《A World in Chaos》Chapter 25: First Kill

[I stare out the window of the second floor and it was raining. It was still a weak dribble of rain but looking at the clouds, it was going to be pouring and it doesn’t look like it’ll be stopping anytime soon.]
[Gogo was currently going over our plan of action when we leave this area.]
“Our goal is to obtain food and the closest place to the stairs is the student store. There are restaurants and such but there could be zombies walking around so we will aim for the nearest store. I’m sure none of you want to die so we’ll be making our trip a short one. We enter the student store and grab whatever snacks or tools you think we may need. Do you guys understand?”
“Yeah.”
“Ok.”
“Yes.”
[Everyone quickly agreed to Gogo’s plan. He had basically become the head leader of the four teams. No one was refuting his ideas.]
“Master, is Jude still coming?”
“Yes, he’s closer than before but it seems like he’s stuck.”
“Ok.”
“We will be leaving in 10 minutes. Take this time to check on your equipment and your teammates. Remember this, your equipment can be broken and replaced but your camaraderie can’t. Keep a watch on everyone in your team.”
[Everyone’s morals increased as Gogo was done with his speech. It was probably due to his years as the MMA club leader but he was very charismatic. Even Jill was blushing at seeing how cool Gogo was.]
“Gogo can we talk for a bit.”
“Yeah, go ahead.”
[Every person was going back into their own teams after hearing Gogo’s speech. I take Gogo away from the others and begin speaking to him about my plans.]
“Gogo, I’m planning on running away from this place. Do you want to join me?”
“You’re escaping? Where are you going to go besides here? Is there even any other place that is safe anymore?”
[His concerns were totally justified. We’ve been safe here for a few days already so why should we risk that. We don’t know if it was just the university that was affected, it could be the city, or it could even be the whole world that’s facing this zombie outbreak. None of us knows this because we don’t have any connection to the internet. The outside world is unknown to us.]
“I’ll be truthful with you Gogo. My friend is coming to save us right now and he is a very capable person.”
“Is he by himself? What can he do for you to trust him that much?”
‘Mei 2, are you going to tell Gogo about Jude and Fifi.’
Yeah.
“Master, can you show yourself. I need to convince Gogo.”
“Who are you talking t...”
[Before he could finish talking, Master showed herself to him. She was currently sitting on my breasts looking out of the window. Gogo was flabbergasted and couldn’t say anything for a while.]
“Who? What is this thing?”
“I’m not a thing. My name’s Fifila Phhilora, the greatest fairy in existence.”
“Oh, sorry. Nice to meet you, I’m Gorou Gorildo, a regular human.”
‘Ahahaha, did he just introduced himself as a regular human. Ahahaha!!!’
Stop it Mei 3, if you keep on laughing then I’ll start to laugh too.
“This is my Master, Fifila. I’m currently her first apprentice and her second apprentice is coming to save us right now. Will you run away with us?”

“This isn’t a prank, right? This is actually a real fairy?”
[Gogo was still a little shocked at everything but he recovered quickly.]
“How strong is this second apprentice.”
“Very strong!! Don’t you dare underestimate him.”
[Master answered before I could even say anything. Gogo looked at me for confirmation.]
“Yeah, Master is correct. Jude is very strong. He’s an amateur when it comes to fighting other humans but if it’s fighting monsters then he’s probably the strongest person in this entire university.”
“I see. If he’s a fairy’s apprentice then does that mean can use something like magic?”
“Yeah.”
[After hearing that Gogo began to think. He was probably thinking if going with us would be the best choice of action for him.]
“I’ll go with you. I did make a deal with you after all, but I still want to make the food run. I’ll tell everyone our plan of running away but if there are people who still want to stay then I want to help them bring back food.”
“Ok.”
[Gogo ends our talk and gathers everyone around.]
“There’s been a change in our plans. I’m thinking about leaving this place and finding a safer place. Does anyone want to join me.”
[Everyone started discussing amongst themselves but most of them had the same answers.]
“I’ll go. I can’t stay here anyway.”
“We’re sent to our death anyway so I might as well run away.”
“I’ll be fine with having someone like Gorou as our leader.”
“Yeah, Chad and his groups are all messed up in the mind.”
[Everyone who was in the no group faction was fine with Gogo’s decision. The only problem was those in the Chad faction who joined us.]
“Wait, we can’t leave yet. I haven’t even had a chance to use my Chad points.”
“Stop acting selfishly. We need to bring back food so I can get those 1,000 Chad points.”
“I’m going to go and tell Chad and them what you guys are trying to do.”
[The 5 people from the Chad group were rejecting Gogo’s proposal to run away. They were complaining but since they were outnumbered, the no faction group shut them down.]
“We don’t give a shit about your dumb Chad points.”
“Go kill yourself. You want us to sacrifice our lives for yours.”
