She flicks a page in her book, glancing towards him out of the corner of her eye. She purses her lips a second later, shaking her head before taking a deep breath.

"Hey." She speaks up, eyes glancing towards him before flitting back towards her book. "... Thanks for the job."

"Nah", came the immediate denial over the counter, quickly followed by the flick of a page and a light hum. "I just told you who's hiring. If you got hired, then that's all on you."

"... Thanks, anyway." She replies, turning another page in her book while letting out a soft sigh. "That's basically all I can say."

"So long as if it gets you off my ass, then everything's good."

She stops reading, glaring at him over the lip of her book. "You're an ass, you know that?"

"Maybe." He admits, "I'm trying to cut it down. You think it's working?"

She stares. "No."

"Kinda expected as much." He grumbles back in response, turning back to his book just as she does the same.

"But you're doing better."

He smiles. A small, little thing that he quickly hid by pushing his book back up his face.

"Thanks."
