《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 54 - Crawling

Centipedes began to appear from all the corpses and crawled towards me. Small, black and a glowing blue, each the size of a small rat. They were extremely fast, as though I could barely see them, but still. The centipedes were afraid of the cold, so what I did was to create small ice blocks in the air which chilled them, making the centipedes slower.
One by one, I decided to destroy them, since they were small it was easy. But what I didn't know of what was happening. The centipedes were never-ending, it's as though they were infinite, and the bodies didn't begin to pile.
Looking around, I began to see smaller centipedes taking their brethren and eating them, becoming larger themselves, that and… multiplying. I was shocked, this creature wasn't meant to be beaten, it was meant to stall, and that's what it was doing, each death causing the centipedes to become larger and duplicate.
It wasn't long until all the corpses were eaten, leaving me up to my knees in centipedes. Freezing with ice, frying with lightning, fighting with my fists, it was worthless and after a while, I became was sick and tired of it, so I did something that I should've done at the start of the fight.
I put my hand into the large mass of centipedes, some very quickly crawling up my arm, trying to get inside me, but it was too late. My source of ice was powerful, and that's what it did, freezing every centipede in the dungeon. All I had to do was move, and then they would all shatter, so that's what I did.
I raised my right foot and with one firm kick, a large number of black and blue shards of ice surrounded me. It was easier as I thought, and Quinn would be opening a portal any minute now. I laid against some iron bars and began to breathe heavily, a way for me to calm down. Fidgeting in my right pocket, I pulled out a small vial of pink liquid and began to drink it.

In one gulp, it was gone, and I threw the vial at the icy mess of centipedes and began to focus on my breathing again. That vial was made out of Jododams blood, and some elixir, usually I would have two, but now I have one. This was the first time I used the vial, and its effects were amazing.
For moments, I had feelings of invincibility, feelings of power, but then suddenly, it wore off. Everything was healed, and I felt a pain in my core, so bad that I had to grab it. Realizing what happened, I grabbed the other vial, my hands shaking and looked at it, before putting it back.
When Jododam gave me the vial's, he stated that they were like a highly addictive drug, just a drop, and a normal demon would never come back. It was a good thing that I wasn't normal, I was abnormal, special, unique.
Looking back at the icy mess, still cracking, I noticed something else. Patches of red were being emitted from the ice, some of the centipedes survived. One of them cracked open through the ice, it's size was short, but it was at least a few metres long. After a while, I heard ringing in my head, and I looked back at the centipede.
"You don't get it Dyestral, there's nothing you can do against these chimeras," The voice of the woman before echoed in my head. I looked at the centipede, which was just looking at me, with glowing blue eyes, she was in the centipede.
"So this is a creature that never stops growing?"
"Whatever you use against it, it will find a way to counteract, for example, they've adapted to a source of fire, heating their bodies making your ice useless,"
"And what is happening with their bodies? And the souls of bugs can't create their source, so how?"

"Because these chimeras contain demon's blood, yes, we are beginning to make something you can't wrap your head around, goodbye Dyestral."
The centipede then fell down and just twitched. I sighed, and decided to look at the centipedes frozen and saw that in fact, they did have an aura, with a fire source emitting, but what happened afterwards surprised me.
All of a sudden, all my ice turned red and all the centipedes again began to run around, trying to eat my insides. I finally summoned my chains and began to hit them with blunt force, if they got too close to my mouth, to stop them from growing, I would eat the centipedes.
The taste was unnatural and very bitter, but it was easy to pass into my throat. One thing I did notice though is of the familiar taste of demon blood, not only that, but it tastes almost like my own. Bite after bite after bite, their numbers slowly diminished, their blood quickly becoming my own, my wounds healing faster, I didn't even need that second flask.
All was fine until it happened, there was only one left, and it was now larger in me. The centipedes probably all began to consume one another, all I have to do now is defeat this. The centipede then grabbed a hold of me with its mandibles and began to flail me around the place.
I tried to strike it with my chains but its body was too hard for me to leave a dent, so I did the next idea that came into my mind. That idea was to wrap my chains around its legs, which was easy enough and then it happened.
I made the centipede bash me against walls, doors and pillars, just what I was hoping for. By the time the centipede made its way through the roof, it had already destroyed the stronghold. Little by little, it weakened with more damage, I made sure that I would encase everything in the ice behind me.
Finally, the rumbling began to happen and I was ready. I retracted my chains and found the centipede's eyes, gouging them, releasing it's grip onto my and began to attack its head. Most of its body was protected with a strong coating, so it aimed for its mouth and allowed lightning to crackle inside it.
Finally, I moved my hand up and then the centipede became motionless, I had destroyed its brain. I couldn't celebrate for long, I noticed that the stronghold began to implode, so I did what it must.
I summoned my chains again and pulled myself up through the floors. After a while of design objects and grabbing onto them with my chains. I was able to make my way back off the cliff, to see that due to the horror of the stronghold being demolished the chimeras went loose.
I was still in a fighting position, and in the corner of my eye, I saw a man. He was simply clapping, but even that scared me, night had already come again. I couldn't see what he looked like, but there was one thing that I did know, that he was my next opponent.

Our Shattered Realms
*This is a learning experience for me so please keep in mind that I am attempting to work on some of the issues brought to my attention early on. However I haven't yet gone back to redo the early chapters.* Less than two days ago every piece of electronics in the world stopped working for more than two hours. The death toll was immense. Hospital equipment failed, cars stopped in the middle of the street, planes fell from the sky, and homework was lost at the worst possible moment. We found out that it was just the flicker and hum of The System warming up. Now we see the true cost of our new world. A Dark comedy that focuses on a few of the many people who aren't stuck in a high level dungeon when our world is translated and joined to Our Shattered Realms. This is my first story that I have published. I welcome any criticism that you have for me. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!