“Go ahead and tell Chad our plans. We’ll kill you before you get there though. Be careful of what you say asshat.”
[The people from the no faction group was definitely harsher than the Chad faction. I even heard someone threaten perm douche.]
“Everyone calm down. I know you don’t want to help those in the Chad faction but we can’t just abandon them. If we do then we’ll be exactly the same as Chad. We’ll be exiling people to their death just like him. We’ll bring back food for those in the Chad group but we’ll also bring food for when we run away. That should be fine, right?”
[Everyone reluctantly agreed with Gogo’s proposal. They didn’t want to be like Chad who would easily abandon others.]
“Let’s get going then.”
[Gogo begins removing the barricade leading towards the hallway. Looking through the gaps, there weren’t any zombies in the hallway. Since the electricity was still working, the lights were still brightly lit.]
[Gogo carefully took down the barricade so only one person could go through at a time. Gogo was the first person to go through, then me, then Jill, and everyone else. The moment I get out Gogo signals me to go and check the conference room on the right while he checks the one on the left.]

[It was odd, the floor was oddly quiet. I would have expected some sort of groaning from the zombies but I couldn’t hear any.]
[I walk up to the door and look through the window on the door. What I saw was shocking. There were hundreds of zombies in there. They were just standing there silently looking at the zombie behind the podium. It’s like they were at an actual conference.]
‘We were living over a landmine this entire time. I can’t believe these zombies didn’t hear the sound of Chad’s faction at night.’
We got lucky.
[I look over at Gogo and his face was also pale. I guess the other room was just as bad as this one. Gogo quickly goes around and tells the other groups to stay quiet. They silently follow his orders and peer into the rooms. Every single person who looked through the room was shocked.]
[Our team heads forward while the others follow us behind. I was equipped with my gloves and my military knife. If a zombie was going to attack then I’ll be ready to kill it.]
[It was eerily silent as we continue forward. It was reminding me of the atmosphere of the prison. My body was starting to tense up.]
‘Mei 2, are you sure you don’t want me to take over?’
It’s fine.
[I can’t let Mei 3 take over. I’m sure she wouldn’t be able to kill a zombie. It looks too similar to a living human.]
[Gogo stops because up ahead was a lounge area where people can sit and relax or study. I silently walk behind him and look at the lounge, there was only one zombie with its back faced towards us.]
‘Mei 2, are you going to…’
Yeah, if you don’t want to see it then close your eyes.
‘I-I’m fine.’
“Gogo, I’ll take that one down.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m the only one with a real weapon.”
[No one else had a decent weapon on them. Even Gogo was only equipped with his MMA gloves and that definitely wasn’t going to pierce through a zombie's skull.]
“Alright, good luck.”
“Thanks.”
[I go around the corner and slowly walk towards the zombie. I don’t know how it senses people so I have to be as careful as possible. It might be able to see, it might be able to hear, it might be able to smell, or it might not have any of them. I was slowly getting closer and it hasn’t noticed me yet. It was just standing there. I could see its entrails coming out from the side of its stomach and it was emitting a foul odor.]
“Aim for its head. That will kill it.”
[Master whispers into my ear and that confirms my plan of action.]
[It was right in front of me. I tighten my grip on my knife and prepare my other hand to grab the zombie’s hair. My plan was simple, I would grab its hair with my left hand and jam my knife into the back of its skull.]
[As I planned, I stand up and immediately grab its hair. I jam my knife into its neck all the way into its brain. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. The spine and skull were relatively difficult to pierce through.]
[The blood was spurting out of the back of its neck and it was covering me in blood. It wasn’t over yet, the zombie was still moving. It tried to grab my arm but I continue to pierce my knife further in. If it doesn’t work the first time then I just have to do it multiple times. I pull my knife a little bit out before pushing it back in. In and out, in and out, in and out, in and out. Over and over again until it’s dead.]
‘Mei 2, it’s dead. Stop it.’
[In and out! I have to kill it!]
“Mako stop!! You’ve killed it already.”
[Water suddenly splashed at my face. My mind cleared up and the zombie was already dead. The back of its skull was filled with multiple holes from me stabbing it.]
[I didn’t mind all the blood and bones but my adrenaline was still rushing through my body. My grip was so tight on my knife that I couldn’t let it go.]
“Let’s clean you up.”
[Master created a bubble of water and gently cleaned my face and body. By the end of it, Master’s blue water had turned completely red.]
“You did a good job, Mako.”
[Master floated in front of me and patted my head.]
“T-thank you.”
[My voice couldn’t clearly come out. My entire body was tense after my first kill. It was somewhat exhausting.]
‘Please rest in peace in the afterlife. Where ever you may go, I hope you are happy.’
[Mei 2 said her prayers to the zombie I just killed. At that moment I felt a hand on my back. I quickly turn around and point my knife at whatever it was.]
“Calm down, it’s just me.”
