《Misadventure of the Goddess of Death》Chapter 1 : Meeting with the Real Deal

Oh, that’s right, I wonder if— wait, what the hell had just happened?

My surrounding changed so fast, to the point that I didn’t even get a chance to react. One moment, I was writing on my diary, and in the next moment, I was surrounded by darkness. No matter how hard I tried to see, even while using various advanced enhanced vision technique and magic, I still couldn’t see anything other than the darkness.

…Don’t tell me, I am already dead?

….

EEEEEEEEEHHHHHHH!?

How could this be!? This was just too sudden! Like, I didn’t even felt any pain or anything. It even had the same sensation as a teleportation. No, that’s not the most important point. How could I still be able to uses the magic and techniques I had? Based on my limited knowledge, upon being dead, the soul of a person would leave his or her body to an unknown place. And the body of that person would became a lifeless corpse.

The result of my research said, the body of a living creature was needed to act as a conductor for that said living creature’s soul to be able to execute any technique. Even the so called ghost was actually a living soul contained in a specter body, and could be killed through the uses of a certain means. I knew it, because I had personally tested that theory before, while also killing a lot of ghost in the process.

Well, my point was, you basically had to have a physical body to be able to use any kind of moves. A body without a soul was basically just a useless and unmoving corpse, and a soul without a body would not be able to remained that long in the living world.

If that’s so, then what about my situation right now? Am I actually still alive, but was teleported to this unknown place? I knew perfectly how strong my soul was actually, so I could said with 100% certainty that there should be no living creature capable to forcibly teleporting me to another place without my consent. Or at least that was the case in the world I was living in the past thousand years.

When I was busy pondering about my situation, I failed to notice that the darkness around me was gradually lessened. I lifted my head and saw that far ahead, there was some kind of source of light. I tried to focus my sight on that object, but all I could see was a blur. It feels like there was something obstructing my vision.

“Might as well…” I muttered under my breath, and began to walk toward that source of light.

The closer I get to that source of light, the more I felt that there was definitely something wrong there. I don’t know what exactly was the thing that made me felt like this, but… it just feels wrong.

Like, it was something that shouldn’t be there. It’s wrong. It shouldn’t even have existed in the first place. It was alive, I could felt it, but at the same time, I felt that it wasn’t a living being.

For the first time ever, the emotion that had been laid dormant in my heart for the past hundred of years, was awakened.

…Fear. Yes, by observing that source of light from quite a distance, I somehow felt afraid. It wasn’t like I lost the ability to fear or whatnot, it was just that in all my life, since I had decided to hunt the other heroes and destroyed a lot of nations, there was absolutely nothing that could made me felt this particular emotion.

Even their so called strongest hero was a joke in front of me. When I copied their ultimate technique after watching them once in a battle, their body would have trembled all over the places. With their confidence shattered, killing them was just like taking a candy from a baby.

However, this… thing, was in a different league.

I steeled myself and kept walking forward. Slowly yet steady, I was getting closer to the source of light. When the distance between us were only 5 meters left, I could clearly see it’s… no, her body.

The light actually came from the body of a young woman. She had a long, straight black hair that covered her most of her face, though I could see that thin and unmoving lips of her. She wore a dirty piece of clothes, like those clothes which the beggars on the city streets usually wore. Her body looked so thin, as if she hasn’t eaten anything for a long time. Her skin was so overly pale, it’s blinding my sight… or it might have been because of the light she emitted from her body.

But what draws my attention the most was, how she was shackled and crucified on this god only knows place. Even so, no matter how unsightly her current appearance was, when I observed her as a whole, she seemed so… divine.

Is she the one whom had previously made me felt afraid?

“Who are you?” I tried to ask her.

No answer.

“Why are you here?” I tried to ask again.

Still no answer.

Somehow, it kind of pisses me off being ignored like that, but maybe she was actually really unable to answer? Maybe she has no more energy to gave a response, what with being shackled and crucified this whole time?

I furrowed my brows and moved closer to her. When I raised my hand in an attempt to move the hair that was covering her face, that woman suddenly jerked her head and looked directly at me.

My body freezes, and our gazes met with each other.

Crap.

A sense of impending doom immediately assaulted me, and I couldn’t help but took a few steps back. Her eyes actually looked normal, yet at the same time, it definitely wasn’t normal. That bright, crimson eyes of hers, seemed to have seen through whatever it was that lies within my heart. I felt as if I was naked in front of her, and that no matter how hard I tried, I still wouldn’t be able to hide even a single secret from her.

I gritted my teeth and steeled myself. I walked backwards no more. Instead, I returned her gaze intently and began to move closer to her once again.

She seemed to have been surprised with my reaction, if those raised eyebrows of hers could be said to be a hint. There seemed to be a hint of amusement on her eyes as she looked at me with a smile.

“That was truly unexpected of you,” she said.

“Wow,” her voice sounded so pleasant to hear that I couldn’t help but exclaimed in amazement.

She lightly chuckled and said in a gentle tone, “Usually, most people would have been blown back for quite a long distance before stopping, yet not only you took a few steps back, you were actually able to move closer to me. Anyway, I have been waiting for a long time for you to come here, Anastasia Lily, the ‘Goddess of Death’ from Earth.”

She knows me!? And not only she knows my name, she also knows my origin!

“Who are you?” I asked her warily. I had knew it from the start, but this woman wasn’t as simple as she seemed… well, her appearance actually couldn’t be called as ‘simple’, but you know what I meant…

“Me?” she paused for a bit and then smiled at me, “I had many different names, but you may call me as ‘Lucia’. Coincidentally, we had the same title.”

Huh? Same title? What title does I have? Wait a minute, don’t tell me…

“In the multiple worlds that existed in this universe, they called me the ‘Goddess of Death.’”
