《Subjugation of Gods》Metamorphosis to a Sage

In the void, existed an unknown ancient golden world. A boy was floating in empty space, above he looked was a starry sky, the likes of which he had never seen in life. Maybe this is not the current universe. An ancient aura pervaded the entirety of this space, but it looked limited despite of it's nearly cosmic scale.
Passing each test, strengthened the will of Krishna monstrously. By now he had figured out, that none of these tests required any talent whatsoever, nor any inherited attributes or learning. What they really tested were 5 key attributes: willpower, determination, righteousness, dedication, urge to seek and achieve liberation. Blessed with no innate talent since birth, he had spent his early years enjoying in the village, until he came to know of his true parents. After which he went to the Imperial City only to be sent to study and gain experience of the martial and political world, so that he can succeed as a deserving king. Since childhood, he hadn't even once faced any difficulties, in whatever situation he got entangled in, his big brother and foster parents took care of that. Now, he started facing difficulties that would boggle the minds of even the most talented princes of his generation.
It took him hundreds of years to pass each test. The young boy of 12 was already hundreds of years old, and walked the road between life and death innumerable times now. Surprisingly, with each test, his comprehension of the world around him increased. He understood, this was a training place created for the Sages. This emulated the real world well since it had almost the same laws, but was actually virtual. However, if he died here in actuality, the law of life and death would act upon his consciousness and would result in death in the real world as well. This model world contained the experiences of sages of numerous generations. Each Sage when attained an enlightenment here, pinned their experience by spiritual sense, not only making their name on the illustrious order, but also providing instruction and guidance to their successors. Around him wandered like open consciousnesses various types of experiences. With each enlightenment, some experiences flew towards him at an insane pace entering the area between his eyebrows. With each influx, he lived the lives of all those honoured people. He may around 900 years old now, but his experience and wisdom could now match with that of an exalted ancient being. The Third test taught him about responsibility and the importance of duties done from not just mental or physical means but though the soul. At the Fifth test he unlocked his past lives and relived through them within his consciousness like watching a motion picture comprehending his learnings and mistakes. The Sixth Test gave him a lesson on the most subtle aspects of nature upon human being Karma, Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. Each test, seemed not like a test, but instead like an eye-opener, an opportunity a gateway to multitude of truths and lies, and mysteries surpassing both truth and lie. If there was really a failure in the test, it wasn't even lack of understanding, but lack of 5 key attributes, these attributes were pushed to their limits with each test.

One thing that still bothered him was that he didn't feel that his body here was virtual. It seemed that he was pulled into a virtual reality and subject by it's laws. The beginning steps of a Sage is to understand these laws, become one with them, and learn to influence and control them. If he at any point, becomes slave to these laws, he would have no right to call himself a seeker. No books were needed, no cultivation techniques, no master, this was a personal journey and seeking can never be forced nor can be collective. Unless there is will, and one's own self in fusion with it, all the practice and work done is just an illusion.
With each successive enlightenment, the glow around him turned brighter, and now after accomplishing six tests, there was a silver essence around him. Now, having lived for 2000 of years, he had begun walking the path of overturning the heavens themselves. Practicing and breaking through consecutive tests without any break takes toll not only on body and mind, but on life essence which is weakening every moment. Was it not that he had fused his mind, soul and body with the oath of Absolute Brahmacharya, he would have been dead by body now, and end up entering the river of reincarnation to begin his life anew. This was also an another reason why one of the steps of sage was Blood transformation, so that they can sustain their bodies, for the field of action gets limited in only soul form. That limited field of action is curtailed even more by the cosmic laws. So, the body and it's individuality is highly important. But a Sage must never forget that body is just a raiment, a tool for their goal. If they start identifying with the body, all the relentless meditation undergone would become vain and one's growth would come on a standstill, probably even fall horribly.

To fulfill his seventh test, he was pulled into a desolate desert realm within the confines of the virtual universe. Here, could be seen the same Jade Tablet, that had entered his mind when he stepped into the void by teleportation a millennia ago. He could see the Tablet in the distance some thousands of kilometers ahead. But instead he sat down in lotus pose and began pondering over the Tablet. "Since, it's the same tablet, there is something about this that makes me feel it isn't an illusion like the rest of the universe here. Is that stone block, real or not?" Observing his puzzlement, a bitter laugh came as a response from his mouth. Even when he was able to comprehend the world to such a level, the debate between reality and unreality was still confounding for him. He sighed, "Alas, I am not a True Sage yet so as to be able to know the existence in it's entirety."
Folding his arms, he pointed his palm in the Jade's direction, and soft silvery ripples circumambulated through it, generating a noiseless spherically symmetrical vortex. In just an instant, he entered and exited it to reach just ten steps away from the Tablet. All this took just a click of finger to happen. The Jade Tablet didn't emit the vibes of being as holy as sacred as before. "Is there a greater demon above the Sages? Didn't that old master speak of a Demon Sovereign, I wonder maybe she is the one who made this Jade Tablet." A green energy arrow shot from his sleeves towards the tablet, it was repelled and a terrible force attacked him in retaliation. Coming to his senses, he absorbed the turbulent energy with his divine sense, " So, the creator of this stone isn't dead but still exists." A satisfaction lingered on his brows,
"Even though I am not a cultivator, but I can use fight techniques of cultivators, the energy to use is no limit for us Sages though however, the limitation is the realm of comprehension. With greater comprehension, the mental constitution imitates the universe more well. It feels so good! Hahahahaha!

Living in Paradise
The first thing I saw when I woke up was a group of people standing over me shouting "Happy Birthday!!!". Immediately after they start debating what type of world I came from and calling me 'William'. Later on I would learn that everyone here is reborn from another world and many children come with magic or superpowers or other gifts leftover from their old lives. I came from a world that was, to me, typical modernity. To them it was pretty boaring with the only thing interesting about my world being was a higher than average tech level for a non-spacefaring civilization; technology that wouldn't even work in this new world. All I brought with me was a peculiar mindset and the strong suspicion that there must be something more to life. Once everyone started to clear out my mother took me up in her arms, explained how the world works, and then stabbed me in the neck with a knife. I got better. -------------------- This story was written from the central idea of a simple question: What if a videogame like world, with all the normal video-game staples and tropes, was actually a real world? How would that work? How would people understand the universe around them? What sort of weirdness would the world appear to have from the point of view of someone who recognizes the odd nature of the place? And finally, if left to its own devices, how would this type of world ultimately develop?
