《Direction and Magnitude》4 Entropy

Eloise preceded to show me her homework, most of it appears to be writing practice. Fill in the blank type questions. Her other piece of homework seems to be about the history of this town and the surrounding areas. There even seems to be some practice with writing numbers.
While what the numbers represent seems to be the same, the actual numbers themselves are far more complicated to draw. I couldn't imagine myself even attempting to use them for vector calculations, I will be sticking with Arabic numerals for that.
The actual letters are also quite complicated and look like some weird hybrid of Japanese and Klingon. Why must this world use such a complicated form of language...
“Wow big sis Eloise, you must be really smart to be able to read and write!” I say as a way to appease her ego. I want to foster a good relationship with my siblings, because if nothing else I'm stuck with them.
And... it worked, she puffed up her chest and smiled. Feeling proud of herself for getting recognition of her intelligence from her younger sister.
“Don't worry Lyla, you will get there one day too!”
I put on a smile “You really think so?!”
“yup!”
If only she knew the knowledge I possessed. Not of just this world but my last one as well. The only thing in this world that has been giving me trouble has been magic. I am only able to understand the fundamentals, this is in part due to the lack of reading material regarding magic at our home.
From what I have pieced together, magic is a form of equivalent exchange. The possibilities are quite amazing but the equation must balance itself out, that the other half is mana. Mana acts as a fuel source for magic. The more power, the more mana that is used. I theorized that someone may be able to use resources from the environment to either reduce the mana cost or increase the magic power. But I am unable to test this theory.

Mana is present in all living things to some degree. While what mana is exactly is not understood, I believe that it is some form of chaotic “energy” within an organism's body. This “energy” seems to be required for a living thing to stay alive, in one of the few books we have on magic it makes a point to warn the reader not to use up too much mana or else it could be fatal.
Now, while my mother and Eloise had a significant amount of mana, the rest of the family was less fortunate. Our father and my brother Jacob didn't have much mana, but they didn't seem all too interested in magic anyway. I, on the other hand, am quite curious about it, but it may be for the best. I have heard rumors of something similar to the magic in my previous life, and from what I have heard it was extremely dangerous to espers. It even sounded like it got more dangerous the more powerful the esper, and being on the top of that totem pole means magic may be lethal to me.
Not like I have any way to find out, from what I can tell my amount of mana is minuscule. I probably wouldn't even have enough to create a candle sized flame.
At the end that does not matter, I didn't want the attention anyway. Plus if I really get into a bind I can just use my powers.
I leave my sister to her homework and proceed to grab a book from the bookshelf. I picked one of the history books.
“What are you doing Lyla?”
“Looking at the pictures”
After nodding in acknowledgment Eloise returned to her studies. Seemed my answer was satisfactory, my family still believes I can't read. This way I can keep attention off myself while still being able to learn about this world.

I take the book and bring it over to the big chair next to the bookshelf. Luckily Eloise Was oblivious to the fact that the book I was carrying was way too heavy for a girl my age to be able to lift. I had a habit of using my ability subconsciously to make certain tasks easier, this was one of those instances where I made the book lighter by reducing its gravitational force.
Sitting down on the comfy red chair I put the book on my lap and begin to read.

Immovable Mage
What do you call a mage incapable of casting spells? In this story, we usually call him Terry. When the boy is accepted into Arcana Academy, his talent in the pillars of mana foundation awes everyone. All the bigger is the eventual disappointment when Terry turns out to be an utter failure at spellwork. Diagnosis? Major aspect impairment. No cure. Ever. Faced with expulsion, Terry is blessed with the unexpected kindness of others. Terry loses his spot in the Academy but in exchange, he finds a home with a family. Terry starts to train as a pure mana cultivator but never stops looking for his own path as a mage – day after day, season after season, always searching for compatible spellwork… Until finally, Terry’s perseverance earns him a single spell – the only spell he will ever be able to cast. Disclaimers: Chapter Frequency: I aim for one chapter a week. Chapter Length: I try to keep chapters between 3000 and 6000 words. Binge Preference: I plan for 30 chapters per arc. If you want to binge a complete arc, then that is the number to wait for. I will also add a line to chapters indicating the beginning and end of an arc. Advanced Access: I have created a patreon page with early access to four chapters for patrons. What to Expect: Progression fantasy with a western fantasy setting and with eastern fantasy elements. A main character that is forced to explore a very narrow path of magic due to a permanent condition. A main character that is a part of a larger cast. A main character that is growing but won't become the strongest around anytime soon. A story following a single main character but with introduction or theme setting scenes without the main character. What Not to Expect: Edgy grimdark characters – I will never write a sexual violence scene or gory descriptions of torture. I hate reading it and I would hate writing it even more. Romance – romantic relationships will never be the focus of the story and only appear in the background. The main character is preoccupied with other stuff. Other forms of relationships (family, friends, companions) play a bigger role. Cover: The cover art was commisioned from redditor Linh-Nguyen87. The font is alita brush by Inovatype Typefoundry. Overview: 001–030 Arc 1, Cultivating Perseverance: complete. 031–060 Arc 2, Undying Defiance: complete. 061–090 Arc 3, Unyielding Fury: scheduled for publishing. 091–120 Arc 4, Savage Hope: scheduled for publishing. 121–150 Arc 5, Self-Made Fate: first draft in progress. 151–180 Arc 6, Heretic Style: sketching in progress. Further Arcs are still in the sketching and idea collection phase.

Blue Screen Blues
When Ryan Glasser, (an emo kid by heart) kills himself after having a good day at school turn horribly bad, he is forced to stand before his maker for final judgment of his soul. With Ryan Thinking life was just a game he could just end and throw away without any consequences, he is offered a deal to live his next life in a real-life RPG world full of swords, magic, misery, memes, and Mondays with nothing to help him along the way but a magical cellphone full of his music to get by in his afterlife. A real-life RPG you say? That sounds like perfect place to spend eternity! What’s the catch? Well first of all, this “Server” is in a nightmarish beta stage that has two trapped goddesses engaged in an everlasting brutal holy war between each other that has recently turned into a stalemate. Ryan is supposed to kill one of these goddesses somehow. (Technically there is a third goddess, but no one really cares about her) Secondly Ryan can’t die in this world without completing his mission here. If he does, straight to hell he goes. Thirdly, right from the start of spawning into this world, he has an annoying clingy emo/scene cat-dog rogue girl fall in love with him. This would be great in all If Ryan didn’t hate furries. Ryan will realize no matter how hard he tries he just can’t lose this clingy disaster. Forth: Living in an RPG world is great and exhilarating but when the class you choose to roll seems to be just as emo as you are, interesting things are going to happen. You better hold on tight; destiny holds in store for Ryan a Twisted Romance, tons of betrayal, a life full of dark twists and turns, and an adventure that will make or break him in this strange new world. Welcome to Lectioterra Adventurer! (Please DO NOT buff the Raid boss) (Please note i am quite aware that book one was written with quite a few thousand errors. I took a break from writing for ten years and had to relearn a lot of things. I learned quite a lot from writing 100+ chapters so far. I will go back and edit book one’s chapters after I get book two finished. If you all want to point out the errors in the earlier chapters I will gladly edit those things ASAP)
