《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 55 - Moth

“Let me guess, you’re my next opponent?” I questioned the man, twisting my wrists, cracking my knuckles afterwards.
“Hehe, it depends, who are you? Dyne?” Since Ren’s sister knew about my name, I wasn’t as shocked at him knowing, but still, it did seem off.
“It’s interesting, how you also know about that name,”
“Yeah, it’s interesting, seeing you here, and not galloping around Antral like some lunatic, like you were a few months ago,”
“I can get how you got my name, but… how? How do you know about that before, even Jododam doesn’t know that, and he, he, he’s the man I've felt closest too,”
“Doesn’t mean I can know as well,”
“But what it does mean is that I'll need to get some answers,” The figure stood up, and something happened.
I heard him get out a gourd, putting it to his mouth and putting it back. Afterwards, he began to stretch, taunting me which I didn’t like. I decided to jump at the man and was halfway between him and the ground, but then, I felt something tug on me and flail me to the ground.
After rubbing my head, I saw the man, opening out his arms, and flames appearing. They were blue in appearance, unravelling from his back, still not able to see his face. The flames kept growing and growing, taking the appearance of giant butterfly wings.
“‘For the ones who waited after the loss, became victorious, like a moth, spreading its wings and taking flight, leaving the rest of its family, to reach the stars’, that is my story,”
“Mine has been tragic in the past year, so let’s see how we both do.” I summoned my chains, and used the one on my chest to begin to attack him.

The man simply counter-attacked with a whip of flames, blocking my chain from reaching him and making it come back. The three chains on my back began to react, so I focused, before dashing towards him.
Noticing, the man began flapping his massive wings of flame, lifting himself in the air, trying to escape me, but it was futile. After jumping onto the spot he once was, making the small tower crumble and began to make sheets of ice below me.
Jumping on the ice, I would propel myself higher, able to fight him. He stopped after a while, I was able to see the other side of the island, that was how high we were. After a while, the man created a platform, for some reason I decided to land on it, feeling no dangerous aura coming from him.
After jumping on it, I looked at him again, seeing that his face was mysteriously still covered in shadows. The man's wings came to a grinding stop, and so did the flames that moved around in them. It was a marvel to behold, but I couldn’t marvel long, I had questions.
“That thing you said, about me prancing around, how do you know that?”
“I know a lot of things, some things even Quinn can’t reach since it’s a dream,”
“Whenever I went to Antral, it wasn’t a dream, I'll ask you again, how do you know that?” Lightning began to course through my veins, before hearing thunder in the distance.
“‘The tale of two tails that only had one.’”
“A book by Pariment Hazel, the tale of two young boys,”
“That shared one soul, it seems that literature really connects the two of us,”
“What does that have to do with this conversation?”

“You and I, are both in the same boat, I would have to say,”
“We both share the same soul?”
“Hehe, no, we both shared each others soul."
I’m not sure why, but as soon as the man said it, I felt as though my entire body felt defeat. Weakness, that is what I was feeling, but he made it feel worse. As usual, calming myself down, looking at him again.
“Would you mind if I explained,”
“We’ll be at each other's throat after this so go on,”
“Both of us came from the different species, you a human and me a demon. Your father was part of a family that created wine for the middle class, whilst your mother seduced him at a brothel, I believed it was called-”
“Skip the part of where my mother used her body for money,”
“Sure, my mother was a sower for the middle class, whilst my father was a feudal lord, a love that couldn't be meant to be. After conceiving, my father was labelled a criminal and my mother fell to the bottom, selling me as a slave,”
"I have a feeling you killed someone when your turned four?”
“Three actually, burnt down the owner's house, thirty reported dead, one missing, all because of the blue fire you see before you,” The wings of flames began to move again before they stopped moments later.
“Your father was the demon that my mother helped, the one without a body, am I correct?” Asking the mysterious man.
“Yes, you see, my father was thrown into a demon gate, exiled, but that’s when he lost his body, making his soul ability, able to survive as a lost soul, and controlling each of the five races, spirits included,”
“He found my mother...”I put my right hand to my chin, slowly getting deeper into thought.
“Yes, and when your father attacked you, to heal everyone, my father used up almost all of his soul, so that you wouldn’t die,”
“But that meant,”
“Yes, he pretty much died, but he returned, giving my mother a letter, before she gave it to me, afterwards… I decided to leave,”
“I saw blue flames when I became a vampire, was that you?”
“Yes, I had no clue other than some snippets of Antrite, usually around Daishin, and then I saw you with my very own eyes when you became a vampire,”
“You had a record of your father's memories?”
“He found a demon that could create living photos, the demon put it down on the letter,”
“I see, hmph, so could I call you?”
“Yes, you may,”
During the talk, I decided to sit down, and now it was over, I began to stand up. Cracking my neck, I looked at the mysterious man in a new light. I opened my mouth, showing my fangs, as I said something before the battle began.
“Thank you for the story, but I'm afraid we must fight, brother.”
