《Observing Death》Drowning

The lights are off, I can barely see. The darkness clouding my eyes, not allowing a single ray of light to pass through. With my sight gone, my other senses are heightened. I could hear the sound of the electric fan blowing cold air, reverberating across my room.

I lie in bed gazing upon the ceiling, I watch as the lights from outside permeate into the curtains and is reflected on the ceiling. The light is long enough to create a line between the ceiling.

Slowly, it moves reducing the dark space from one side and increasing the other until the light hits the end of the ceiling and fades into nothingness only to reappear again dividing the once one surface in half.

I watch in silence as it repeats this motion countless times, only the sound of the fan echoing in this dark space. Time continued to move, time never stops.

No one can escape it's grasps, I can never escape. I've been flailing in this cold dark river, splashing about as I struggled to swim up hoping to survive.

I have always been in the water, I cannot run away, I am only allowed to struggle.

The water barely reached my ankles, yet it kept flowing steadily. I stood there, stuck in place, I couldn't move on my own. My body didn't obey my commands, no matter how I tried to move.

I began to observe my surroundings, but all that I could see was a vast expanse of darkness. Only the river shined with neon lustre, lighting up this void domain.

Then I noticed the water was up to my waist, it's flowing and rising at a pace I could not catch up to. I felt a slight sense of fear creeping up my spine, out of instinct I struggled against my body, I needed to move.

I tried moving my feet with great effort and they eventually responded, I took a step and then another and another. I began to walk, aimless as I am I kept moving not allowing myself to be swept up by the currents.

I was being hunted, by a foe that I could not see. But I felt its presence, it looms over me never letting me out of its hold. I kept moving, I had to.

The river flowed, it reached my neck at this point. I started thrashing about, fear taking over my body wanting to escape from danger. I touched the ground with my feet and hopped then hopped again, doing my best to keep my head above water.

Eventually my hops lessened in frequency, I was tired and it became harder to breathe, then I noticed I could not feel the ground anymore.

I began to sink, no matter how hard I tried to swim up I couldn't reach the surface. The desperate fight for survival crawled its way up my throat, I needed to move, I needed to breathe.

I flailed my arms and feet, struggling as I fight for my life, thankfully I managed to reach the surface. I drew a huge gasp for air. I can breathe, I'm alive.

Yet the river never stopped flowing, I on the other hand grew tired. I kept sinking and as I struggle to swim up, I eventually used up all energy that I could muster.

I choked, I took in water to my lungs.

All I felt was a burning feeling in my chest and my throat, it became harder and harder to keep my consciousness afloat. My heart slowly lost its strength, slower beats for every moment that passes.

I wondered why I kept fighting the flow of time as my body fell deeper and deeper into the river's depths.