[It was just Gogo who touched my shoulder. I breathe a sigh of relief and stand up. Looking around the other teams were staring at me. In their eyes, I could see signs of fear. That was to be expected, I did just kill a zombie.]
I wonder how Jude made it seem so easy when killing a zombie. My body is so tired right now.
“Let’s go, Mako, we still have to reach the student store.”
“Ok.”
[We leave the lounge area and head towards the stairs that lead to the first floor. Unlike the third floor which only has one stairway, the second floor has three different stairways. This one in the middle of the building, the one that leads outside, and another one on the other side of the building. We were right next to the one in the middle of the building.]
[Looking over the railings, I could only see a few zombies that weren’t close to the student store. This was really weird because on the day of the outbreak the university was swarmed with zombies. There should be quite a lot of zombies in this building but only the conference rooms had a lot of them.]
“Everyone gather around. The student store is just down the stairs and to the left. Teams 3 and 4 will stay outside of the store and warn us if any zombies are coming. Team 1 and 2 will go in and stuff their backpacks with as much food as possible in 10 minutes. Don’t forget, 10 minutes only. If we stay any longer then we risk zombies hearing us. Do you guys understand?”
[Everyone agreed and we begin to walk down the stairs. The student store wasn’t that far from the entrance so we would be able to escape from there.]
[The zombies haven't noticed us so team 1 and team 2 enters the student store and quickly rummage through. I look around the store but don’t see any zombies. There’s blood all over the ground and walls but no bodies.]
[I stuff my backpack with various snacks and medicines. The student store’s layout was somewhat like a convenience store so there were lots of snacks, medicine, school supplies, and even school merchandise all around. After a bit, my backpack was already full because I had all my other gear in there.]
[I head out of the store and look around. The other two teams were standing around very tense.]
“Jude’s getting closer. Wait, he’s not heading towards us.”
“Where’s he going?”
“I-I don’t know.”
[Master’s voice was worried. If Jude didn’t come for us then we won’t be able to escape from Chad’s sex cult. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of gunshots. It sounded pretty close to us. I walk towards the exit and look through the glass doors. There was a group of people coming our way.]
[The group was made up of 9 people and there were two men in black who were shooting the zombies chasing after them. From the way they dealt with the zombies, it seemed like their group was used to dealing with them.]
[Half of the group were holding shields while the other half where holding makeshift spears. The group with the shields would push the zombies down while the group with the spears would try and stab the zombies in the head. The two men in black would use their pistol if it looked like someone was going to be attacked. It was all well coordinated and seemed like they were under a capable leader.]
[There was someone in there that I recognized. Her short frame and her long pixie cut hair was something I’ll never forget. She was the one leading the group.]
“Open the doors! There are other survivors!”
[I open the doors and order the other two teams to help. They were confused but eventually opened the doors. The other groups of survivors streamed in as they finished off the last zombie that was chasing after them.]
“Good job guys, we did it. Now we can grab food and head back.”
[Lisa was going around hi-fiving everyone in their team, even the men in black. It was just like her to encourage everyone that way.]
[I didn’t know how happy it would make me just to see a friend be alive after everything that has happened. I couldn’t control the feelings within me.]
“LISSSAAA!!!”
[I run up to her and hug her with all my might. I’m so happy seeing her alive.]
“Whoa!! Oh, it’s Mako!”
“Yep, it’s me.”
“Good, I was worried it would take time to find you. Alright men, hurry and gather whatever food you can find.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Got it.”
[The men in their group walked together to go check some of the other restaurants. The two men in black also followed them.]
“Who are these people?”
“They just killed like 8 zombies out there.”
“Awesome.”
[Our group was in awe of the skills of Lisa’s group. The difference between us and them was like the distance between the moon and the sun.]
“Lisa, let’s talk for a bit.”
[I drag Lisa into the student store so I can talk to her.]
“Where’s Jude? Wasn’t he with you when you guys fled?”
“H-he’s in trouble right now.”

8 76The Orb Weaver Chronicles
"The Orb Weaver Chronicles contains several major and unique events that may or may not unknowingly intertwines with one another. The author of these chronicles is unknown, although some have hinted at the symbolism behind its name..." - Year unknown, location unknown 9 February 2022 Update: Welcome to the companion short story compilation of my novel trilogy The Shadow Paradigm. This compilation features prequels, sidequels and sequels to the novel's major plotline, as well as featuring a wide range of characters, new and recurring. Prior knowledge of the novel is not necessary as the Orb Weaver Chronicles' short stories are standalone. Once called The Arkesyyan Chronicles, I've deleted quite a few of its old stories. Due to the new avenue and revision, oriented toward more mystery and film-noir ambience, that I took my stories into, I've removed all aliens and overly sci-fi aspects of the whole TSP lineup, so I've updated the Orb Weaver Chronicles accordingly. I hope you enjoy them, and in time, a revised version will also be updated.
