《I Am The GUIDE》[Vol.1] 0003: Voice In My Head (1)

"What do I do anyway? I did not listen well. Explain to me in detail."
Daniel answered immediately.
[Granted. Multiple worlds have been created trillions of years ago and every dimension has beings living in it. However, these worlds are beginning to collapse. These beings residing in the world have begun to get influence by evil nature and only a few beings with good nature are left. Even most 'Heroes' are corrupt.]
"Well, people are selfish. It isn't really a bad thing?"
Back on Earth, although Reece knows well his family is not composed of bad people doing illegal things, they are not particularly good either. They do dirty things too, only if needed. No one is truly worthy of being called good and pure. Everyone has to do everything by any means to survive.
[For the worlds with inhuman prowess, it is. They could destroy even your world if they begin corrupting the Gods, the Goddesses, and the Devils and Demons. If that befalls, there is no hope for survival, which is why the Lord is giving its all to avoid that to happen.]
As everyone was located in the same universe with the same gods, goddesses, devils, and demons overseeing everything—if they are to be corrupted as well, who will stop them? They are the creators, a mere Hero is useless when that scenario arrives.
"... So it is that bad huh."
[Of course.]
Moreover, if he were to fail to fulfill his purpose, what will happen to his family back on Earth?
No, what will happen to the Earth once everything begins to mess up?
Could his family live in a different dimension if he takes them with him?
However, Reece is already dead, so he cannot involve himself with anyone he once knew.
'This is awful. Technology can't fight against real power.'
The situation is dire.
If you compare cannons, tanks, nuclear bombs, and an army of millions to a sole magician who could ignite the fire at the same level of heat as a volcano or worst, the sun—who do you think will win? Bullets who were faster or fire who were bigger and more powerful?
The answer is pretty much the obvious.
That means Earth is doomed if that happens. It is indeed a critical situation. Reece was starting to get worried. Somehow, after having an easy life, a difficult one follows. And here he was, hoping to take it leisurely.
'My role was not so simple and light after all.'
Reece sighs as he pondered on what is the best course of action under these severe circumstances. Surely, he could not back out as he was specifically 'picked' for this job.

'Why does it have to be me?'
Reece wanted to grieve in complaint.
Just why, why someone like him, has to capture the attention of a god?
'Does being lazy to that extent interest them?'
[...]
Reece spoke again after a moment of silence.
"Why now? You did mention that everything is turning ugly but surely, you guys should have already noticed it like, thousand years ago?"
Why did they wait this long when it is turning severe rather than take action when corruption began appearing? Reece was now certain that Gods truly are lazy creatures who did nothing but passed down their difficulty however they like to whomever they want.
[It has to be now.]
"But my question is why? Is there a certain reason?"
[Correct. Yet, you do not hold the authority to know. Why do you not perform your duty first?]
Reece paused at what he just heard.
Honestly, he was confident the voice sounded sarcastic.
"You are a rude one."
[Do you have any more questions?]
More questions? Reece was aware that what information Daniel could tell him has certain limitations and restrictions. Furthermore, most of Reece's questions are connected to his former life. Clearly, Daniel will not be able to help him.
Reece looks up as he stares at the vast sky before thoughtlessly blurted out.
"Perhaps, can I fly? Flying must be nice."
[Negative. Flying and floating are two different things. You could only float but not fly in your current form. Though you could if you shifted to one of your natural forms.]
"Natural forms?"
It catches Reece's attention.
Natural forms are what Daniel stated. Forms. It was plural, which means Reece has multiple forms and could choose not only one. Being a human was nice, but Reece wanted to try something new for once.
[Correct. As you are currently a 'Spirit,' you could decide whether you covet the appearance of a 'Fairy' or a 'Guardian.']
According to Daniel, spirits could take as many appearances as they wanted. They do not possess a material body and are only composed of pure life force, which means they do not have actual features.
Reece thought that this must be the reason why most nonhumans seem breathtakingly beautiful. Because they could always alter their appearance.
"However, what is a guardian? Are they similar to me?"
[Wrong. 'Guardians' and 'Guides' are two separate beings. You are chosen by the Lord and they are not.]
"Heh... so what are they?"
[Spirit Guardians. They take the form of animals and could form a contract with their chosen contractor. As they do not have a physical body and unlike you, they could not touch physically. Without a body, they would not be able to use the fullest of their abilities, which is why they needed contractors to fuse or act as their corporal body.]

