《PERCEPTION (A New Begining)》97. Crackin' Skulls

For a moment both froze in silence, glancing at each other, fear taking over their faces.
"Why are you?" Carnie spoke unable to deny the curiosity their sudden action had caused.
It wasn't long after that it happened, ice. It incased Red, spikes protruding out of the back of Red's encasement and stabbing into Carnie. Even with icicles impaling her body she held on to the boy she had against the wall, but it turned out to be in vain. Her once solid grip on his shoulders turned into handfuls of skin. It was an unusual and grotesque sight to witness someone's skin stretch and expand to such a degree. I knew that's what must have happened to his shoulders because his face turned into that of a bulldog, wrinkles sprouting up on wrinkles.
I had seen the ice expanding and quickly realized it wasn't like his previous attacks, unlike the shards he had been shooting at Red, this time I could see ice crystals forming all around Red so I was able to get out of the way in time. The ice-creator fell to his knees the instant the ice stopped forming.
He took labored breaths before shouting, "I'm sorry!" His back grew smaller as he ran off into the distance. Deciding not to chase after him I turned my attention towards the other one who had just slipped out of Carnie's grasp. Swinging my Chain in a wide ark I caught his leg as he tried to escape, he hit the floor headfirst.
Man, I was trying to get both his legs but only caught one, well, it worked in the end. Why were they so freaked out when they found out my name, and what kind of ability is stretchy skin?
Carnie pulled herself off the icicles, her wounds starting to close as her feet hit the floor. Following her, hundreds of ice shards hit the floor as well, a result of Red smashing her way out of the ice tomb. She walked over to me as I was unwrapping my chain from around the boy's leg.

"So that's not for show, is it, I was wondering what the fuck it was."
"It's what I had planned to take Angel down with. I guess you could say it's for show though, these are supposed to be knives but, of course, the Warden wouldn't let me have that so they're dull."
"Let me see it then."
"Huh, why?" I asked as I handed it over to her. She proceeded to pinch the dull edge of the knife, running her fingers along the whole length of the blade and then repeating it with the other knife.
"There, now it's sharp, somewhat."
Holy shit, it really is. It's not incredibly sharp, but when compared to the dull, rounded edge that it had previously it might as well have been a razor blade. "Amazing."
"Is that son-of-a-bitch awake?"
"No, he's out cold Carnie."
She walked over beside Red and me and gave him one good kick in the side. "Calm down, with your power you could kill him!"
"Shut up, I was just confirming that he was out. If I wanted to kill him I would stand on his fucking throat so he'll never wake up. Do you know him or something, you had to notice his reaction?"
"No, I don't know him but you're right. He definitely knew me, but not my face, just my name."
"Yeah, if he watched your matches it should be the opposite, so that means he doesn't know you from your fights."
"He'll probably be out for a while so let's just move on."
"Carnie, what's the plan??"
"I just, need a couple more agents."
Dammit, she still doesn't have one... What is this?
Further down the hall, something was coming into view, a lot of somethings. Bodies laid everywhere, both agents and kids alike. The only difference between them was the damage done to their bodies. While the kids hand a single gunshot wound or slit throat, the agents looked like they had gone through a blender! Their suits were indistinguishable from rags, their bodies beaten, swollen, and discarded.

