《DK (Dropped)》Chapter XVII - Circle of Shifts

I stood there in silence along with the three great warriors.
"Uh, Great DK!" Caesar tried to call me.
"White God?!?" Ragnar suddenly shouted to me.
They kept calling me, wishing for a reply.
Then Leonidas decided to step forward and touched my arm in hope of a reaction.
"Is there something wrong?" (Leonidas)
"I am alright!" I finally answered them. "I was just lost in my thoughts!"
(Strange, Did I just blackout? I could ear them talking, but for some reason I couldn't even think about answering them!)
I had no idea what happened to me.
"Anyways, for now I would like to know what did you learn about combat in your previous hive?" I inquired the new Generals.
A long silence started the moment I asked that question.
Finally, Caesar took a step forward.
"First, a wasp gets one or two random weapons, then starts doing guard duty and on break time, the wasp has the choice to train with another wasp, when it is commanded by a queen, the wasps will go out of the hive into battle."
Caesar paused for a few seconds then continued his explanation. "When we were in battle, we simply used our numbers to attack any enemy, and that's where I got most of my experience of the sword!"
Then Caesar took one step back and at the same time Ragnar took a step forward.
(I like how they are letting each one take their time to speak.)
The last thing they lacked, was the respect and honor for their brothers, queen and probably me.
"My only battle experience was acquired through hunting and the battle of the defense of our hive!" Ragnar informeded us.
"I only know how to use a spear!" (Ragnar)
Afterwards, Leonidas took a step forward as Ragnar stepped back.

"My only experience is from after the fall of the our previous Hive, with the sword and shield that was given to me the moment I left my cocoon!" (Leonidas)
(What the fuck? So their military training was pretty much shit mixed with random luck? And how come the more I heard about something new regarding their previous home, the more I believe that most of their civilization was at a caveman level?!?)
"What was the population of your previous hive?" (DK)
All three looked at each other, taking a minute to respond.
"Maybe one thousand? Or five thousand?" Caesar told me, unsure of himself as the other two stayed quiet.
(The different in numbers is not helping me at all! But now that I think of it, it wont matter if the birthrate is high if the mortality turns into a monstrous number!)
"Thank you, but now, I will give you all the time you need to think for my next question, I don't care how long you will take to answer." I spoke to the generals with a serious tone. "When you are ready, I want each of you to explain to me, what were the reasons that made your previous hive achieve annihilation?"
All three Generals remained quiet.
(I wonder what they will answer me later on, even if the Arach outnumbered them ten to one. I doubt that they would fall easily, their enemies might be strong, but they were still unarmed and acted like a mob. Fuck! There's definitely something fishy about this!)
"Don't worry, take your time to think about it!" (DK) "But for now, let us talk about certain details to improve the Hive!"
I turned to the wall, to the left side of the pyramid and I kept drawing again, with bunny blood.
I drew one large circle and then inside the circle I added many things.

On the top middle of the circle, I drew one bunny head, one sword and 1 fish together.
While on the left of the circle, I drew one sword, one spear and one shield.
Then on the right side of the nside of the circle, I drew one hammer and one egg.
To finish it up, I drew three arrows, each one would leave from one set and point to the one on the it's right side, forming some sort of cycle rotation.
"I made this to make it easier for the younger wasps to understand. Every day from now on, all young wasps will work on using this method!"
As I was about to go into more details, I had frozen again.
"Great DK, could you please explain that method to us?" Ragnar asked as I suddenly got quiet.
The three of them looked at each other, wondering if something was wrong.
A few seconds passed and I finally answered them.
"Yes, just give me a moment to explain." I informed the three Generals.
(What the fuck is going on? Its the second time this happens to me!) Trying to figure out what happened. (I don't feel tired nor I feel any pain, maybe it has to be with my mind and not with my body?)
I decided to hurry the explanation.
"Okay, to make it simple, on top we have the gathering and transportation of resources, like food and weapons." I paused for a moment, "On the left, we have training and guarding the Hive and on the right we have construction and maintenance of the Hive, helping Cleopatra in her needs and taking care of the unborn wasps.
The day will be divided into 4 shifts, the young wasps will be divided on three groups, wich each group will work in one job.
Once a shift is done, each group will rotate to another job, this way every young wasp will learn everything he needs to know before becoming a warrior wasp!" (DK)
(This might be too complicated for them, but I don't think they will survive against the Arach if they only got one-third of their Hive ready to receive them!)
The three waps looked confused.
"W-What about the fourth shift?" (Leonidas)
"It is good that you ask that. It seems you understood well!" (DK)
At that moment, the three generals felt prouder of themselves.
"The fourth shift will be on the late evening. It will be considered break time for young wasps." (DK)
"But what about warrior wasps?" (Leonidas)
"And us?" (Ragnar)
"For now, I want you three to teach the young wasps of their duties, that includes everything that's on this wall, you also will decide when they can become warrior wasps." (DK)
Suddenly I had my third blackout.
Fortunately, the wasps did not notice it as they were thinking about what I had just told them...
(Again? Dammit, I got to finish this now!) I thought to myself as my last desire, was that these blackouts would become permanent.
"Later on, warrior wasps will train young wasps, help in daily shifts if needed, and will be part of the active wasp army."(DK)
"Active wasp army?"(Ragnar)
"Great DK! Does that mean you plan to attack the Arach?" (Caesar)
"Yes and yes, but now, if you don't mind, I must rest!" I informed them as I stepped straight to my resting place.
The three Generals did not say anything else, slowly remembering that their White God would usually rest before sunrise.
"So those are the first ones." I mumbled as I saw a few new heads coming down the stairs before going underground into my slumber.

Cutting to Life: an NPC LitRPG (Battle Royale)
Nikola is an NPC in The World of Wills, a video game where players can feel sensations as if they were truly there. She leads a life of bloodshed and murder - that is, until one day she wakes up sapient. Just as she begins thinking real, non-scripted thoughts and making connections, she and the players in the game are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life - and it's time to get killing. But what of Nikola, the emerging AI consciousness? How does she win in a game that can only end in her being wiped from existence at the end of it all? - Updates Mondays and Fridays. Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead. It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them. The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever? - This story is told in third person, past tense.- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.- Chapters are anywhere between 800 words and 3000 words long.- Book cover by Vixeona.Cutting to Life is also being posted on SPB and Scribble Hub.Thank you sincerely for reading.
