《PERCEPTION (A New Begining)》51. Sparky-lips

I can hear the scattered screams of the people in the stands, a voice yelling from above, and the sound of mechanical contraptions operating. Despite all the sounds, only one has my attention. His voice.
The vengeance in his eyes, the rage on his face, and the sorrow in his voice. It fills my senses, making me unable to focus on anything else or ignore any aspect of it.
Though he's moving towards me he starts to get further away. No, it's me, I'm getting further away. I can feel a force lifting me off the dead kid and pulling me away from it. Even with this new development, I can only think about what is going on.
His reaction, it's not that of just an agent. There's something else here that I'm missing.
As I get further back, and away from the corpse, his trajectory does not change. He isn't trying to follow me but is headed straight for the carcass. An arm comes into view. It's a solid, strong-looking arm wrapped in soft pale skin. Then a huge muscular leg, threatening to rip out of the handmade shorts which covered it, follows the arm into my view. There is only one person whose leg that could be.
The shaved head woman stands like a marble pillar before the human lightning bolt, only a few feet back from the body. I fly through the air, hurdling backward with great speed while watching the man land on his knees beside it. He looks at the body with an indescribable expression of anguish, reaching down to touch it before stopping. His hands hover above it as if trying to find the gentlest way to lift it up. Unable to do so he puts a hand on either side of the corpse, leaning his head down to get his ear close to it.

I make contact with something, oh, I hit the ground. The force whips my head against it and causes me a second of dizziness as I sit back up. Focusing my vision back to the scene at hand I am greeted with a pair of red lips facing me. They move hypnotizingly at me before the sound escaping them reaches my ears.
"RUNN!"
I have never seen this expression on her face before, it looks like concern. I try to analyze it but am interrupted by another sound.
"Justin! Stand down! A medical team is on their way, we can still--"
The speaker's voice is drowned out by the sparking and crackling of not only the lightning gathering around Justin, but his screaming voice. Red spins back towards him, giving no more time to warning me. I watch as the lightning scattered around him instantly gets sucked back into him and he leaps off the ground in my direction.
I brace myself.
Shit! What do I do? If he touches me I'm done for. He might not even have to touch me with as much lightning is around him, just getting close to me might be enough. My only option is to keep my distance.
I start to roll to the side while he shoots towards me, but something stops him in mid-air.
Rather someone's hand stopped his throat in mid-air. The momentum of his movement caused his lower body to shoot forward and swing up. Once horizontal in the air the arm then slams him into the ground, his body bouncing off of the platform it was slammed against. The hand doesn't let him go. It lifts him back up in the air and throws him to the other side of the arena. The power in this one arm alone astounds me.

What is going on, why is Red fighting him? Is she protecting me or hurting him? Why would she tell me to run if she wasn't protecting me? So she must be, but why? What am I missing?
Red yells out in the direction she had just thrown him, "Stop Sting! If you go berserk there will be no chance of saving him!" Red swats away the capturing mechanisms that get flung at her. Watching her I notice something, the arm she grabbed him with is shaking slightly.
Justin stands up, the evidence of damage all over him. His shades were now gone, jacket and clothes ripped and burned, and one of his arms was dangling. He hesitated for a second, then his eyes found me and lightning dripped from him. Red turns around, "I told you to RUN! GO, GET OUT OF HERE!" A solid white bolt struck her and she shot out of my vision.
Justin jumped down out of the stands and took off sprinting at me.
I was already halfway towards the exit, looking to my side as I followed his movements. While charging at me he turned to his side and braced for something, a second later I saw Red slam into him. They both went through the concrete barrier and into the stands behind it. I couldn't see anything because they were below the barrier, but I could see the flashing of light and the bolts, that presumably missed Red, shoot out towards the ceiling. The sound of their screams as they struggled against one another rang out.
Coming up on the entrance I could now see through it. There were five agents charging towards me and, at the very end, looked to be doctors waiting and ready. I instinctively jumped back out of the path and behind the wall. Two darts shot out of it and passed through the air where I was.
Fuck, what do I do? If they get me and I pass out I might be easily killed by him, but if I stay here I might also be killed by him!
The ground caved in slightly in front of me and Red looked over at me, darts bouncing off of her as she spoke. "Behind me!" She took off running down the hall and I turned the corner following. The agents bounced off her like pins, getting thrown to the walls as she cleared a path. Following her, I made sure none of their scattered, reactionary shots touched me. We made it to the end of the hall and the doctors, or whoever they were, dropped their equipment as they jumped out of the way. Looking back I saw the agents recovering rather quickly, in fact, most were already back on their feet but looked to be deciding whether to follow us or go into the arena.
Red's voice came from in front of me as I looked behind, "Stick to the walls!"
Is she talking to me, or them?
That's when I saw the hall light up and a bloody, dirt-covered Justin appeared at the other end behind us. As he ran through and after us, any agent that had the misfortune of being too close to him was automatically zapped by his lightning field which looked to cover him and the surrounding five feet.
Definitely them!

World Story: Biographies of Extraordinary People
Important note: I’d like to thank Dr. Buller for their advice on dialogue by their critical review. And I’m on a one-month break to post the first revised chapters on Scribble Hub. Please stay tuned! Even in faraway worlds, every folk had a story, and monsters came in numerous shapes and sizes. However, heroes never existed in this otherworld. Even the most idealistic understood this deep within. But as they abandoned their humanity at times, they quickly regained it. It was not that they became human again. They always were. So what happened when the monster devoid of humanity appeared? Well, the “heroes” sought to slay it at all costs either way, lest it would be the end of their stories. A portal/isekai fantasy that I wanted to deconstruct some elements within. Expect a whole ton of references and dialogue because I’ll deliberately write it more like a light novel. The last thing to consider is that Japanese names in my novel will come with kanji/hiragana characters within parentheses. The same goes for any other derived from non-Latin writing systems. It’s because none of the names I write will be accidental or random. They’ll all have meaning. New chapters Monday to Thursday at 11:00 PM (GMT+8), though sometimes I can’t. Credit for the cover art goes to HWPerfidy. She’s a freelance artist on this site, and I’d love anyone who shows her support.

I Don't (August Alsina)
"Just tell me you love me, man." He said. I thought about and after what he said, my love for him died. There was no love. He wasn't the same man I fell in love with. He was different. He changed and I didn't love this new guy in front of me. "I can't." I said. He looked at me, tears in his eyes. "Don't do this, man. You love me, baybeh. I know you do."I bit my lip, trying hard not to cry in front of him. "August," I gulped, cursing myself because the tears I said I wouldn't shed, were shedding. "I don't love you anymore. I don't."