CRUNCH! Carnie wasted no time cracking open skulls, digging through flesh and tossing it to the side, and then chowing down.
"She seems to be a little too good at this," I whispered to Red while Carnie let out moans of pleasure as she chewed and swallowed the brain matter. "And enjoying it a little too much."
"She did always say that part was one of her favorites... I always thought she was joking..."
She moved from one to another, to another. I began to dread the sound of the skull cracking open, it was a surprisingly hollow sound that kept echoing in my ears long after she had opened one up.
"(Click) Thomas! Why have you come to this facility! Do you even know what you're doing?" The Warden's voice boomed louder and with more emotion than ever before.
"Shit, she's on to us!"
"It didn't sound like she was talking to you."
"(Click) We work for the same person! There's no way they sent you to take out this facility so WHY?"
"I think your right Red. It must be the intruder, guess we'll just ignore her for now."
"We definitely know where that person is at now. The call came from that direction, the same one Carnie had us avoid."
A deafening explosion rang out as causing my perception to ramp up, and I watched as something hit Carnie with enough force to throw her to the side. The unmistakable sound of a shotgun cocking followed.
"Fuck, get down!" I yelled to Red but it was unnecessary because her hand was already slamming into me, she had spotted the agent at an intersection of the halls a few rooms down too. I slammed into the wall as I watched small pellets bounce off of Red and land on the floor.
Fuck they're using live ammunition on us? This was the first time I had seen an agent with a real gun, let alone a shotgun.
Red took off towards the agent as shot after shot hit her. Reaching Carnie she grabbed the top half of a skull while shielding her. Using it like a frisbee she threw the piece of skull at the agent, striking him in the hand supporting the weight of the gun. If fell, letting off a shot that ricochets off the floor and hit him.
Not waisting the opening I charged at him to get with range. Once within, I launched my chain with all the force I could muster. It stabbed into his abdomen as I closed the distance and placed the other knife in his throat with a twist.
"Is she alright?"
"She should be fine, it will just take a second to heal."

At The Precipice
Defenseless. Scared. Alone. That describes the life of Brock Carter as of late. Following his ‘death’ at the hands of a vicious magpie, Brock is rescued by the machinations of the newly instated, all-powerful System and thrust knee-deep into a brutal world catered only to the strong. Fluctuating between two states of being and trapped within a city ravaged by time, he is told to either seek out the mysterious ‘Source’, or die trying. He just hopes he can do it without scuffing his expensive suit in the process. ***** Honestly, I've just always wanted to write a story. I had a crack at it a few years back, but the entire thing fell apart before it even began. At The Precipice was originally written as a way for me to destress and play with System elements and characters, but eventually I decided that if I was gonna write, why not post it too? Writing's just a hobby of mine, so don't expect this to be at published novel level, I guess, or even anything of relative polish. Updates every Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri Average chapter length is 2000 - 3000 words ***** What to expect: - A semi-comedic/light tone, mixed in with a gritty world and brutal survival (not ever grimdark though) - An MC that thinks about what he's going to do and why he'll do it, even if his internal logic is lacking. Is a rather rational person, not often influenced by his emotions, but can be in extreme situations. - A plot heavily focused upon the MC, but one that will branch off to envelope the other characters in the world at times. Often, it's just other people's perspectives of him. - A story of power growth. While the MC is certainly going to be powerful, even over 100 chapters in from what I've written, he still isn't the strongest being on Earth, let alone the entire Multiverse. - Lots of gore, vivid fight descriptions, and often times deaths of people, some even somewhat important to the story ***** Things this story will never have: - Harems - An edgy, villainous MC - An MC that does jackshit about things for 'plot reasons'

The Nightcore Trilogy
Going to space was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime, but for Reece Danielson and his crew, it was only the beginning. As the fresh astronauts aboard the Zhengzhou International Space Station start their on-the-job training, Reece is shown a discovery that changes his entire worldview. It isn’t long before a tragic accident aboard the station sets off a series of events that not only puts the crew in danger but at odds with each other. The events quickly escalate into a man-made apocalyptic incident on the surface of the planet. A virulent plague is prematurely released which transforms everyone into flesh-eating undead, and that is only the beginning of the troubles. There are far worse things down there than zombies and possibly a few of them lurk on the station itself. The Nightcore Trilogy thematically begins with a heavy sci-fi feel coupled to a gritty space-based horror mystery. The story's layers are slowly peeled back, evolving into something much more supernatural, mythological, and high-fantasy-based. It's a mix of elements from survival horror, zombie apocalypses, ancient mythologies, supernatural stories, and harem anime. It contains semi-descriptive sex scenes (traditional and non-traditional), descriptions of gore, profanity, and adult situations, so I recommend it for mature and open-minded audiences only.
