《A World in Chaos》Chapter 20: Back Pains

I know this wasn’t the most appropriate time to ask of this from Lisa but I needed her to do this for me. If she does this then I can use one of my hands.
Lisa wipes away her tears. She looks at me, understanding what I was intending to do.
“Ok, this is to save Mako, right?”
“Yes. I apologize to you and your boyfriend. I’m very sorry for asking this of you.”
I used what arm strength I had to lift her body up. She was very light so it didn’t take much effort. She wrapped her legs around my back and her arms around my neck. Her head was laying on my shoulder and her small breasts were pressed up against me.
I placed my left arm under her butt to secure her. Now I have free use of my right hand.
“Hold on tight. I’m going to run back”
“Ok.”
Her grip around me tightened and I kick a zombie that was coming from the front before running back towards Mako. She was being chased by the green goo zombie and Fifi was using her magic to stop the goo. They weren’t that far from us but there were other zombies blocking the path.
There were 4 to 5 zombies that were in my way. I can only use Fire Blast 3 more times so I need to conserve it. I run towards these zombies and two of them noticed my presence. The first one lunged itself at me so I used my hand to push its head aside. My hand was enveloped in wind magic and I released it as soon as it made contact with the zombie. The zombie was pushed further back because of the wind magic.
The next one was continuing its attack. It was trying to swing its right arm at me but it was vastly slower than when I fought Lisa. I sweep at the zombie's leg and it falls over. I stomp on its head before rushing towards Mako. The other three zombies that were blocking the path were distracted by other people.
“Help!! Someone help me.”
“My leg!!!”
“It hurts!!”
The entire university was in total chaos. People were running away but the zombies were faster than them. The anguished cries of people having their flesh torn apart roared throughout campus. As time passes more and more zombies were being created.
The green goo zombie was straight ahead. I can see that Mako was about to run up the stairs that led to plaza 1’s conference area. On the first floor of plaza 1, it was full of restaurants but the second floor up had conference rooms for the faculty and space for students to hang out.

There were other people running up to the second floor and there were also other people guiding the other students inside. Mako would probably be safe if she stayed with a group. All they have to worry about was that green goo zombie melting down the door to their sanctuary. If I get rid of that then Mako should be safe.
The green goo zombie was about to climb up but I already caught up with it. I just needed to kill it. I can see that Mako and Fifi entered the second floor and it looks like they were barricading the door because they saw the green goo zombie.
“JUDE!!!!”
“Keep Mako safe, Fifi!!!”
Fifi was worried about me but I’m fine. She should worry about her safety more since these zombies can see her. I hope that those other people with Mako and Fifi will keep them safe. I don’t trust any of them but at the moment, they’re the ones who can keep them safe. If they can’t keep Mako and Fifi safe by the time I come for them, then I’ll kill all of them.
“You green son of a bitch come over here.”
I shot simple magic made up of water and earth. If it still retains a sense of humanity then I hope this will anger it. My mud shot landed on the zombie’s suit and it was absolutely livid. It starts screeching and making unimaginable sounds. Its body was contorting in no way a human can. I definitely angered it.
“Come get me if you can, you dirty bastard.”
“You’re like a different person, Jude.”
Lisa suddenly commented on my attitude. I don’t really think I’m all that different from my everyday self.
“I’m just trying to get you and Mako to safety.”
I run away from plaza 1 as the green goo zombie chases me.
“It’s fast, Jude. I don’t think you can outrun it. Just leave me.”
What is Lisa saying? I’m trying to save her so why would I abandon her.
“Nope!! Either we survive together or you survive and get to meet with your boyfriend!!”
She was silent but she started laughing. Lisa is a very energetic person no matter the situation.
“Hahaha, ok. Then I’ll do whatever I can to help you then.”
She threw away her duffel bag, she threw away her backpack, and she even threw away her shirt. It helped a little bit and I could feel my speed increase.
“It still isn’t enough.”
“It’s fine, tell me when it’s about to attack.”
“Now!!!”

