《Rise Of The Elf Demon Lord》Chapter 8: The Inn!

Two horses, black and brown galloped down the road with the brown one leading the way. Moving so fast, that even if their riders – Li Wei and Xie Nie turned their heads to either left or to the right, they would only see a blur and nothing more.
Time passed and the sun disappeared from the sky but the moon couldn't be seen as it was blocked by the thick clouds that shrouded the sky. "The city is about a few hundred meters away," Li Wei thought and spurred the horse. The horse let out a whiny sound and got a little faster, creating some distance between her and Xie Nie.
Xie Nie seeing that the gap between her and Li Wei widened, spurred her horse; it made the same sound and the gap returned to what it was.
Travelling another hundred meters, Li Wei the rider of the brown horse shouted out, "Let's slow down!" and pulled the reins.
"Yes!" Xie Nie replied with a shout of her own and pulled the reins as well.
The two horses slowed down and they were now only seventy meters away from the city. Looking from this distance, Li Wei didn't see much, only three bright lights. One light was sixty meters away while the other two were seventy meters away with some distance between them.
"If I have to guess, those two lights must be the guards standing by the gates and that closer one maybe a stable?" Li Wei thought and stopped her horse completely. Xie Nie stopped her horse after Li Wei did.
"If that closer flame is indeed a stable than these horses may be from that stable… I should get rid of them to avoid any unnecessary trouble… I wonder," Li Wei thought and jumped off her horse. She looked at Xie Nie and their eyes met, "Can you devour these horses?"
Xie Nie's eyes lit up and she nodded excitedly, "I can!" she jumped off her horse, "Can I?!"
"Hmm? You want to devour them?" Li Wei asked slightly surprised.
"Yes, I do!" she said with excitement in her voice.
"Why? Didn't you say that you don't need to eat?" Li Wei said and thought, "Is it her instinct as a slime talking?"

"I don't need to eat to survive but I want to eat everything, I haven't eaten before!"
"Want to eat everything that you haven't eaten before?... Is it instinct based and is programmed into slimes as a species or is it something she decided herself and does it have any benefit for her outside of upgrading into an elite… but wait a minute if she wants to eat everything then why…" Li Wei thought and said, "Then what about the bread, didn't you want to devour it?"
"A test?!" Xie Nie thought and immediately shook her head, "I didn't! I am not like those slimes that couldn't be a part of demon lord's armies!"
Li Wei narrowed her eyes, "Then tell me how are you different from the other slimes?"
Xie Nie nodded firmly, "The reason why for the first time in eight hundred thousands years, a demon lord has allowed a slime into his army and to the rank of general no less is that I crave to devour all other living beings. Unlike the other slimes that only crave grass and plants."
"Devour the horses," Li Wei said and thought, "So other slimes only want to devour plants? Is my slime a unique slime? I wonder if upgrading a normal slime into elite would have been easier…"
Xie Nie nodded, "Yes!" She first looked at the black horse, raised her right arm and from it – goo expunged out, quickly enveloping the entire horse. The horse screamed out but it was muffled by the goo, barely making any noise.
"Oh? She created a skill?" Li Wei thought.
Xie Nie moved her eyes to the other horse but then she sighed, she moved her eyes to Li Wei and she remembered the order she received a few moments before. She moved her eyes to the second horse and quickly devoured it, but no notification flashed.
Li Wei nodded, "Let's go," she said and thought, "I will look at that skill later once I enter the city and rent a room in the inn."
"Yes, Li Wei."
Once they were ten meters away, the two guards with torches in their hands saw the elf and young girl slowly approaching them and they both stared at Li Wei with surprised expressions as she was the most beautiful elf they ever saw. Even Vartys of the hero's party that they saw a few times was not this elf's match even if Vartys had bigger breasts and butt.

