《PERCEPTION (A New Begining)》83. The Number One

Fuck, fuck FUCK!
The ceiling is at least three stories high, if not more. I don't know if I can roll out of a fall this high. Maybe if I had more forward momentum, but right now the only momentum I have is going straight down. Can I roll out of this? How the hell did this even happen?!
Looking back up as I fell I saw the person who had been holding me, he was just floating in the air, unaffected by gravity. I've never even seen him before! As I stared at him I watch his expression change to surprise. Ho-ly shit!
The way he moved through the air is something I have only ever seen in my imagination, but that isn't what surprised me. I felt arms wrap around me as I watch a weight rack slam into the ceiling with such force it dug into it, holding itself there as my trajectory changed and I began to move sideways through the air. I didn't even have to look to know who it was that was holding me. We flew across the room and she slammed into a wall, feet first, killing her momentum. After making contact she pushed us away from the wall and we landed on the ground.
Ow! The hell did she drop me for? Red stepped over me as I lifted myself up off the ground. When I stood up I was behind her and she stood like a wall protecting me. Scanning the room I saw Wayne taking cover behind Red's punching bag. Why isn't everyone running out? Every time something has happened they always bailout, so why?
"The fuck are you doing Angel? If you want a fight I'm right here!"
"Red, protecting someone? Now I'm definitely interested."
"He was just in my way, now what the fuck do you want."
"No, I think you know I'm here for him, and why."
"Angel stand down."
"Don't worry Warden, I just wanted to see it for myself. I won't take any further action. May I suggest that your orders are a little more thought out in the future so a misunderstanding like this doesn't happen again."

"Misunderstanding?"
"I had planned to just pick him up but you asked me to let go of him which led to me dropping him. I apologize I was only trying to follow your orders."
He shot down to the ground faster than I had when I was falling. His body stopped just before his feet hit the ground, he then stepped out of the air and onto the ground. Red stepped towards him but he didn't seem affected.
"Calm down Red, I don't plan to do anything... Unless the Warden orders it, of course."
Red continues to move towards him as the Warden spoke quickly.
"Red, stand down. There is no reason to continue this, it's over."
Red stops and looks at her shoulder, surprised by my hand which rested on it. I step up beside her and look at the person they keep calling Angel.
"Who are you?"
"Who am I? All you need to know is that you're below me and that will never change."
He's a little taller than me but is clearly smaller muscle-wise. I shouldn't have a problem hurting him if I can get a hold of him. Looking over his shoulder and towards Red's punching bag I see Wayne shaking his head at me pleadingly. So for whatever reason Wayne doesn't think I'll be able to take him. I guess it wouldn't benefit me much to fight him here, but, it would be nice to get back at him for that sneak attack.
He looks past me and to Red, "I had heard there was a guy you took a liking to but I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it myself. Too bad no one could ever feel the same about you."
I couldn't help but look at him in confusion, why wouldn't anyone like her? Look at her! Lean, fit, strong, legs for days, and I don't even have to mention her ass. The only negative she's got is her attitude but I think even that has its own appeal.

He looked at my confused face in shock, "Not possible, you actually?... What is wrong with you?" His whole body slid to the side without his legs moving at all and as he did I saw a fist shoot towards him. Red missed him, but only barely
"Angel, your room."
"As you wish, Warden."
He flew over us and out of the room immediately. Everyone was frozen, waiting to see how Red would react. Normally the people in the training room wouldn't have been able to hear our conversation but since that Angel guy entered the room everyone was completely silent. This meant that everyone heard what he had said about Red, and they were obviously frozen in fear after he left because of how Red might react.
"Red, please. Don't do anything rash."
A second later I heard what I least expected, "Like I'd care."
After that everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief. Despite this the bitch in a box still had a slightly eager tone, "Everyone, leave the training room." After she spoke everyone calmly got up and left the room, probably relieved nothing too crazy happened. Red did not attempt to move and the bitch in a box didn't say anything so I stayed with her. After everyone had left, besides her, Wayne, and me, I decided to say something to Wayne who was now standing next to me.
"She took that well."
"I think we should leave man."
"What, why?"
Wayne grabs my arm and walks me out, "Just trust me, man!"
After getting a few feet away from the training room a loud crashing sound came from behind us causing a reflexive duck from us. I turned to look back but Wayne continued to push me down the hall.
"Don't even think about it."
The sound came again, and again, somehow getting louder despite our growing distance to it.
"So who the fuck was that guy?"
"Number one, Angel. I figured this would happen but not this soon. Which I guess I would have been right if it weren't for Red liking you."
"Wait, that scrawny little guy is the number one?"
"You've been around Jason too much. He's not scrawny, y'all are just big, and yes he is number one. Out of all the people here, his ability is the most well-known."
"Really? Is that all he can do, fly?"
"Did you really just say 'is that all?" He can FLY! You know, like a damn god."
"Is it that impressive? That was one of the first abilities I thought about when I realized there were more people with all kinds of abilities. I thought a lot of people would be able to do it."
"Sure, other people can use their abilities to kinda fly, but he can actually fly. As high as he wants, as fast as he wants, and as far as he wants. How is that not impressive? It's like we live in 2D and can only touch 3D, but he lives in it!"
"Is it really that troublesome? Wouldn't he just run away? He isn't strong so he can't hurt someone like Red."
"More like she can't hurt him."
"So they have fought?"
"Yeah."
"And he won???" Wayne nodded in confirmation, "HOW?!"
"She couldn't touch him. Whenever she tried she was grabbed out of the air and dropped from the top of the arena."
"But she's Red?"
"She's not invincible. Everyone's ability has its limits."
"Even hers, what is it?"
"Hard to tell. It could have been the amount of damage she took, it could have been how long the fight lasted. Either way, the last fall she was dropped on her head. She didn't move after that."
I thought Red was invincible, to think someone actually hurt her. It makes me mad. Wait... "You really think Red likes me?"

After getting a hold of some–ironically–fire magic, Mateo had all the tools he needed to get back to his family. He just had to learn how to not die first.
