《Aliens.exe》Chapter 54 - Nursed Back to Health

“Jakey, wake up,” said a soothing voice next to him. His throbbing forehead was dabbed with a towel, and the voice spoke again, softly.
“Are you ok?”
Jake opened his eyes expecting to see a nurse standing next to his bed. What he actually saw was Leina, curled up next to him wearing what could only be described as a tasteless and skimpy nurses uniform that she had clearly bought for a hen do. Jake was horrified, but his efforts to move away only succeeded in sending ripples of pain down his legs.
The only reply he could manage was a tentative nod, along with a guttural “hmmmerflaarrgghh!”
“You know how you said in your interview that you liked girls better when they were crying?”
Jake nodded, fearfully.
“Well I like men better when they’re in pain.”
Jake let out an involuntary high pitched squeal, and then a sigh of relief at a loud knock at the door.
“Come in!” he shouted, actually glad to see someone for a change.
A girl that he vaguely recognised from the room he avoided in his quarters walked in.
“You need to leave,” she hissed at Leina. “I am in charge of looking after Jake.”
Leina gave her what could only be described as a look which could have sharpened daggers, before smiling back at Jake.
“You get better darling, I’ll see you soon at work.”
Jake watched her leave, and quickly spoke to his saviour who criss-crossed her hand over her chest.
“Thank you so much, I owe you one.” Jake hadn’t understood the vitriol with which his new companion had spoken to Leina. His experience with women was, well, limited and he didn’t really appreciated how attractive a war hero was to the women of Crawk.

“That’s ok, any time. I’ll hold you to that,” she beamed. “I’m Jaska, by the way.”
“Hi Jaska. So are you my nurse?”
“Yes?” Jaska answered, unconvincingly. She had just seen Jake’s nurse in the corridor and knocked her out cold, so in essence she was now.
“So what’s wrong? Have I broken it?” he asked pointing to his leg.
“No, you’ll be ok after a while,” she smiled. “But you need plenty of rest. I’ve set something up for you to do whilst you’re recovering – I think you’ll like it.”
Before Jake could argue he had been slung over Jaska’s shoulder and carried down the corridor.

What would an anime be like from the perspective of a background character? From birth, Reikawa Yuuya has had the ability to see the character arcs of the people around him, a skill passed down through his family. Combined with his extremely low presence, Yuuya is in the perfect position to be an observer in countless stories. The thing is, though, the humans in this city aren’t people. Not to him.And he’s afraid of what they can become.(Disclaimer: This is a psychological drama. Yuuya starts the story off with severe psychological and emotional trauma that only decays as the story proceeds. If you're looking for a witty meta story with a cool power-fantasy MC, this isn't it.)Also on Wordpress at zerovisible.wordpress.com

8 88The Boy in the Tunnel
Fall semester. 1997. At a strange Southern college, freshman Tim's eerily prescient Student Handbook tells him he's going to fall in love with 6'6" sophomore Joanie. But Joanie has more important things to deal with than a weird crush - like a creepy English professor, a hallucinogenic drug that's chipping away at her sanity, and a war between rival secret societies that could destroy the University before Tim and Joanie find out if their love is real, or just fiction.Recommended if you like: impossible architecture, books that can tell the future, made-up games with overcomplicated rules, portentous graffiti, secret codes, first love, intense hallucinations, 80s and 90s pop culture, a world that's just a couple degrees off from reality, and a coming-of-age story set in a manufactured community that lets you try on different possible futures - aka college.New chapters of The Boy in the Tunnel post every Friday.

8 319Same Crap, Different World
A young man from early 21st century wakes up in a different world. This world is like a typical setting of an fantasy isekai novel. But it is also not. There is magic, alchemy, magical creatures, different non-human races, peasants and nobles, demons and dragons. But there is also politics, persecution, supremacism of every kind, entitlement, slavery and other unpleasant human tendencies. In short, this new world does not differ much from his old one. However, besides him, there may be others who have made such a strange trip, and awakened into this new world. There certainly have been others, in the past. But more than people and other living things, there have been items. All sorts of items, which are regarded as otherworldly artifacts with unknown danger and power. And he himself is an artifact as well, albeit a living one. Therefore he has use for the powers that be. He is also given a role and expectations to fulfill, to hide his real value. And in all that he still has to make sense of what has happened, what is happening, and find a way back, if possible. Author's note: I write this project mostly in (except chapter 1) in 60-100 page (40,000-70,000 word) chapters, edit them as such and later cut them down for publishing into 7-11 page segments (depending on natural breaks in the flow). Therefore, each chapter may be divided into 10-15 subchapters.
