《Path of the Lilies》4. Start of the Training

“After you reach the age of 6, you can start absorbing the Eon Energy in your surroundings,” Ye Xiao started his teaching. “First, you have to sense the energy in your surroundings and pull them bit by bit into your body. This process takes time as you can’t master them at once.”
“How do I know that it’s Eon Energy?” Ye Jiao was confused.
Ye Xiao scratched his cheek. “Um, you will know? It feels warm and comfortable. It always exists around you, so you should be able to sense them after a while.”
Ye Jiao looked back at her father blankly. Honestly, she didn’t have any idea what her father was teaching her. There was nothing around her that she could sense or see. All that existed was only air that she breathes in every single minute plus other natures.
Looking around her, Ye Jiao knitted her brows. She wondered what her father was talking about earlier.
Ye Xiao scratched his head. He was not a good teacher. Other children might have already asked him numerous questions, but Ye Jiao chose to ponder the matter by herself. It was good to be independent, but asking question should be done if she didn’t understand.
Well, even if she did, he might not be able to answer them.
He looked around him as he continued walking with Ye Jiao beside him. When he first learned it, he could feel the surroundings easily because his talent was one of the best in this world. Just by relying on his keen sense and more talented body, he could train with ease. Trying to explain what he felt with words were clearly not his forte.
“We’ve arrived at home,” Ye Xiao called when they approached a small hut.
It was a small house around three meters square made of woods. There was only one door and one window visible from outside. Even though the condition of the house could only be associated with the word ‘terrible,’ it was their house where they have been living for years.

“Is it my turn to cook?” Ye Jiao pointed to herself. After she learned how to talk, she also learned how to cook with her father to lessen his burden.
“There’s no need,” Ye Xiao shook his head. “You can spend the time to try sensing Eon Energy in your surroundings. I’ll cook today.”
“Okay, Daddy.”
Ye Jiao sat down on the grass as her father walked into the small house. Her eyes wandered around, trying to see what her father mentioned to her just now. It made no sense for her that they could sense something that they couldn’t see. After all, everything she knew so far was those that she could see.
Stretching her hand, Ye Jiao tried to focus everything on her skin, but there was nothing around her.
Focusing her attention to her surroundings didn’t help either as she could not see their difference.
‘Ugh, I don’t understand!’
Flop!
Lying on the grass, Ye Jiao stared at the sky. It was cloudy that day, making the sky look white rather than blue. Relaxing on the grass, Ye Jiao enjoyed the scenery. Asking a six years old little girl to keep her focus for hours was clearly impossible.
After satisfying herself, Ye Jiao closed her eyes and tried to feel everything around her. She could sense the wind breeze and the faint warmth from the sun. As she tried to sense them, Ye Jiao had the feeling that there were numerous lights around her body, circling around.
‘It’s warm.’
The light felt so warm and comfortable. Slowly, Ye Jiao tried to control them. Extending her mind to reach these lights around her, she tried to move them according to her will. The light moved a bit then stopped.
‘Move.’
Bit by bit, the light moved closer. The moment they touched Ye Jiao’s skin, she could feel the warmth coming to her. It was so comfortable. The warmth spread to her entire body with most of them lingering in her abdomen.

Feeling exhilarated, Ye Jiao started to attempt it again and again. Every single dot required a long time for her to move, but once they entered her body, the warmth was extremely comfortable that she wanted more and more. The sensation couldn’t be compared with anything else she had before.
“Jiao’er!” Ye Xiao called the girl.
“Dad?” Ye Jiao rubbed her eyes. It was so comfortable that she felt sleepy.
Ye Xiao smiled when he saw his little daughter. He didn’t really expect her to succeed in her training, but having her sleep outside was clearly not an option. “You little brat, why are you sleeping outside?”
“Ah?” Ye Jiao was stunned. She glanced at the sky and realized that it was already night time. When they returned back from the test, it was still afternoon. Did she really spend that long lying on the grass?
The time she took to pull those warm light around didn’t feel that long. At most, they should only be one hour.
Seeing Ye Jiao scratching her head with confusion, Ye Xiao shook his head lightly. “Don’t sleep outside when it’s night. The chilly wind will make you sick.”
“Yes, Dad.”
Ye Jiao stood up and dusted her body. She felt that something was clearly different from herself as she still could feel the warm sensation from before. However, there was nothing visible in her body that could let her have any clue.
“Dinner is ready. Let’s go eat.”
“What’s for dinner today, Dad?” Ye Jiao’s eyes shone when she heard the word ‘dinner.’
Ye Xiao pointed to the table. “There are soup and some rice.”
Running slightly to the table, Ye Jiao climbed the chair and positioned herself near the table. Even though she was already 6 years old, her body was still rather small as they barely had enough for their meal every day. The soup was mostly filled with water, but they tasted the best for Ye Jiao.
Scooping some of them for her and her father, Ye Jiao grinned. “Daddy should eat more because you use Eon Energy.”
Ye Xiao was stunned. He barely used his Eon Energy. Besides, forming a small ball like what he did in front of Ye Jiao could be done with using less than 0,1% of his overall energy. No, even using 0.01% was still too much. It didn’t expend his energy at all.
However, seeing the bright smile on his daughter’s face, Ye Xiao just accepted it. “Alright, but you should eat more too. I cooked a lot for you, little lass.”
“Yes, Daddy!”
With that, the two of them proceeded to have a noisy dinner.