So the guardian category is something that gave Reece multiple choice when it comes to his form.
In addition to humanoid appearances, he could imitate the real Spirit Guardian that most beings summon to form a contract with. Real guardian, because Reece was not a guardian but could still copy their appearances.
[Reminder. You could not copy their abilities and specialties.]
Already expecting that, Reece did not try to argue as he asks another question.
"Yet why are they called guardians?"
[Why else? It is because they are a defender and protector. They defend and protect the creatures that summon them in exchange for their power. Moreover, they are called 'Spirits' when not under a contract and have yet acquired the title of a 'Guardian.']
It means that 'Spirit Guardian' is actually a title only granted to those who entered a contract. And all the spirits who are yet in a contract are potential guardians.
"Could I not make my own form? There is no need to copying when I can."
If given a chance, Reece wanted to take the form of a dragon or a wyvern considering how majestic and intimidating they appear to everyone. Too bad he could not own their abilities though or it would have been perfect.
[Declined. If you generate a dissimilar form that does not belong to this dimension, those who you will meet in the future will naturally become interested and try to capture you instead. Including those who are on the list.]
Perhaps he could claim that he is a newborn spirit someplace and is left to wander? Surely, it will be enough excuse.
[Wrong. 'Spirit Guardians' do not give birth so it is impossible to claim that you are a newborn someplace. Furthermore, spirits are born from the sacred 'World Tree' in the 'Elvin World' which you do not have the right to access. In addition, spirits could not leave the Elvin World unless they are summoned on the surface.]
Daniel knew what exactly Reece was thinking about. However, Daniel has a point.
As Reece was currently in was a trillion or more years old world, which means most creatures that live there were already familiar with all the Spirit Guardians that belong to this world.
Besides, not all beings he has to guide has a good heart. He was a designated 'Guide' for a reason. A guide that 'leads' everyone to the 'right path.' It only signifies that they are currently not in good condition and Reece as a spirit may rather end up as prey.
"Is that so? However, why are you allowing me to take the form of a guardian if it is dangerous to wander without a contractor?"
Moreover, it was stated that Spirit Guardians do not wander around without a contractor, which means that Reece could not roam around while on a guardian form.
Could it be that Daniel does not like him and is already planning on murdering him?
Chills.
Reece felt the chills.
[I did not say immediately. I was merely suggesting and informing you.]
"You mean, you will only allow me to imitate a guardian once you confirmed it is safe?"
[Yes.]
"Ah."
If Reece came in contact with the first one on the list, maybe he could make a deal with him/her and act as its guardian. That way, he will be free from hiding.
[However, you must be careful. This world has hunters who hunt 'Spirit Guardians' to incorporate. It makes them powerful and a soul as pure as yours is their most favorite.]
Then he could still be killed after dying once. Reece felt the chills all over his body once again.
'Am I going to be double-ended?'
Not to mention hunters, as Reece believes, are more muscular and scary-looking.
Originally, he was only a coward when it comes to insects, however, he now has trauma with humans who possess huge bodies, multiple huge scares, and scary faces. He died by the hands with a similar appearance after all. He does not want to meet one.
"Oh. That is indeed very dangerous. Hmm, very dangerous."
Reece looks up, wondering.
"Say, could I possess a material body perhaps instead of imitating guardians or fairies?"
That way, it is safer for Reece. And if he could, it is better to hide within the societies and adapt to their environment before making firm decisions.
Reece might regret it if he acts hastily. He does not want to end up dead once anew.
[That is right. However, if you wanted to possess a body similar to a human, the creature has to die first.]
Reece paused for a moment before continuing.
"Hmmm... it is quite disturbing that the body I've to occupy has to be dead."
Who the hell wants to maneuver a dead body?
[It is due to two conscious souls unable to occupy one same body.]
"I guess I don't really have much of a choice."