I spin around and point my right hand at the green goo zombie. It tried to pounce on me instead of using its magic. Its face was right in front of my hand as I cast magic.
“Fire Blast.”
Its body flew back but I could see that it wasn’t dead, its body was tougher than the other zombies. I didn’t land a critical hit since only parts of its body were charred. I turn around and begin to run again. I could hear the green goo zombie’s crazed screeches and it was probably mad since I ripped its suit up. At this rate, we won’t be able to escape from it. We need to find a place to hide.
I could hear gunshots nearby. If someone has guns then they can give us protection. I take a turn and run towards the area the gunshots were coming from.
The gunshots were coming from the library. I could see a man with black hair and tanned skin, and a man with blond hair and lighter skin shooting the zombies down. The two of them were very accurate with their shots. Every bullet that came out of there pistols would go straight through the brains of a zombie.
The two of them and a few students were protecting the entrance into the library’s basement floor. Just like us, there were other students running towards this place because they heard the gunshots. This place was our last hope of surviving this zombie outbreak.
“It’s coming again.”
Hearing Lisa’s voice I turn around and see the green goo zombie trying to pounce me again. Either it has run out of mana or it just wanted to rip me to shreds with its own hands because it stopped using its magic.
It was mid-jump when I also jump up. My plan was to kill it right here and now so it doesn’t endanger the safe haven in the library.
“Double Launching Fire Blast.”
I jump kick the zombie right in the face before using all of my mana to send the both of us flying through the air. Using a single regular Fire Blast wasn’t going to send people flying so I decided the last bits of my mana to create a stronger version.
We flew 10 feet off of the ground and we were heading towards the library. My aim wasn’t perfect so I don’t know if we were going to land within the safe haven or not. Even if I can’t make it in I can at least throw Lisa in there.
“Whahaha, we’re flying, Jude.”
My vision was starting to turn dark because I depleted all of my mana. Even at this stage, I could hear Lisa’s energetic laughter. She wasn’t scared even though I didn’t warn her what I was going to do. My left arm tightens around her butt and I used my right arm to hold her back. I didn’t want her falling off. My vision grows darker but I struggle to stay awake because we aren’t safe yet.
“Close the door!!! Too many zombies are coming!!!”
“Wait, there are more students to save!”
“Who gives a crap! Are you going to let everyone inside die for a few people.”
They were arguing even though their lives were in danger.
“DON’T CLOSE IT!!!!”
I scream at the top of my lungs to get their attention. I can’t have them closing the door on us before we get inside.
We were rapidly descending, if I’m not careful then Lisa might get injured. I position my body so I’ll be the one who takes the most damage from the fall. This wouldn’t be my first time slamming into the ground so it shouldn’t be that bad.
I wonder if Lisa can hear my heart beating. It’s beating so fast that it might drown out the sound of her own heartbeat. I wonder how long it has been since we first met that green goo zombie at the gym, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, or 30 minutes? I don’t remember but my body is so incredibly tired.
“Brace yourself, Lisa!!”
We’re about to make contact. I hold her tight and protect her head.
I smash into the ground and feel an incredible pain shoot throughout my body. The wind was knocked out of me and I could feel something come out of my mouth, it tasted very irony. Our bodies roll and roll over while I try to keep Lisa as safe as possible. Our momentum finally stops when my back slams into a bookshelf.
“Ahaha, you’re crazy, Jude.”
She was laughing but I could feel that her body was shaking. I was wrong to think that she wasn’t afraid. Everyone’s afraid if they are close to death.
“I-I’m glad you’re safe.”
After speaking, I coughed up more blood. I must have injured something but its fine since Lisa’s in a safe place now. My vision was fading into black and the last thing I heard was Lisa calling out my name.

8 183Iron and Wood - A Tale Of Empire and Clans
For centuries, the Midlands had been split into fragments. A once glorious, united Empire has become a shadow of its former self. Unity has not returned, and not for the lack of trying. The greatest of these successor states were the Li Dynasty to the south, the rulers of old, and the Emerald Empire to the North, with its vibrant vitality. Unity is the end goal, and both will sacrifice anything to attain this elusive dream. For unity would surely solve the conflict that had long plagued this once prosperous continent. The Ironwood Clan was a prime player. Some would consider them the ones holding the reigns to the horse named 'Unification'. Iron and wood were the backbones of civilization; similarly, the Ironwoods were the backbones of the Northern Empire, and by extension, the people of the Midlands. Their methods, as questionable as they might be, had strengthened the North. Yet, were they enough? In the midst of it all, a young Ironwood who had lost his path must once again find his way. For the sake of his own wellbeing; for the sake of his clan; and for the sake of the Empire and its subjects. However, is he willing to sacrifice for the good of all? Is he willing to condemn some for the sake of others? Is he willing to make the right, albeit harsh, decisions? Only the heavens would know. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction.
