《Aliens.exe》Chapter 17 - Dog Gone

“Officer Howler in distress Captain! Ship damaged Sir! Over. Ruff.”
Captain Cormitz opened communications, this was the part of his job he liked the least.
“What's the damage Officer? Over.” he asked.
“I'm not sure, Sir. DogBot is too scared to investigate. Over. Ruff.”
“Oh, that's not good...” Captain Cormitz thought to himself. Each ship had a DogBot attached which ran to investigate electronic faults and retrieve information. Occasionally it fixed things, but it was more likely to drool over it and hope that solved the problem.
“We were definitely shot though,” Officer Howler continued. “Bloody HEDGEHOG people distracting me on the radio. Over. Ruff.”
“Ah. I'm sorry,” said Captain Cormitz. “Is there anything we can do for you? Would you like me to tell you a joke, or sing a song or something?”
“No Sir, it's alright thanks. The ground's quite big now, I don't think there's time for that. Over. Ruff.”
“Professional 'til the end,” thought Captain Cormitz. He was especially disappointed with this one. Officer Howler was one of the most talented pilots he'd ever seen and he was sure that he would have been a huge asset during this war. If he'd just attended more Flying Under Considerable Distraction classes, he probably wouldn't have been.
“I see. Well I commend you for your service to the Rearguard Beagles and your help in saving the...”
Before he could finish, there was a huge bang and the line went dead.

8 279The White Room
A group of gamers are hired as guinea pigs to test a new VR system. None of them know what exactly to expect. Is the new system bing tested, or is it them? Are they just there for games, or is there a greater game being played? My first attempt at writing LitRPG. I I'm learning as I go and therefore will probably stumble over numerous cliches of the genre and writing in general. Definitely a work in progress.
8 92The Tears of Kas̆dael
It was just supposed to be a game. A really, really great game, yes - but a game. Instead, Jasper got his heart ripped out by a brooding goddess and awoke to find himself in another world. No weapons, no skills. Naked. Trapped in a world full of ancient horrors, where gods and monsters still roam the earth, Jasper is forced to adapt quickly or die - and he's not ready to die. Good thing he's a mage. This is a high-fantasy novel with light LitRPG elements. It's not super-crunchy, but the system is an important part of the story. There is some light cursing and gore, but this is not a Grimdark novel. There will also be no harem. The current schedule is chapters on M-W-F of around 2000-2500 words, as well as occasional bonus chapters that provide background or insights into side characters. This is my first real attempt at writing a full novel, but the story is based on a world that I've been creating and re-creating since I was a child. I have an extensive "history" and religion, and even a semi-cohesive language system worked out, which will hopefully slowly shine through as the story progresses. I want to avoid having too many info-dumps, so I may from time to time post a bonus lore chapter that will explain some of the background for any who are interested.
8 195Order of the Chronicle
There is a guild called Chronicle in the MMO Endless Story Saga, a guild that is solely made up from students in one college. A guild comprised of above average students and expert players of E.S.S., a guild that focused soley and discovering and keeping the deep secrets of the game. But something mysterious pulls them away from the safe lives of study and gaming.

What seperates beasts from men isn't the language we speak or any such drivel taught to us in school. It isn't the way we walk or our intelligence that sets us apart. Some would have you believe that it is our ability to think and reason that makes us fundamentally different from the creatures that inhabit the world. That way of thinking, my friends, is entirely wrong. What seperates us from them and them from each other, is simply the skin that we all wear
