《A Sword Master's Travels (1)》Chapter 4 - A Short Stay

This gel stuff tastes delicious. Its like water, but tastes like fine wine. *Gulp*

Its been four days since I've decided to stay here and things are going pretty well. The issue of the humans being discriminated against lingers in the back of my thoughts but I'll eventually solve that problem. This discrimination has been going on for thousands of years, they can hold on for maybe a few months more.

In my free time, pretty much all of the time, I've been running around and hunting in the surrounding forest. The soldiers here were skeptical of me staying here at first, until I began bringing back what looked like four eyed boar. I observed their sparring sessions when not hunting, attempting to integrate the way they fight in my swordplay. They move fluidly and can attack from any direction at any time.

When time for night came I trained and cultivated my body. My strength is becoming frightening and it didn't seem like it would stop any time soon. I was exaggerating when I said my old body would be like iron and this new one would be like dragon scales, but it seems to be coming true.

I made another discovery about my sword soul, it seems that I can make a manifestation of it out of my soul energy. The soul sword, as I named it, is extremely sharp and durable. It comes out as a crystalline sword with all the colors of the rainbow flashing through it. It is made from solidified soul energy. How cool!

I believe I am the only one of my kind, a human that has become one with the sword. Now the only thing that remains for me is living a new and better life. I've always loved traveling, seeing new things and new experiences. I never had time in my old life because I was being tracked down by enemies or cultivating so I wouldn't be crushed. Traveling and swordsmanship, sounds like a good plan.

*Gulp* I still can't believe this gel stuff is so common, the lucky bastards. I remember that one time I had to drink the urine of a dragon for over a month to survive.

Peery has left me alone, not intruding into information I obviously don't want to give. What a nice guy; I'm glad I saved him. Oh, here he comes now.

"Fang! I hope you've enjoyed your stay here." Peery says, sliding up.

"I have, actually, what brings you to talk to me? Unless you just want to talk." I respond.

"Going straight to the important stuff, I like that. Well you're right, I'm here to talk about formally introducing you to the camp. Some of the more biased soldiers have not been happy about you being here."

Oh, this should be a little fun. "Sure, lets do it."

Peery seems happy with my acceptance and calls me along to announce it to the soldiers.

"Men! You've all seen Fang here bringing in meat and laying around. What some of you don't know is that he's a skilled warrior! He saved my life and some of your comrade's lives. If there are any disagreements, I am more than willing to thrash someone."

A murmur of discontent rises through the small crowd of soldiers, although some of them are staying quiet. They're probably some of the ones that I saved.

"Captain, he's just a human! Are you sure you didn't mean he's a skilled carpenter or something? I'm sure he didn't actually fight at all!" One of the more brave objectors calls out. The rest of the crowd chatters in agreement.

As Peery is about to respond, I raise my hand to stop him. My invisible soul energy pierces out and clears a space around the one who mocked me before ferociously cutting a deep trench around him. Now he's on a pillar of dirt surrounded by a four meter wide trench and around four meters deep. He jiggles in place in fear and there were no more complaints.

Later that day, I was lazing around once again when suddenly, there were cries of alarm.

"Enemy attack! Six hundred Dreeds have been spotted, rapidly approaching from the north!"

I stand up from my chair and leisurely walk to the top of the palisade, Peery shows up beside me. I can't leave the people who have been so nice to me hanging, now can I?

There is a distinct clanking noise in the distance, growing louder as they approached.

"Damn! We only have around thirty soldiers here, could they be trying to start another war?!" Peery says. A force of four hundred would easily overwhelm a small outpost of thirty. "We have to let the other forces know! Jeedy, you go and warn them!"

I raise my hand to stop Peery and Jeedy. What lucky bastards. I've been looking to field test my new powers anyway.

"No need Peery, none the Dreedys will make it out of this alive. Take this as a lesson that humans are not to be underestimated." I leap fifty meters from the wall into the forest, leaving a confused and surprised Peery behind.

All of the soldiers observe me as I stand in front of the palisade.

"Is he stupid?" "Guess he got tired of life." "Wait, how'd he get there?"

A gentle breeze blew through the forest. Silence reigned as we waited. Around a minute later, they arrived.

A large mass of Dreedy slimes slid past the trees, seeming like ghosts except for the clanking of their armor. They halted as they drew near the walls and me.

One with more armor than the rest slid foward and addressed us. "Surrender and you will be taken as slaves! If you do not, then you will be slaughtered! Our majesty-" Tch. No time for bullshit talk. I've been wanting to see what my new soul energy could do.

Before the officer can continue, I unleash a massive storm of sword energy at them. My soul energy had swept through the area in the blink of an eye, and over five hundred meters in front of me disappeared being cut into pieces. The only thing that remained was grass and piles of dust. We all stare in shock. All six hundred soldiers were annihilated in the blink of an eye.

"Damn." I break the silence. All of the soldiers are quiet as I leap over the palisade and back into the camp. I'm a little scary now, aren't I? "Now all of you won't be telling anyone about this, will you?" I call out in a threatening tone.

Peery stares in shock at the disintegration of the enemy force before sliding away back to his lodge.

"Monster..."

The garrison stays away from me for the rest of the day. I decide to leave the next morning, traveling awaits me! The royal capital should be directly south if I remember correctly.