Li Wei walked right past the stables as she had no business there and walked up to one of the two guards, "Excuse me," she said.
The guard only gulped down his saliva, he didn't think that the goddess elf would come and talk to him, he just assumed she would just pass him and go inside the city. The other guard seeing this widened his eyes and he ran up to them.
Li Wei frowned, "Excuse me!"
The second guard who ran up to them said, "How can I help you two in this dark hour?" Xie Nie looked at the two humans but said nothing.
Li Wei turned her head to him, "I want to ask a few questions."
"Please ask away!"
"Is there an adventurer guild inside the city and if there is then where? Also, where can I find the inn?"
"After entering the city, just go in a straight line and you will reach the adventurer's guild as for the inn, it's midway to the adventurer's guild to the right."
Li Wei smiled and nodded, "Thank you," she walked through the city gates with Xie Nie and the two guards were left to themselves. The first guard that was frozen stiff looked into the sky and said, "I can die happy. A goddess talked to me."
The second guard smirked, "She may have talked to you but we had a conversation and she smiled at me. So I can die happier!"
…
Entering the city, Li Wei saw that the city was built in pre-Romanesque architecture but she didn't care much about it and said, "Let's find the inn, hopefully, it's not closed."
Xie Nie nodded, "Yeah."
The two quickly found the inn in the place the guard told them it would be and they entered inside. Inside they only saw a single person. The person was an old lady and she was wiping one of the tables with a cloth. The woman turned her head in the direction of the two and a surprised expression appeared on her face but it then returned to normal, "How can I help you two?"
"We want a room with two beds and maybe some food as well if it's possible," Li Wei said.
The old woman nodded, let go of cloth and walked to the counter; Li Wei with Xie Nie followed her. The woman pulled out a key, "It's four copper for a single night and two portions would add another 4 copper. Do you want me to open a tab for you?"
Li Wei shook her head, "No need," she opened the system and from her inventory, retrieved 8 copper coins from her 50 silver and placed it on the table.
The old woman nodded, took the money and passed her the key, "Room 206, I will have someone bring you the food. Have a good rest you two."
Li Wei took the key and nodded and walked away from the counter with Xie Nie ascended to the second floor. They entered their room and Li Wei locked the door. She sat down on one bad, "The other one is yours."
Xie Nie nodded.
Li Wei looked into Xie Nie's eyes, "Besides devouring do you want to do anything else?"
Xie Nie tilted her head and then shook her head, "As long as I can serve you, the demon king and devour. I think I will be very happy."
Li Wei nodded, "I see."
A knock on the door sounded.
"Xie Nie, I retract the first rule I set for you, you can talk to others if you want to," Li Wei said and thought, "The more rules I impose on her the harder it will be to forge a relationship."
Xie Nie slowly nodded, "Yes..."
Li Wei jumped off the bed, walked up to the door and unlocked it. Opening it, she saw a young girl of around ten years old, holding a wooden board on which laid two wooden bowls, a metal spoon, a metal fork and a metal knife.

Are we talking about the same planet? (Reader discretion is advised; Contains Graphic Language and Potentially Excessive Swearing) *¹ Carioca = demonym of someone from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. *² humble and/or hardworking Cariocas = not necessarily mythics, ordinary ones actually exist. *³ precious = inasmuch every living planet is precious. Editor's Note: Someone disable his permission to edit the draft on UnityDocs, please! Hello, I'm McKing and I aim to write an original story with elements I've never seen put together before. Feel free to point out any mistakes you see — I'm not a native speaker, so I'm sure a few will pass me by. Sci-fi; Humor; (Brazilian) Urban Fantasy; faint shades of LitRPG. **Be warned it has a bit of an (absurd) slice-of-life beginning though the story is being subtly (I hope) worked on and eventually shifts gears (a bit). I planned to say that from the beginning, but I forgot to add it.** I hope that you enjoy it and that I can grow as a writer with your contributions. No Fixed Update Schedule. My inspiration comes in bursts and so will the Chapters. Sorry if that displeases you (I love regular updates too), but I'm afraid that's the best I can do for now. Keep in mind that it is a work in progress and things can eventually change a bit - I'll try to always note the changes. Sorry for the bad cover, it was the best my sorry skills could do! I hope you enjoy it,Mcking

A Portal Fantasy Comedy Poem
Mix an adolescent shepherd boy in love with a girl who wants to meet existentialists, a Viscount in need of an adventure, and a bland psychic. Add in a flippant god. Put them in a land made up of the after-lives of various different cultures. Stir gently. Sprinkle in some random Midgard Serpent, Genghis Khan, Scheherazade, and a cussing mocking bird. Fry lightly. Season to taste and serve with desired garnishes. Bon apetit! A comic fantasy poetic epic, filled with misfits, slapstick routines, light romance, people shouting out the names of their battle skills before using them, old philosopher dudes running around naked, a very serious lamb, demonic knitting, battery operated magic swords and even more traumatising stuff! I experimented with different styles in the beginning and finally settled on an ABABBCBC rhyme scheme (Give me your 0.5s. Gimme, gimme, gimme. I'm collecting them, seriously)
