《The Tales of Hammerfall》Chapter 3 -- Class

He could hear voices all around him and feel the physical protest from his injured body after the goblin attack. Raph wearily opened his eyes to see a huddle of people around him, the sun was already up in the sky and into the morning. He sat up and looked at the faces that were around him, he recognised Hamish as he helped him up.
“Hey kid, how ya feelin’?” Hamish asked.
“ugghhh” Raph groaned as he sat up, he looked around wearily and noticed the goblins corpse over to the side of him. As he was staring at the corpse of the goblin and trying to recall the events of the previous night Hamish interrupted.
“Here kid, you’re going to need this.” Hamish said as he passed Raph what looked to be a small vial containing a murky greenish liquid, which to Raph seemed anything but appetizing.
Raph took the vial of green stuff from Hamish and looked at it, confused.
“Drink it kid, you took a couple of big hits from that little bastard.” Hamish practically forced the vial up to Raphs mouth and tipped his head back.
“Hpplpll” Raph spluttered somewhat as he ingested the green stuff, it had a medicinal taste that was both immensely unpleasant and sweet.
“There you go kid, you’ll be right in no time.” Hamish slapped Raph on the back as he stood up and pulled Raph with him. Hamish basically carried Raph back through the fields and into the small settlement outside the city, he brought Raph to a small house that he owned and sat him down at a small dining table.
“Thanks Hamish,” said Raph as he sat down at the table. “I thought I was done for back there.”
“First time eh kid?” Hamish looked at Raph inquisitively.
“First time?” Raph said, confused.
“Monsters. That was your first one, wasn’t it?”

“Uhhh. yeah, I guess it was.”
“Well you should probably check your screens kid.” Hamish said
Raph looked over to Hamish in shock, it had only just occurred to him that he wasn't the only person to have the status screens, it seems like everyone else has them too.
“Huh. I guess I should, thanks Hamish.” Raph replied absentmindedly.

“Well this is interesting.” Raph said to himself. “Hey Hamish”
“Yeah kid?” Hamish replied.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Sure thing”
“Umm what class are you?” Raph asked. To which Haminsh turned sharply to look at him, his look was intense.
“I know you’re new to this kid, but be wary of who ya ask questions like that too. Some people don’t take kindly to intrusive questions.” Hamish said sternly and then replied straight after. “But seeing as I know you’re a good kid, I'm a Brawler Lv.72.”
“Oh, yeah I guess that makes sense, thank you Hamish” Raph added quickly. “I really appreciate you telling me that.”
Hamish continued “Generally kid, the classes you get are based on what you have done before you get the choice and there will usually be some standard ones thrown in there as well. The common ones are stuff like; Worker, Farmer, and even Warrior. If you are lucky you can get something more specific like a Fighter or a Heavy Warrior. So if you got anything interesting like that you should probably take it.”

“Riiight, thanks a lot Hamish.” The class options made more sense now, he read through them again and after the fight with the goblin he was pretty much set on a choice.

“Didn’t you just say you should ask people that?” Raph retorted.
“Well usually yeh, however the look on ya face is makin me curious. And don’t forget, I told you mine.” Hamish said with a sly grin.
“I got something called a Breaker,” Raph said.
“Hmmm, not heard o that one before,” Hamish replied curiously. ”Must be a good’un. You know kid, if ya want to make some money now ya got a combat class, ya can check out the Guild in the city.”
“The Guild?” Asked Raph, confused.
“The Adventurers Guild kid, it's just off the town square” Hamish added.
“Are you an adventurer Hamish?”
“I was. A long time ago I was a bronze rank adventurer but I'm retired now, kid.”
“Bronze rank?” Raph asked.
“The guild measures strength in ranks; you start at Iron, then at Lv.50 you go to Bronze, at 100 Silver, and 200+ is Gold.”
“Is there anything higher than Gold rank?”
“I think so, never seen one myself though.” Hamish replied as he pulled out the hammer that Raph used to kill the goblin the night before and plonked it on the table. “You should take this with ya if you plan on going to the guild.”
“Ummm, I don’t know Hamish.” Raph looked at the hammer on the table, feeling slightly queasy as he remembered the goblins head exploding when the hammer hit it.
“Just take it, better safe than sorry.” Hamish pushed it in front of Raph.
“Alright thanks Hamish, anyway I should head back, I think I need to get some sleep.” Raph said as he stood up and grabbed the hammer of the table. “Thanks for everything.”
“See ya round kid.” Hamish said as he waved Raph out the door.
Raph left Hamish’s house and managed to find his way to his room in a few minutes, once he was inside he laid down on his bed, the events of the day got to him and he quickly fell asleep.

The Way of Wrought Earth, or: My Tale of Rebirth as a Mostly Inanimate Rock
Mirage Winter. Second Clause, current act. A Relic Hunter's life is harsh — and often short — in the shattered lands of the Frontier. But when Whitelight reemerges, a legendary blade capable of separating anything the user wills it to cut, a newly formed unit organized of Hunter’s both young and old (and sediment based, in a particular case) vow to stop it from falling into cruel hands. Standing against them is the Frontier itself: the unbridled wrath of global federations, fellow Hunters, and those who lurk in the shadows of giants. As the world races to unravel a history desperately concealed, a semi-sapient rock soon realizes that some things are better off dead and buried — especially when those secrets carry an insidious corruption with no cure. Iteration: Mirror-glass Stars in Iron Oceans. First Clause. A soul wakes up as a rock, clinging to fragmented memories and knowledge of another era. What fate awaits such a creature? No, this isn't satire. Yes, I am dumb enough to try to take this seriously. Updates Wednesday, Friday with a variable amount of chapters. This story is not recommended for the easily disturbed. This is your only warning.
