《Crystal High》Chapter 2: High School Selection

I was in homeroom when they gave us our recommended sheets. On them we write what high schools we would prefer to go to. Our teacher told us, "Choose wisely because these could very well decide your future. Each high school specializes in different things, and different power levels. For example, Shepherd Academy focuses on lower levels and manual labor jobs, while Crystal High focuses on higher levels and combat for the military, but don't worry I don't think we will have anyone going there in this classroom."
Ben, the class clown chimed in, "Nahh, Khan is planning on going there! Haha."
The whole class burst into laughter because they thought it was a joke. How could a sagaru like me go to Crystal High? It wasn't a joke though. Since he sits right next to me, he must have seen that the first school I put down was Crystal High. I think that if any school can make use of me, or even better find me something to stimulate my power, it would be that school since it has the most money and resources. I ducked my head, and sunk into my chair. I hate these types of situations. I wish I could just disappear. Once the students realized that it wasn’t a joke, they all looked at me with eyes of contempt. They probably thought I was being arrogant in trying to go to Crystal High, but that wasn’t the case at all. They probably wouldn’t listen to my explanation even if I told them though. The rest of the class I was given side eyes from everybody in the class. When it finally came time to go to lunch, people pushed me down in the hallway, spat on me, and I even had one person kick my knee to try keep from coming to school for the next couple of weeks. When I finally got into the cafeteria, I saw everybody crowd around one table. No doubt Zen was in the middle of them. The Ice Queen as they call her, she is cold and distant as she is beautiful. I remember I saw her at the coffee shop near my house once, and she didn’t have enough money to pay for her drink. Noticing people getting annoyed behind her, and the person at the cash register started to get bothered as well as she tried to come up with an excuse to get some money off on the drink, I went up and payed for the rest of her drink with the extra money I had. It didn’t bother me that much to pay for it since I have plenty of money left over from my parents giving me money for lunch that I never use. The lunches at our school for sagarus aren’t even worth the money you have to pay to get it. Zen looked at me with semi-shocked eyes and told me, “Thank you.” In a calm and cool voice.

After that she walked away. It may not seem like it was much, but those two words made my day. I can’t believe she even talked to me to be honest. A person with her beauty and social status talking to me was a miracle in itself, but the simple thank you are words I haven’t heard from anybody other than family in such a long time. It stuck with me. So, as I was standing the cafeteria staring at the large group, a couple of people knocked me to the ground as they went to join them. I simply got up with a grimace and went to go sit in a corner like usual.
The rest of the day I was constantly berated with, "How could human shit like you make it THAT high school?!"
"You should just kill yourself now Sagaru, before you die of embarrassment!"
It didn't bother me that much. After hearing all this since I was six, I'm used to it. I went and did my training like I usually did after school, and the other kids still trashed while I did it like usual. All I can think about while doing it today though, is how I'm going to show all of them that sagarus aren't useless pieces of shit.
I started running my lap around the town, and it started to rain a bit while I was running. This just really isn't my day. I entered into the forest section of town though, and the trees give me a little cover from the rain. About the middle of the forest I see some silhouettes form. As I get closer, I realize it is Drazen and his crew. Drazen is the most talented and highest-level student at my school. I wonder why he is here?
