《Rat In The Dungeon》14. Miracle

The time has come.
I am slowly descending… my only hope whatever the disturbance earlier was is gone. I am about to get eaten… and I understand it is only my fault for being greedy.
So in the end you can put value on life…. My was only ten gold.
That’s how much I valued my life. That is the paltry sum of gold that I decided is worth risking my entire life over.
So be it. If there is no rescue I will accept it. I am not scared. I don’t want to die but that’s how it is.
As I accepted my death… spider removed part of cocoon just to reveal his fangs that were about to bite into me.
Then as if all my pleads were listened to a miracle happened.
The weakest monster.
Clearly newborn black rat that were known for literally dying as soon as they are born or at most surviving up to day in the bait zones…. was menacingly challenging the spider… well not really challenging but obliterating… I have no doubts the spider will win but after a little bit of the observing I cannot shake the feeling the rat is about to win.
While weak the rat was extremely lucky.
It attacked from behind and was right on top of the spider neck where it bit over and over like crazy madman. Well monsters are all crazy so that’s normal but this move was very effective.
The spider was extremely limited to what it could do, all its deadly weapons sealed and the only option he had is smash itself over and over into its webs and walls in hopes to shake of the rat.
The rat persevered… probably few more jumps or anything from the spider would’ve resulted in victory… but the spider body was lying right in front of me.

I almost died by the spider falling on me… maybe I would’ve survived but the chances were slim. Glad it didn’t fell on me then phew. Anyways a sudden wave of fear. I knew there is wounded monster close by that’s very likely going to kill me. Before I knew it my hand was partially free with the single trusty throwing knife that I had leftover from before in the air.
I missed, damn… so much for perfect aim… I think I missed because of various elements but I cursed at my only chance of survival being squashed by my own mistake.
Only to be slowly realizing the almost dead rat is chewing on the cocoon so carefully that there was no way it could’ve hurt me.
Once I was free of the cocoon I immediately activated my blade wave, still holding off from firing it but prepared to do so at moments notice… I had made sure to threaten the rat to back off. With some unhappy annoying squealing it just casually walked off to the almost eaten bear and started eating.
The curiosity got the best of me and despite being ready to slash the pest immediately I just walked close to it circled it and pet it few times there and there.
The rat didn’t even reacted it seemed very focused on eating the bear as it closed all of its wounds, no matter what.
I smartly backed off when I noticed there is only a short while before the rat finishes off the entire bear.
Now it is on.
With no doubts in my mind that the rat will get overwhelmed by its nature and honestly hoping it will because otherwise there might be problems in the future.
If this rat can kill a bear and spider.

It if gets enough biomass and levels… what if it becomes a boss in the future… the ruin it could bring would be immense if it ever escaped dungeon.
But mostly my pride was hurt, every single monster even single ant can became an almost godlike entity in our world… its well known fact.
And in fact almost every type of creature we known was documented to do so at least once in the history. So acting like I care was just a show I wanted to kill it because I couldn’t accept I got saved by the weakest of the trash of monster. I just couldn’t handle it mentally.
I think the rat picked on fast enough on my every intention to reward its help by murdering it.
I have never been so sure to understand something that I didn’t understand at all none of the squeaks made any sense to me… it was just annoying high pitch noice… while I have no idea what the rat said to me it was so frustrated and desperate to convey its feeling to scold me that I had to shake it off.
Sure… fuck it. I sheeted my sword and deactivated blade wave. I could’ve sworn the rat sighted in relive despite no such thing happening.
I didn’t even bother to slowly back off I just walked out. It would not hurt me that much I knew. Thank you rat I will remember you.
It is just a rat. No harm done ignoring it. It helped me as well. Honestly I actually appreciated the help greatly there was just no way to show it and I cannot say I am comfortable with the situation at all.
There is also the problem of explaining the situation to the association. We are legally bind to inform of anything irregular or even barely weird happening inside dungeons and they had the option to randomly scan for truth which I had no doubts they would do to someone who survived weeks in dungeon without food and was a newbie as well.
Oh well there is going to be one famous rat shortly.
I chuckled at this because I knew there is high chance of it being specifically target hunted, because monsters like these might be deemed extremely dangerous to leave alone.
Oh well. I have survived and that’s the most important part. Whatever future has for me in store I will be ready. No more stupidity, I have been given second chance and I have learned from my mistakes.
Well at least until I delve again… I still think my style of fighting cannot change much. It fits me too well.
But that can wait right now I am approaching the gate and feeling relieved I collapse into the arms of the guard stationed there.
Overwhelmed by sudden food and sleep need, I just couldn’t stay conscious… lets just hope they wouldn’t let me die.
Little rat.. thank you and good luck…
