《PERCEPTION (A New Begining)》99. Hit The Roof

Red smiled, "Good, I'm glad she's able to see her again."
"Are you serious, you think that's her actual mother? Look at her, if she had hair she would look like a tall Pocahontas... And Carnie, well, she looks like she hasn't even seen a native American before."
"All I know is she would never call anyone mom other than her mother, so if she did call her that then that's definitely who she is. I say we stay here and let them have their moment together."
As we spoke a third voice interrupted, "WHAT, HAVE, YOU, DONE!" The voice sounded slightly different from when it was played through the speakers but it was still unmistakable. I'm the first to react, I step forward and use the power to launch my knife at the Warden, or rather, that's what I wanted to do. After only taking one step I felt a vibration on my neck and it caused me to halt. If she initiates the shock and I kill her there's no one to turn it off so I would likely die.
Red seemed to be ready to do what I tried but the Warden spoke before she moved, "If you attack me he'll be dead before you touch me." Red looked at me, her eyes stopping on my collar for a second before returning to the Warden. She was holding herself up with the doorframe, her side bloody and her hand keeping pressure on what looked to be a serious wound.
"You don't look so good, Warden."
She coughed, spraying the tiles by her feet with blood. "What have you done, why would you open up all the cells! They at least had a chance before."
"The hell are you talking about?"
"EVERYONE! He might not have been able to get through the doors, but with them out of the way, he'll slaughter everyone... No, maybe, he might stop when he finds you."

"Whoever that guy is, he doesn't have anything to do with me."
"You're wrong about tha-" Her hand slipped off the frame and she dropped to the floor with what looked to be a small remote of some kind sliding away from her. While I was focused on the remote, Red used this chance to rip off my collar. We now stood over the Warden as she laid on the ground with only a sliver of life left, the fall must have taken the last of her strength. She looked at me, "Letting them bring you here...was the worst decision I have ever made."
I dropped to my knees, slapping the Warden's face, "Hey, don't die bitch, hey, tell me everything you know about John, HEY!" Dammit, even in her death she was a bitch. After giving her a solid punch to the face to confirm it, I stood up.
"Do you know what she was talking about?"
"Honestly, no, but I have a feeling we need to get out of here as..." She said he would slaughter everyone, she was obviously talking about the intruder so there's a serious chance he really will kill everyone, or at least that's what the Warden thought. As much as I hate the bitch she wasn't stupid. "We can't leave Wayne here. WIth this bitch dead everything changes. Our escape is almost certain without her in the way so we can afford to get him, I'm sure of it."
"If that's what you want to do, then we'll do it. I don't like the idea of leaving the defenseless puppy behind either."
"Thanks, Red, but what about Carnie? Don't you want to go with her?"
"You saw what I saw, if that's what her mom is capable of then between the two of them they shouldn't have any problems."

"What makes you think he'll still be in his room?"
"Well, he's Wayne." Though Red may have known him longer than me, she doesn't know him as well as I do.
"We could get there a lot faster if I carried you."
"I have no doubt we would, but, I prefer to be in control of my body." The feeling of being locked in place isn't one I'm eager to experience again.
Finally, we're here. I sling open the cracked door.
"Tom, thank goodness, I was worried you were off doing something stupid and got shot, she did say they would use lethal force! Hurry up, if you get to your room they might not notice."
"The Warden is dead Wayne, there's an intruder that's killing everyone, your coming with us, were escaping."
Wayne stayed seated on his bed, his eyes were jumping all over the place as if to display how hard his mind was working to process all the information. "How do you know, who did it?"
"We saw her with our own eyes, she must have been wounded by the intruder. I would love to explain everything to you but we need to move!"
"But?"
"NOW! Red, do the thing." She walked over to Wayne and grabbed his arm, a second later she lifted his body up by that same arm and placed his hand on her shoulder, he remained in a seated position the whole time. "Sorry Wayne, but you'll just have to deal with that for now."
Where should we go from here? We could try and meet back up with Carnie, if we go back to the Warden's room we should be able to find them easily. No, I have to get Wayne out of here first. He has to be safe, then we can come back for Carnie if they aren't already out yet. The fastest way to get out of here... "Red, we're going to the courtyard!" She nodded and we began running through the halls.
Bursting through the doors to the courtyard we look around, there's no one. Fuck it, that just works better for us, "Red." I wrap my arms around her and she looks at me curiously, "Jump."
I can see the realization come across her face and she wraps her arms around me. In an instant, the wind is ripping past my ears and I can see the whole facility, but it doesn't even grab my attention at all. I was already focused on something, the entire area around the facility.
We land on the roof of the facility and she sets me down and releases her control of Wayne. Though we face each other we're staring past one another. I can only assume she is as surprised as I am. The entire biome around this facility can only be described as barren. No plants, animals, insects, water, nothing. The only thing in our view was mountains a way out. These mountains had huge portions missing, as if someone had taken a giant spoon and gouged them out.
"Where the hell are we?"
"Tom, someones already up here." Red whispered into my ear, her voice filled with caution.
I whipped around to see a man standing about a hundred feet away from us. No, not a man, more like a young adult. Something about him makes it hard to call him a man. He stares at us, me, for a few seconds before putting his hand to his ear. Despite the distance between us, we heard his voice clearly, "T, I found him."

Now if this change was a good or bad thing, he didn't know. But there was one thing Jacob knew for certain. He didn't have to mop the floors anymore. Author's Note: (This is my first story, and I would be very thankful if grammatical errors were pointed out. I could also take a few suggestions in the comments if you would. This is less a planned production, and more a little project that I'm winging as it goes. I will try and be consistent with at least 2 chapters a week. Also, as I am a completely new author, the number of words per chapter may fluctuate. The minimum will be around 1000 words, while other chapters may be 2000-3000. It will hopefully only get better with time.)

LiMB: ZERO DARK ASCENSION ARMA
LiMB is a work of fiction inspired by webnovels such as "Re:Zero - Starting life in another world" and visual novels such as "Fate/Stay night" or "Sengoku Rance". Not unlike a visual novel LiMB has two main routes branching out from the the first chapter, with additional routes being added as the story progresses. There are also "ending routes", spinoffs or dead-ends that still need to be told. There is no recommended reading order, although a chapter in one path may shed light on another. When a choice appears in a chapter that choice will be branded as (R1), (R2) or (SR) for a special offshot ending. I hope you will enjoy this, more art will be added along the way // grunt
