《The Tales of Hammerfall》Chapter 4 -- Guilds

Raph woke feeling refreshed, it was still pretty early in the morning judging by the light coming in through the walls. Raph got up and dressed while he figured out what he was going to do today.
‘Right, well I guess I should see what this Adventurers Guild is all about. Maybe I can get a few levels or something.’
Stepping outside Raph made his way through the settlement to the city wall.
“The great city of Langreth” Raph exclaimed as he gazed upon the 10m high battlements that surrounded the city proper. Walking up to the closest city gate on the south end of the wall he noticed four guards positioned outside, they were wearing heavy armor painted blue and yellow, the colors of Langreth. As he walked through the gate he analyzed the bigger looking guard.
Guard Captain Lv.64
The guard turned to his directions he walked past and Raph felt a strange chilling sensation, like the guard saw directly through him.
‘Oh, well I guess that’s why you’re not supposed to analyze people’ Raph thought as he walked into the city, onto the main road that led all the way through it.
‘So Hamish said that the Guild is near the town square so I guess I should find that first.’
Raph kept walking along the main road that led towards the centre of the city awed by what could only be described as a medieval city. The road was cobbled with carriages and horses were the main traffic as well as a large number of people. The houses on either side of the road were packed tightly together and two stories high made from stone and wood. The further into the city he walked the busier it got, after about 15 minutes after he passed the gate he reached a bustling square. Centered in the middle of the square was a large fountain about 10m across and made of what looked to be some kind of marble.
On the other side of the fountain Raph saw a large building with a sign for the Adventurers Guild over the door so he headed over to it, walking inside he found it packed with people wearing all kinds of weird and wonderful armor and weapons. His eye was immediately drawn to an enormous man standing in front of what looked to be a message board, he had heavily tanned skin with scars littered across it and strapped to his back was a massive two handed axe. To the left of the man Raph recognised someone who believed to be cosplaying Zoro, with a rapier hanging on his waist.
On the far side of the building Raph noticed some sort of kiosk so he went over to ask about becoming an adventurer. He waited in line for a few minutes until he got to the front and was met by an extremely polite older lady with graying hair and a permanent smile.

“Hello sir, how can I assist you today.” The older lady said, all smiles.
“Um hi.” Raph replied, unsure of his question. “I think I want to register as an adventurer.”
“Oh excellent. I will just have to ask you a few questions and then you will be analyzed, is that alright?”
Not too happy about having to be analyzed again Raph replied. “Yeah that's fine.”
“Excellent. First off, can I have your name and age please?”
“Raphael Smith, and I’m...” Raph paused, he just realized that his new body wasn't the same age as his old one so he took a second to come up with an answer. “19 years old”
“Great, next I have to ask if you have any outstanding warrants?”
“No ma’am.”
“And lastly, is Langreth your place of residence?”
“Yes it is.” Raph replied wondering why that was relevant.
“Almost done now, I will analyze you now” As she said that Raph felt the chill rush over him again and he heard the old lady at the counter mutter something.
“Huh.” she said quietly, and added quickly after. “Alright Raphael, why don't you take a look around and we will bring you your card in around 5 to 10 minutes.”
“Thank you ma’am” Raph said as he turned away from the kiosk and once again began to look at all of the adventures and the many different clothes and weapons they had. He walked over to the board to see what it was about, after reading some of the posting he realized it was like a bounty board where people would post missions. The posts had a general description of the job, what level of adventurer they required and a payment amount for successful completion. As Raph was reading one of the jobs about something called a Bealtcher someone tapped him on the shoulder, he turned to see one of the staff members with a metallic colored card in their hands.
“I believe this is for you sir.” she said and handed Raph the card.
“Oh. thank you” Raph took the card from the staff member and inspected it. It was about the size of a credit card from his old world; the card color indicated what tier he was, it had his name, age and main city on as well.
“Well that's pretty neat.” Raph said as he stored the card in his pocket. He walked back over to the other side of the job board where the easy ones are posted. After a few minutes of deliberation he grabbed one and walked over to the counter.
“Hi again, I’d like to accept this job please.” Raph put the notice on the counter as the older lady who served him earlier took a look at it.

