《Direction and Magnitude》8 Constitution

The classroom is quite large and was structured like what you would expect from a classroom, desks facing a chalkboard with a small pedestal for the teacher. After we were guided to the classroom we ended up being left to our own devices. The other students decided to take the opportunity to get to know each other. I on the other hand decided it would be best to just go and sit at the desk in the back corner by the windows.

After a few minutes of looking out the window, I hear someone making weird sounds.

“Umm, hello?”

I shift my view to the student, “Yes?”

“You are all alone, want to be my friend?!”

‘Wow… I forgot how trusting young children can be. They have not developed any biases so they just default to either trusting everyone or no-one, this one seems to be the former case. How do I respond to this? I don't want any more attention. But it may be nice to have a friend, no matter how naive.’

“Ok!” I say with an excited tone while my face lights up. ‘This is going to get tiring fast, I was able to manage at home with Jacob and Eloise because they are older and we are expected to be proper because our parents were quite strict. But now that I am in school I must play the part of someone my age.

“Really!? My name is Sally! Your dark hair is really pretty! Ooh, your yellow eyes are so cool!”

‘I have made a mistake… Also, my eyes are amber not yellow.’ I can now see that miss Sally here is going to be a handful.

“My name is Lyla. Your brown hair is also pretty!”

“Lyla? Are you the one who yelled really loud when we're in that big room with the glowing balls?”

“Yes…” I reply in a slightly confused tone.

“Are you ok? I was really scared!”

‘Were you now, at least you didn't have a front-row seat’

With that, the door to the classroom creaked open and in walked Mr, Allard. He set the books he was carrying down on the pedestal, he then cleared his throat.

“Ok everyone, quiet down and find somewhere to sit.” with that everyone went quiet and began to look around for a seat.

“My name is Mr, Allard and I will be your first-year teacher. Now there are some expectations for this class. First, please take what I teach here seriously, your futures depend on creating a solid foundation. Second, please be kind to each other. We are all friends here. And finally, let's all remember to have fun!”

‘Wow, that speech was a bit corny… At least he seems like he cares, and that's all that matters.’

After his speech, we began an overview of the daily schedule and of what subject we will be covering. First up would be history and geography for an hour then a short break followed by an hour of reading and writing with some basic math and numbers mixed in. We would then have an hour lunch followed by introductory magic lessons then into physical education. While only having four hours of actual learning doesn't seem like enough I'm getting the feeling they did that because most of the students would fit the DSM-5’s definition of ADHD.

I do feel like the curriculum does a good job of being quite well rounded. The reading and writing as well as the history sections are good. Since most of the students here are from noble families, it would be problematic if we were expected to be in an official position and not be able to read. Though that would explain some things.

The magic course is intended to give a basic understanding of the principles of magic. While a good number of students are unable to use greater magics it is still important to have a basic understanding of what it is. This is also good because most students who will be more focused on fighting skills while they don't have much mana they can still cast some useful reinforcing spells.

The last class of our day is physical education, this class is used to get our endurance up and blow off some energy in various ways. It's essentially recess with wooden swords and a bit more running.

Now after the introduction was out of the way it was time for lunch. We were shuffled into a large dining hall that had lots of tables and multiple lines to go get food. Luckily the lines moved fast so I was able to get my food quite quickly, I also managed to spot a table that was not being used. Now that I am seated I can start to eat, the food looks really good. I bet that is because most of these children would throw a fit if it was anything less.

As I’m about to begin eating I can hear the sound of a tray being placed on the table. Looking up I see Sally “Yay! I get to eat lunch with my new friend!”

Tch. “Yes, how wonderful.”

“What did you get to eat?”

“Food…”

“Oh! Me too!”

‘...’

Once lunch was over we returned to the classroom to receive our introduction to our magic lessons.
