Yes, Daddy is the best.”
Ye Xiao laughed as he ruffled the girl’s hair. “Let me check your progress.”
“Ah, you can do that, Dad?”
He inspected Ye Jiao’s body as his daughter looked back curiously. The trace of Eon Energy in Ye Jiao’s body was very visible, but they were scattered around in her body without any clear direction. Their movement to the abdomen was exceptionally slow, but there was no trace of them leaving her body at all.
‘Her body is really suitable for containing Eon Energy, maybe that’s why the stone couldn’t detect her talent.’

The stone determined the amount of Eon Energy that was transferred back to the stone after they sent a sliver to circle the child’s body. The lesser the energy that was returned meant that the child’s talent was better because they could absorb the Eon Energy.
But in Ye Jiao’s case, her body contained them all. The stone couldn’t give any reaction for what it didn’t receive.
‘But even me back then still has a bit leaking out. Is there any greater talent after purple?’
“Jiao’er, you should direct Eon Energy in your body to your abdomen to form your core,” Ye Xiao said to his daughter tenderly.
Ye Jiao’s eyes widened. “You never told me that before, Dad.”
Ye Xiao smiled wryly. It seemed that he forgot to tell that to her because he didn’t expect her to have so much of them inside her body. They were accumulated, and it would take some time before they could reach her abdomen. Thankfully, her body was able to contain them all.
“Oh right, do you feel uncomfortable?”
“Not at all,” Ye Jiao tilted her head. If anything, her body felt comfortable with her absorbing so many light-uh Eon Energy. It was only now that she realized that the light she had seen every day must be the Eon Energy that her father meant.
Ye Xiao’s mouth twitched. The greater the talent, the more Eon Energy they could contain in their body. Even though the number would naturally increase as they developed their core, it should only be focused on the core and not body. A case like Ye Jiao seemed to be special.
“You can continue to absorb the Eon Energy in this room. After you feel that that is enough, just tell me.”
“Ok, Dad.”

Ye Jiao sat down and started to absorb the Eon Energy again. On the other hand, Ye Xiao attempted to absorb when he came near Ye Jiao, but stopped them before they entered his body. This action allowed a lot of Eon Energy to gather around Ye Jiao’s body.
‘This should be enough.’
After he had finished with the arrangement, Ye Xiao walked to the door and opened it. In front of the door, the Principal was standing with a wide smile. Ye Xiao knew that the principal must have sensed it when he broke through because of the Eon Energy’s violent reaction.
“Principal,” Ye Xiao called.
The Principal smiled. “Xiao’er, congratulation!”
Ye Xiao smiled back warmly. “Many thanks to you, Principal. Without you, I would have never been able to break through to rank 4.”
“What are you saying, it’s all your hard work,” The Principal was happy. Even though he could guess that the condition of the room would be bad because of the shockwave, they were not important. “Rank 4 is the start of specialization. It’ll be good if you can attend a sect or academy to learn them.”
Ye Xiao smiled. “I’ll think about that, Principal.”
“That’s good, Xiao’er.”
“Principal, can you hide the news of my breakthrough for the time being? I don’t want them to know that I have reached rank 4,” Ye Xiao asked.
“There’s no need to worry. I’ll never tell them,” the Principal harrumphed. He cared for Ye Xiao just like his own son, so he would never do anything that could possibly harm Ye Xiao.
“Many thanks, Principal.”
“Good. Do you still want to use the room?” the Principal pointed to the room behind Ye Xiao.
Ye Xiao nodded. “Yes, I’ll return the key after I have finished. Thank you very much, Principal.”
“It’s fine, I only helped a bit,” The Principal traded a few more words with Ye Xiao before he watched the young man entered the room again. Internally, he was glad that Ye Xiao had finally broken through. As long as Ye Xiao worked hard, it would be possible to reclaim the genius title he once had.
The Principal gazed at the sky. He wished that he would still be alive to see this genius return to his peak and reclaimed back his position that he once lost.
But not now.
He had to stay low before he could become strong enough because there were a lot of people who wanted him to die.

Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