“Oh, is that so? Are you sure you want this one?” she replied.
“Yes I’m sure.”
“Alright, can I have your card for a moment?” Raph passed her his card as she said this.
The older lady took his card and the notice walked away from the counter and then came back a minute later.
“Ok Raphael, you're all set, good luck.” she smiled warmly as Raph walked outside of the Guild building.
As Raph was walking out, he inspected the job notice he got from the guild. The job was pretty basic; one of the farm houses was having a problem with a few goblins and requested someone to clear them out. The pay was 20 silver, which from Raph's previous memories seemed like a pretty good deal.
‘Alright the notice said the farm is on the northern fields, I should go out a different gate to get there.’ Raph followed one of the other roads that led away from the square, when he was a few minutes away from the square the city got much quieter as he entered part of the city with some of the smaller businesses.
As he was walking along he felt that chilling sensation again, he had just been analyzed. Before he could even spin his head around he heard an aged voice call out.
“Hey you.” The aged voice said.
Raph spun around to face the direction of the caller, it was an old man leaning out the door to one of the shops. Glancing at his caller, Raph saw that the shop in question had a sign above the door with a small hammer and tongs embossed on it.
‘A smith?’ Raph thought to himself as he walked over to the old man.
“Yes? Can I help you?” Raph replied somewhat confused as to why he was analyzed.
“You’re a Breaker.” The old man said, rather sternly.
“Uhhhhh.” Raph was unsure how to answer that, remembering Hamish’s words about telling others your class.
“I’ll take that as a yes then.” said the man with a smile. “So, do you want a job?”
“What?” By this point Raph was completely perplexed.
“A job. You know, help me out and you get paid?”
“But why me?”
“Well lets just say I have a good feeling about you.” The old man replied with a smile and stuck out his hand. “Names Isaac, Isaac Murphy.”
“Uuhh Raph.” Raph said, offering his hand to Isaac who proceeded to shake it with a force that Raph could have sworn should have broken his hand.
While in the midst of the handshake Raph got a good look at Isaac. He wasn’t just old; he was ancient, bald except for a few tufts of hair at the sides with deep eyes forged with experience, he wore an apron that was made from some sort of leather that was charred and scratched all over.
“All right Raph, why don't you come back here tomorrow and I’ll get you started on something easy. I have some other things to attend to today.” Isaac said, then stepped back into his shop and practically slammed the door on Raph's face.
Raph stood there for a good minute before he snapped out of it.
“Well that was odd.” He said out loud as he started to walk away, heading in the direction of the farm.
‘What a strange man, I guess I'm going to be some kind of apprentice then?’ Raph mused.
He left the city through a different gate and went to find the farmhouse with the problem, it took him about 30 minutes to find it. The house in question was relatively small and backed on to the forest, with fields in front and a small stable at the side. Walking up to the door Raph decided to knock to see if anyone was home.
The door opened and revealed a middle aged woman with chestnut, shoulder length hair and a rosy complexion.
“Can I help you?” she said.
“I’m an adventurer, here about the goblin problem.” said Raph, as he took out the id card from his pocket.
“Oh Wonderful! I’m Maria, please come in.” Maria said as she led Raph into the main room.
“A pleasure to meet you, I’m Raph.” Raph said as he sat down at the table, he continued. “Can you tell me about the goblins Maria?”
“Nasty little things,” she spat. “They’ve been destroying the fields and they even managed to injure my husband.”
“I’m sorry Maria, that’s terrible. Do you know where they are coming from?”
“They come out from the woods at night, by the time we realise what's happening they have usually gone.”
“Alright Maria, thank you for your hospitality but I better get on this problem.” Raph said as he stood up, he turned and walked to the door.
“Don’t worry I’ll sort this problem out.” Raph said as he left the small homestead.
“Ok, let's find me some goblins.” Raph said ‘Right, so they must be camped out somewhere near here.’ Raph was considering his options as he walked into the woods, the trees were dense and the foliage was in full bloom this time of year.

The Last Journey
A slice of life litrpg story... or is it? It's burning slow, though. Moving on: War comes with a great cost. Lives and time wasted for most part. One could either be run with sword, be poisoned, be bowed, and sometimes meet their end with just a tiny speck of wood. With magic, it becomes even more colorful. From lightning, to worse poison, to hovering rocks, to weird bladed leaves, to whipping roots, and to a lot more odd things easily reasoned with magic. A wonderful creation. But once used to something more than wonder, more than tricks to gather laughs, it becomes worse. War becomes worse. For there is not only blood to be spilled. A particular town almost met the same end. Soldiers geared with swrords and bows came with mounts. Horses burning lush grasses as it cracked boulders and the soil alike with every step. The kind that only war ones could ever do. Even strange wheeled creations that oozed danger were towed, loaded with something meant to destroy. But not once had they acted upon what such devices should've done, nor what an an army is supposed to do. Siege never occurred, as much as a command to war. No. Magic existed so a simple little fire is all the worth the town has. No sword drawn, no arrows nocked, nothing. Just some mana spent and through the ash they march. That was how Nudius saw her end. It came not even as a surprise. She didn't have the moment to fully register what occurred before she found herself in an empty dark space. Life lost, time spent. All from a fire that had not even touched her. But she knew very well that it was magic. Something she wished to have and strived for to have. Yet it seemed that none of it would matter now. Nudius was well aware of what the color around meant, of the odd situation, of the unfeeling state of her being. It was death and that was it. She didn't have to worry or dream further. Although there wasn't what she truly wanted in what death to her is, but at least, Nudius was comforted to what she believed death is. Rest. But little did she know there's something more than that empty space. It wasn't only the promise of rest, but was also more than she could ever hope for. Another chance at life. Another chance to dream. ***Tags are there just in case. You never know! Umm... HI-MI-TSU. Story blurb+: This is slow burn, quite slice of life story about a girl learning magic. All the while as she fatten herself up. So yeah, progression fantasy. But there's Litrpg! Numbers! Magic! Spells! And of course! There's something more. But read on ahead, please. Oh yes. Plot! There is, too. Disclaimer: The cover isn't made by me. Just layered it with a text. I got it from a free website, if I correctly recall. I'll see to it. (Haven't worked on it.)
