《PERCEPTION (A New Begining)》69. She's Called Carnie For a Reason...

I can feel the floor sliding across my fingertips, it runs down the back of my legs too. At first, I had fought but now I'm completely limp and in genuine awe of the comedic nature this has. I'm now being dragged across the floor by a girl who is only two-thirds of my height. As I glide across the floor with no hope of escaping I have no choice but to listen to her as she talks to herself.
"I bet I could get Red in on this! I don't know if she would do it though, she might not want to hurt you. Oooo I know, I'll just ask her to do it and if she refuses I'll say it's because she likes you. Then she'll be forced to do it, he-he. I'm getting first dibs though, I can't pass up a chance to get a taste of you!"
I'm not even sure if she is joking, I can only hope she doesn't plan to eat me. If it were anyone else I wouldn't think it even a possibility but with her, it's not only possible, it might be plausible.
Finally, we come to a stop, no I'm still moving, but...
I get slung from the entrance of the training room, all the way over to the mat without ever leaving the floor. I crash into the side of it and expertly roll up onto it and look back at Carnie.
"You know I could have walked here."
"But where's the fun in that?"
I have no idea if she's fucking with me or being serious.
"Now take off that shirt for me."
"What, why?"
"Gives me something to look at."
"No."
"Ahhh, stop being a bitch! It will make it harder for me to grab you which in turn makes it easier for you to dodge, and, it will just get shredded for no reason if you keep it on."
Wow... I didn't expect her to actually have reasons. Still, I'm not into the idea. Despite her sexually explicit language and attitude there really isn't anything sexual about her. For one, she's got to be around fifteen max and looks the part of someone even younger. Even if you take away that fact, her gaze. It's the gaze of someone looking at something to eat, in the literal sense. It's extremely unsettling if only because of the fact that I've never experienced it turned towards me before.

"There you go! Wo, woohoo!"
After taking my shirt off I throw it to the side and ready myself, I know why I'm here. Even if she's doing this just for the pleasure of hurting me it will still help me grow stronger, so I plan to use this to my advantage. She notices my gesture and responds promptly.
"Shall we begin then? Let's see if you're any better!"
I didn't use my perception in my fights with Jason but you bet your ass I'm going to use it now. From what I can tell her ability isn't like an on-off switch, it's ingrained in her very being. So there's no way for her to deactivate it and put us on a level... more level playing field. However, I believe even with my perception she's still going to give me a run for my money.
I see her lean forward slightly and just barely bend her knees. Despite the more than a couple feet in between us I begin to move as if she was right in front of me, because she was. It looked to take minimal effort on her part but she had already closed the distance. She swings at me but because of my previous movement I was already out of her reach, or I should have been. I felt a cutting sensation across my chest. I pause for a second confused at how she could have reached me, and she pauses to lick the blood off her fingers?
It was just on the tips of her fingernails but I could see what was obviously my blood. She put all four of her fingernails on her bottom lip and wiped the blood onto it, then promptly sucked on her bottom lip before returning her attention to me.
"Don't worry, I'm only scratching you. I didn't cut deep, even with that miracle solution of yours you could still die pretty easily if you bleed out, so I'm being a good girl and catering to your weakness."
Feeling my chest I felt a slight scratch, only enough to break the skin. Looking at my fingers there was hardly any blood.

I see, so her reach includes her fingers and the nails on them. I knew her nails were sharp but I didn't realize they were strong enough to where she could use them in a fight, no matter how sharp a nail it would typically break in this situation.
We engage again, but this time I'm careful of her dangerous nails. I slip her slashes and strikes but it takes me great effort. It's weird to think about it this way but she's worse than a bullet. At least with a bullet I can tell exactly where it's going to go and I can see by watching the trigger finger about when it will go there, but with her... She's constantly adjusting her attacks mid-swing kinda like I do but not on the same level. This along with her insanely efficient and elegant movement's makes it really hard to read where she is going and what she'll do. I'm able to land a couple of hits on her arms that are reaching out towards me and some low kicks to her legs but it doesn't seem to affect her much, she must be good with pain. I want to go in for a head shot but I'm scared to get that close to her, because that means I would be letting her get that close to me. With her speed at a short distance, I wouldn't be able to do much, dodging would almost be a long shot.
She comes at me again but this time her stance and attack look different than before. She's... a punch.
After making a big display of her ability to use her nails in a fight she then punches me. She's clever I have to give her that, but just because I couldn't avoid it doesn't mean I didn't see it coming. I latch onto her arm that she used to hit me and I twist my body, putting my back to her. She's lighter than any normal person so I don't need good leverages to throw her, because of this she doesn't go over my hip but more over my shoulder. As I throw her I felt a sharp pain run up my back all the way to the hairline on my neck, it was her nails again. While mid-throw she was still able to attack me with them, amazing considering the fact she has to be very precise not to cut too--
As I thought this a warm sensation began to spread on my back. Carnie slammed into the mat and I noticed she had quite a lot of blood on her fingers.
"Shit, ohhh, SHIT! FUCK!!! RED!!!! Help..."
I can definitely feel more blood than before but I don't think I'm in danger of bleeding out, no, definitely not. Compared to yesterday this isn't anything too crazy. The fights with Jason taught me that my face bleeds quite a bit, even with smaller cuts. So, why is she freaking out?
Carnie is no longer laying on the mat, rather she's sat up on her knees holding her blood-covered hand and looking at it intensely as she spews slurs under her heavy breathing. This is the first time I've ever seen her breathe heavily in any capacity, did my throw do that much damage because she's on the smaller side? I thought it was 'the bigger you are, the harder you fall?' Damn, her hands are shaking pretty bad and she's even starting to cry too, maybe I should help her. She is only a little girl.
No, she can heal! Plus, I've seen her break her arm before without flinching! Something's not right.
She calls out Red's name one last time before she brings the shaking, bloody hand to her face, smelling it deeply and then aggressively shoving it into her mouth.

The Mortal Acts
The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. This is my first serial, and please feel free to leave comments and feedback. For backstory, behind-the-scenes, and other fun stuff, come chat on my discord! Become a patron to read up to 20 chapters ahead here! Blurb: Riven Morell cuts short his regular life at school and home when his mother falls terminally ill. Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.

Every few decades, The Game occurs. Rewards are abundant, power is generously given, and a future is possible to all, from the lowly urchin to the Emperor. That is, at least, what the denizens of this world believe it to be as they prepare from one calamity to the other, fostering power and knowledge. Creating guilds and countries; all for the purpose of winning. Nilbog, battered and beat, wants nothing of it. Kara craves for it all. In the process of a re-write. I advise against reading any of this yet.
