《We Are Humans》Chapter 3 Axel Iridian

Moments before the explosion, Fe and Cu got as far away as possible from the conflict that was about to unfold between the two droids and the fleet of Ti9000s, they hastened through a clustered forest of bare trees, withered vines, and dying grass.

Even though this greenery was withered and dying, they were the most of nature Fe and Cu have seen, compared to the "City Of Steel" where no trees, grass or even dirt existed, nothing but metallic streets, reinforced steel buildings, and various objects made of metals.

As they continued to run through the forest, the withered trees and plants became greener and livelier, but though their curiosity elevated as they saw these beautiful and long-forgotten surroundings for the first time, they stayed focused and continued to run. Attempting to get as far away as quickly as possible.

Cu: " Those old droids back there, how did you know them?!"

Shouted Cu as he ran through the forest behind Fe,

Fe: "They saved me from back at the junkyard last night when I found the child, I think they were protecting it as well, that's why I know they can hold off the Ti9000s..."

replied Fe as she looked back at Cu,

Cu: "Watch out!"

Shouted Cu as he grabbed hold of Fe from running off the edge of a large descent. It was the end of the path through the forest, a massive flood of water can be heard pouring down below as they overlooked a beautiful horizon, filled with fields of bright green, blooming trees decorated with various fruits and animals. Birds and deer can be seen from where they stood, as well as forgotten ruins covered in flourishing nature,

Fe: "What is this place?"

Cu: "We have no time to stand around and guess, where do we go from here Fe? That drop is too much for the child to survive the impact, even our bodies would be shattered from the fall"

Cu replied anxiously as Fe looked down at the child,

Fe: "What other choice do we have? Just keep moving forward..."

Then suddenly, "BOOM!" The bomb that the two droids detonated can be seen above the trees crowding them in the forest. As the shockwave began to lay all the trees flat upon impact. It reaches Fe and Cu, sending their metallic bodies along with their luggage hurling over the edge and down below.

Cu quickly grabbed hold of Fe as they began to fall,

Cu: "looks like we really didn't have a choice! Hold onto that child tightly Fe!"

Screamed Cu, as he then proceeded to release one of the containers attached to his backpack and out flies a patched up parachute.

Cu: "This should soften our landing, not by much but enough to survive the drop if we manage to land in the trees below."

Fe holds the child safely in her arms, as they rapidly fell, crashing into the trees down below. "Creak! Thatch! Snap!" The sturdy, thick branches of the largely luxuriant, bushy trees break instantly as their metallic bodies collided into them. The parachute, now poked with holes hooked onto the freshly snapped branches holding Cu and Fe in place, just a few feet away from the ground.

Cu cuts the rope, releasing them from the tangled mess in the trees, and dropping them to the floor.

Cu: "Now some of our equipment and luggage are scattered among this group of large structures, at least we have our valuable metals and credits attached to our backs."

Fe quickly checked to see if the child is unharmed and then looked around at the trees surrounding her. She then slowly walked towards the bulky trunk of one of the trees and rested her metallic hand against its rigged and crusty bark, gliding her hand along the sides of it romanticly.

Fe: "They're called trees, a forest of trees" replied Fe,

Cu: "What?"

Questioned Cu confused,

Fe: "The things you called structures, they're called trees. I remember them now after having time to examine them thoroughly."

The two of them then looked up to a monstrous funnel-shaped body of water from the large amounts of rain, being poured off the edge of a large chrome-covered mountain structure where the city of the machines rested atop.

Fe: " So this is how small our world was compared to the real world... Fascinating!" Fe shouted excitedly.

Presently, back in the city where The Primordial resides in his headquarters.

The Primordial: " The Ti9000s failed to retrieve the human child, hindered by mere rusted droids with big toys. Humiliating, but my biggest question and concern isn't whether that child would even survive out there, but rather where did it come from, if it did indeed come from here, and How?"

The Primordial questioned himself, pacing back and forth in his projected holographic body

The Primordial: " All Ti9000s, commence an entire search of the city. Find me any and all traces of where this human could have come from. The two junkyard guards said they first saw it in the junkyard so search there, and destroy all machines and droids found inside. Search their memory boards for any and all footage they may have seen of those old droids and the machines carrying the child. Then send a search team outside of the city and around the parameter of the explosion to see if they managed to escape the blast."

ordered The Primordial, as waves of Ti9000s dispatched from the front of the building suited with menacing artillery, storming the streets of the Metallic City.

The Primordial: "Humans, such persistent creatures they are."

