《Chain Worlds: Rise of Three》Chapter 11: Erik, The Shocktroops

Erik had been woken up in lot of different ways, water to the face, an angry raccoon rattling through the garbage and the like. He had never been punched awake before though.

He shot up and grabbed for his assailant, the woman however was quicker and stronger than him. She dodged back and sent him against the wall with a spun kick to his side.

The impact nearly knocked him out again, he felt his ribs protest with cracking sounds and when he fell back on his bed Erik was half a mind to just stay there.

The sound of leather boots scraping over wood had him jump up again, whoever the attacker was she was going at him again.

Erik managed to block the first punch to his throat by slamming his hand against it, but the second one slipped past his defence and took him in the guts.

Once again he was pushed against the wall behind him, this time he launched himself from it to overwhelm his opponent using his weight.

The two of them scattered across the floor, the woman took a sharp breath and tried to pull her feet between the two so she might throw Erik off her.

He jumped off her before she could land another hit, his eyesight sharpened and the howling of wolves filled Erik’s mind. The eyes of the woman went wide as she saw her opponent’s fingers grow talons.

Rage boiled up from within him, the spirits were out for blood and once again he was inclined to follow their lead. His opponent got back on her feet and drew a dirk, her eyes were still wide but she had set up a defiant smile.

‘A fellow warrior’, too bad he would paint the walls with her blood, she would have been a great asset for the fight.

He charged forward, the door burst open, a familiar voice sounded “Stop it right now! Both of you!”

But Erik was beyond reasoning, with one hand he caught the dirk mid air as he slashed at the woman's eyes with his other hand.

She dodged, barely, the claws scraped over her forehead trailing a thin line of blood after them.

Erik used the momentum to follow up on his attack with a spun kick to her chest. The woman was out of balance from saving her eyes, so the kick threw her against the other side of the room.

Blood trailed from her mouth as she fell to the floor eyes only half open, Erik was about to end it as something hit him to the side of his head, something that had the force of a bull and the consistency of a rock.

The impact robbed him of all vision for a couple of seconds as he fell to the floor, bright spots clouded his eyes as he looked at his second assailant.

The large man seemed oddly familiar, it took him another look to realise Winter was standing before him, the man was in full battlegear.

“What the shit Winter? That woman just attacked me in my sleep!” he was still dazed by the hit to his head, the man must have the strength of a mountain bear. His eyes went back to the figure he had sent flying against the wall, the woman was now leaning against the wall wiping the blood off her face.

“Can i keep this one Winter?” her voice sounded slightly muffled from behind her hand. “He has the talent to be one of us even if he needs to take more notice of his surroundings.”

She was young, maybe five years older than Erik himself, her hair was kept short and was bright red.

“You do realise he would have killed you if I had not interfered right? What were you thinking attacking the boy in his sleep anyway? I swear by the high council you are the only person I know that gets dumber with age Summer.” Winter’s tone made it clear the woman did things like this more often than he wanted her to.

She got back on her feet and Erik sat up, his head still spinning. Summer was as tall as Erik, maybe a tad taller. Her arms were covered in scars and she looked more like a man than Al, if not for her face which could have been pretty if not for the blood streaming over it from the three scratches across her forehead.

“Come on, you must have known i would check him out after all the stories the rookies are telling. Is it true he literally bit the enemy's commanders head off?” Her eyes wandered to Erik who was still sitting on the floor and was still having trouble focusing on either of the two.

“For fuck’s sake Winter! You gave the boy a concussion! How am I to train him if he can’t stand for the next week?” she turned to Winter who was now also looking at Erik.

“You are right, I should have restrained myself some more. But he was hard to stop in the first place and you did not see what he did yesterday. To answer your question from before, no, he did not bite his head off he just tore his throat out with his teeth.” That made Summer go quiet, she looked back at Erik.

His head was starting to feel more like it used to, as the souls within him used whatever power they had to fight off the bleeding in his head.

If he had not possessed the power of healing he would have most likely died within the day, Winter would have killed him, something Erik was certain to keep in mind if he ever fought with Summer again.

“So, you killed a man with your teeth… did you lose your weapon? Or what told you that would be a good idea?” she asked, like one would ask why he had used the long knife instead of the short one to gut a deer.

Erik was half a mind to tell her a wolf had told him to go for the man’s neck, but then again he had just tried to kill her and would most likely spend quite some time in her company.

“I needed my hands free for anyone who got close, using my teeth seemed the smart choice at the time…” the reply was meant to sound unconcerned.

Summer raised an eyebrow, “You have to have some really sharp teeth to pull something like that off, you sharpening them for the occasion or are you just another freak of nature?” the last words had a bit of a bite to them.

Erik smiled and showed his wolf like fangs, “I think we will get along just great miss.” he emphasised the whole thing by drawing his flews up like a dog would.

Summer shuddered “Put those things away boy, or i will do it for you.” she looked over to Winter who was still standing next to Erik.

“I like him, he can come with us.” her voice had something final, Winter looked at the two of them then sighed. “Alright, welcome to the shock troops Erik, Summer here is your commanding officer, if you survive we will meet in about two months.” he said, turning towards the door he had barged through.

Erik was left behind with his new commander.

“Okay recruit, get yourself some pants and meet the rest of the troop in half an hour outside the city gates!” With these words she left him behind, Erik looked down on himself and blushed, he had not been wearing any pants.

Then another thought popped into his mind, he still had to explain the whole thing to his friends. Hopefully he could find them before he had to leave, better yet explain to them why he had to leave them in the first place.
