《Monster Story》1: Naomi Fujimoto

Not even seconds after getting both Jordan and me into her club, Violet led us into a classroom with a singular girl sitting in the middle of it, jotting notes down on paper.
"Detective Girl!" Violet cupped her mouth and yelled out - of course, I couldn't help but grit my teeth and stare in pity as I saw the young girl jump from her seat in shock.
Naomi Fujimoto, known as one of the more popular girls in our school due to both her looks and general intelligence, I do have to admit after seeing her for the first time, she was quite the looker, definitely my type - short silky black hair, a velvet hue coming from her eyelashes. She's Half-Asian so some of her features are a given but they add a whole lot to the wider picture. She wears black leather gloves, keeping her sleeves close to both of her wrists as two black tights sit comfortably on her thighs.
"I don't like how you're both looking at me like that..." Naomi commented, her eyes shifting focus between Jordan and me. I quickly took a glance at Jordan to see her doing the same thing that I was doing and that was, obviously, checking her out. "I can almost feel those lustful stares." She said this as she adjusted her gloves.
"It's because every part of you is so beautiful Naomi!" Violet said with a massive grin on her face.
Naomi gave an uncomfortable expression to the lot of us. "I'm not sure how I should feel about that."
"Well, a lot of people find you gorgeous in the school y'know!?"
Naomi turned her chair to face us, "I don't very much care for those people."
Violet paused for a moment, hands on her hips, "Well! I'm not here to compliment you, I'm here to recruit you!"

"What?"
"I'm starting up a club! It's called the 'Private-Investigations Club'!"
"You want me-"
Violet cut her off, "Since you used to be known as the 'kid detective', I thought it'd be a good idea to contact you as well as these two lovely people behind me!" Violet motioned towards us.
"I don't do Private-Investigation work anymore."
"That doesn't matter! You could use the club to study or whatever, I don't give a shit! It's just good to have more people who know about the field y'know?"
Naomi pressed her lips together, her eyes narrowing in consideration before shaking her head, "Sorry, I cannot join your club."
"Why is that?" I immediately interjected with a question. She was about to talk but I stopped her with a hand, "Sorry... first. We should introduce ourselves. I am Savan Murphy."
"I'm Jordan Balan."
"I'm Violet Le Roux."
Naomi nodded, "Naomi Fujimoto, nice to meet you all. But... I'm sorry, I'll have to reject your offer."
"Why is that?" I asked again.
"Personal reasons..."
"What are those reasons?"
"That isn't your business." Her tone became more hostile as I pressed further and in response to her change of tone, I gave a cold stare in return.
"Whether it is my business or not, you can come up with a better excuse. You could've lied, or left out details in your reasoning as to why you wouldn't want to join the club."
Jordan leaned to me, bringing her voice to a whisper, "Why are you doing this?"
I leaned over to her in turn, whispering back, "Personal reasons..." I bring my attention back to Naomi as her expression became more filled with rage as I continued, "I want to know your reasoning. You used to be a Private-Investigator, right?"

"You're getting on my nerves."
"I'm just going to guess. Does it have something to do with your previously mentioned young age, in where there wouldn't be much respect for you in that case leaving permissions as to what cases you get involved in, or the amount of information on the case to be very limited, no? I think that guess makes more sense so I won't go on."
She raised herself from her seat but didn't move.
"That guess was one part of a whole huh...?" I was stumped, the other guesses that I had wouldn't make much sense unless I was in her boots during when... whatever made her not want to be a Private-Investigator happened, but, it could simply be that she didn't want to do it anymore. "Did you just not have the passion for it at a certain point? That's reasonable..."
She didn't budge, that wasn't it.
"Then if it wasn't from a lack of passion... then what was it?"
"What was your name again?"
"Savan Murphy, son of Johann Murphy and Elizabeth Murphy, younger brother of Alex Murphy, older brother of Kitsune Murphy."
"Okay, Savan. You wouldn't very much like it if I pried into your issues, yes? Or do you think I didn't do my research on the people of this school?"
"Bring it up then..."
"So you do know what I'm talking about?"
"Yeah, I'm telling you to talk about it and I want to hear your exacts thoughts on what had happened and if I find what you said dissatisfactory, I will debunk any and all that you might say point by point." I couldn't exactly contain my anger, but I kept it in since I know I'd be a hypocrite otherwise.
"Do they both know?"
Violet looked to me, confused, so I looked over to Jordan, pointing at her with my thumb, "She does."
Jordan nods, understanding what we were talking about. Naomi takes a deep breath before exhaling, "You were accused of sexual harassment and molestation whilst still in Middle School, you were then promptly suspended, it going onto your record permanently even though there was no proof that you have committed such a crime... in fact, you didn't do it at all. Nothing suggested that you did anything of the sort, but that's all I know. You could've done it for all I know."
Violet is looking at me in shock, "I can confirm that I did not in fact commit any crimes of the sort. My Father and Brother had looked into the issue as a whole and had confirmed it themselves, my alibi also checked out as well. Of course, the school couldn't give less of a shit about that. Worst of all, the guy who caused the whole fiasco is my Sister's crush, fucking bastard." I blew air out from my nose, "But I'm the type of person who lets bygones be bygones... I couldn't give less of a shit about the whole situation now. So... will you tell me why you don't want to join the club now?"
Silence spread across the classroom.
I looked over to Violet, "What, you gonna disassociate with me now?"
"No, I believe you, I'm just surprised."
"Okay..."
Naomi shook her head, "I don't need to be doing this right now." Before leaving the classroom, she said, "I'm still not going to join."

Portals to other worlds. Siblings with a secret. A world in need of magic. Zach is haunted, scarred by his time spent in a place that might as well have been hell. Zara, his sister, even more so. After years of torturous experiments, they were finally rescued. But the years since then haven’t been easy. Both siblings just want a break, something to take their minds from the past. The portals that appeared all over the world a hundred years ago are the key. The reason behind years of captivity now holds the answer to their problems. For the second time in his life, Zack awakens as a ‘Traveler’. Someone possessing the ability to pass through these portals and venture into the mystic realms. What begins as a fresh start soon attracts the attention of nobles and those with less savory intentions. When you have known nothing but distrust for those in power, what would you do to remain in control of your life? I will be uploading new chapters on Tuesday and Saturday each week at 4pm Mountain Standard Time. (The story has been described as X-men meets Narnia. Which while not entirely accurate, is still a fun way of looking at it.) (Note: As with my other stories, this one focuses more on the characters than on constant action. The Lite-LitRPG and Gamelit elements are introduced into the story gradually.) Author's Note: This is my raw, mostly unedited text. I am using RR to test out this story as I'm writing it to get a feel for how the published and edited copy will be received. Certain sections of the story will be changed or added to when I publish it as well. Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