Said The Primordial as his projected body smiles, looking onto the army of Ti9000s from his massive window in his office at the top of the tower. With a wide view of the city and the lands outside of it.

Back in the forest, Fe and Cu continue to traverse the new grassy terrain. The child begins to cry in a deafeningly loud tone, with its fist clasped shut.

Cu: "It must be hungry, I do believe these things needed substances like fuel to keep operating at peak performance, correct?"

Questioned Cu uncertain and curious,

Fe: " Yes that is right Cu, it needs some form of food and fresh water to function... to live, or they die."

Cu: "Live...Die?"

Fe: "Yes, they can...cease to operate at all, in other words, die. Unlike us they are alive"

Cu: "But we are alive, we operate just as they do, do we not?"

Fe: "yes, but they are different, they do no need parts, all that they are made of, is organic and self-maintaining."

Cu looked at the child more curious than ever and reaches over to touch the child with his metallic finger.

Fe: "We should gather some of these fruits and scan the area for drinkable water."

Cu: "How do you know all of this Fe? Have you always known?"

Fe "Seeing all of these things, this other world...The real world... It is unlocking the memories that were erased or rather locked away. And I think it is happening for you too, isn't it?"

Stated Fe. Cu looks up to the sky, glancing at the clouds above, contemplating everything he's discovered up until now.

Cu: " I guess you are right, well there's no turning back now. We must give it a name, that I do know, they must have names like any ordinary manufactured machine, do you see a manufactured number on it?"

Fe softly laughs in a robotic tone,

Cu: "What? do they not have manufactory numbers?"

Fe: "No they do not Cu, they are not made like us, but you are right. they do have names."

Cu: " What do we call it?" Asked Cu,

Fe: " Well it is a boy, so how about Axel..... the bond holding the two of us together as we keep moving forward" replied Fe,

Cu: "That is so short for a name, do they all have such minimalistic names?"

Fe: "No, they also had an additional name, something called the last name, the name that held most meaning and importance to the humans according to my memories."

Stated Fe, as she stares at the child as it cries,

Fe: " They're body never rust or erode away easily to the elements as we do, they're very resistant against corrosion so how about a name based off of iridium, Iridian... Axel Iridian, that shall be his name!" Shouted Fe in excitement,

Cu: "Axel Iridian... So we would call him Ai for short, that's ironic."

Fe: "You are bound for greatness little one, I saw it in your eyes the moment I found you... now let's get you something to eat"

Fe says to the child as she walks up to a very fertile tree, baring thick, fleshly fruits.

Cu: "We must also look for shelter, I'll go scan for water and a place to settle down, I'll grab any lost gear from the fall while I'm at it and radio you while we are apart"

Fe: "Ok, turning on my radio receiver now, can you hear me?"

Cu: "Affirmative"

Fe: "I will feed Axel and gather as many food supplies for him until then"

The two of them then go off separate ways to do their planned tasks, the setting sun up above, descending from the sea of soft fluffy clouds racing across the sky as time escalated. Soon stars begin to reveal themselves,

Cu: "Fe, I have found a river of clean water as well as a small cavern close by, that should do just fine as a shelter for right now. Do you copy?" A static sound buzzes in as Fe receives the transmission.

Fe: "I do, I've already fed Axel and I'm heading your way now, turn on your tracking signal so I can receive your location with my scan."

A small bulb on Cu's head begins to blink as he initiates his tracking beacon

Cu: "Are you sure it's safe for me to initiate my signal beacon? Suppose the Ti9000s pick it up on their top of the line signal trackers?!"

Fe: "Don't worry Cu, we are much too far for your weak signal to reach anywhere near the city from this distance. And didn't you hear the gunfire, the bomb? That was those old droids. I told you they would hold them off, however unfortunate they expired themselves in that explosion to do so"

Cu: "yeah I'm sure nothing survived that blast, not even the Ti9000s. Where did those old droids get their hands on such devastating weapons?"

Fe: "I'm more curious about who made such weapons."

replies Fe as she approaches Cu ceasing the radio communication.

Fe: " let's settle in for the night until we journey onwards to find better accommodation for the child. It wouldn't be good for the child's health to continue travelling at night."

They both enter the cavern, laying down bits and pieces of cloth from their luggage, making an impressively comfy bed for the child to sleep in.

Fe: "Sleep well Axel, for you are the last child of man, destined for a tireless journey, you are the true beginning of tomorrow."

Fe stares up to the sky decorated beautifully with the stars, as the child sleeps peacefully.
