《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 35 - A memory

"I knew that you were a demon Dyestral," Lance replied. "As the honour student of Dence high, I do know a few things, but those daggers, you hid in your sleeves were smart,"
Lance and I were waiting in a carriage that was going to go outside the city. We were talking, so I finally told him about how I was a demon, but he probably read my mind and decided to keep it a secret.
"Well that's a lot off my back, thank you for understanding,"
"Isn't there another one we have to wait on," Lance looked to the open door.
"Yes, Sasha, also known as my fiance,"
"Wait, you're engaged! Congratulations!"
"A beauty who is a vampire-like me, and I killed someone for her,"
"Congratulations, she must be a real beauty if you ended someone's life,"
"Not necessary, it's to stabilize the Blutrot and Leben families ties, they've been at their throat for a while,"
"But still, I'll have to meet the girl, and what happened to your hair?"
"A mission,"
I took a look at my hair in Antrite, instead of white like in Antral, it was grey instead, with some of the tips changed too white. I looked at the carriage door and saw that Sashal or Sasha in Antrite, was running to the carriage. As she entered, she looked at me with a smile and then sat next to me.
"Lance, this is my fiance Sasha,"
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sasha," Lance replied.
"The pleasures all mine Lance, Dyestral has told me that you lived near where we are going?"
"That is correct, Daishin, my hometown,"
The door closed, and I began to look out the window. Jododam wasn't precisely sending me to Daishin, but instead, he was sending me to a small institute near it. After my 'death', the king decided to create cram schools where the students with the highest results in particular subjects would teach. The top three students in the cram school would then be able to enrol at Dence High.

Lance is going to teach the main groups, math, science and geography. Sasha got in because of her teaching skills, and she will be teaching sorcery to students. I was chosen for history classes as well as physical and weapon training.
Although the average demon's body is weaker than a normal human, I'm an exception. When I went through becoming a 'chosen', my body and soul had both become demon and human at the same time. So my strength is that of a human, and I also have the high regenerative capabilities of a demon.
During the trip, I began to ask Lance of what Daishin was like before the semester started. Jododam told me I was out for eight weeks, so I wondered what happened during those two months. He stood there frozen, figuring out what to say.
"Daishin was a great place; I'm not sure what has happened since I was gone. But I'm glad it's near where we are going," He smiled.
"Sorry for that question Lance, it was unkind of me,"
"No no, not at all, I just remembered something before I went,"
He was probably thinking about my death, so I decided to stop talking. The silence didn't last long as I saw some souls up ahead, each one with killing intent. I got up and began to straighten my clothes.
"Are you sensing something Dyestral?" Sasha asked me.
"Indeed I am,"
"But what?" Lance asked.
Sasha then replied to Lance's question. "Sorry Lance, but when my fiance senses danger, he can get a bit crazy for what he's going to do,"
I jumped and went through the carriage, landing on the ground. A hundred meters away, I saw six people blocking the road, probably hoping to rob the carriage I was just in. Using my lightning source, I crossed that hundred meters in under four second.
The two people that were closest to me were unlucky as I smashed their heads together, leaving their brains a red mess, I grabbed their spines in midair and pulled them out, covering them with ice. I threw the spines which were frozen at two other people, both destroying their hearts.

I summoned my chains and made them wrap around the remaining two throats. I noticed a tree near me, so I decided to give them a slow death. I flung my chains on a thick branch and watched them begin to suffer. There was one thing as a demon now which I loved, and that was to watch people suffer.
After the struggling finished, I cleared the road of the corpses and ripped off two arms from my first two victims. I walked back to the carriage and opened the door, I handed Sasha an arm, and she began to suck the blood out of it. I sat down as well and began to do the same. The carriage then began to move again.
"I guess the rumours of vampires being weak to sunlight are fake?" Lance replied.
I threw my husked arm out of the window and cleaned my face. I was a bit hungry since we were already travelling for a while, but I forgot about Lance.
"Neither is us can to turn into bats as well Lance; I guess people just wanted to frighten children as vampires are quite rare, although we do drink blood,"
"Will you do that to me, Dyestral?"
"Unless you want to kill me, then no, I am a starstrider like Sasha,"
"A starstrider?"
"A more powerful vampire that doesn't need to live off blood entirely," Sasha replied. "Dyestral and I can get nutrition from other sources like plants,"
"I see, thank you."
After another while, we were finally there. A massive building, that only had one large classroom which was more significant than the ones in Dence High. I looked to the right and saw an enormous courtyard where I would probably teach my lessons. To the left side of the building, there was a multitude of small cabin rooms; there was ten overall.
Other than that, I saw Lance admiring a picture on a tree. I walked up to him and looked at the picture. I saw that it was a drawing of me in full colour, probably from Lance's memory. He just knelt there crying.
"His name was Dyne, he was my best friend," Lance sobbed. "I asked for this painting to remain of his honour, as he disappeared one day when he finally won against his sworn enemy,"
Although I knew the truth, I decided to ask Lance anyway.
"What happened?"
"After a fight with beasteal named Frederick, that night an explosion happened in his house, and he died, there was no evidence of this, but it was most likely.
I put my hand on Lance's shoulder and knelt. I hugged him from behind, before I stood, also helping him get back on his legs.
"I believe that he would be happy that you still cared, and I hope he is looking down on you right now,"
"Thank you Dyestral,"
I nodded and summoned my chains, whispering the summoning, I began to carve into the tree some letters. After I was done, right under the picture of Dyne, it said, 'In memory of Dyne'.
I helped Lance get up and walk into the building, now not crying. The three of us entered the room and saw that everyone was sitting down. Lance cleared his throat and then began to speak.
"Greetings everyone, we will be your teachers for these few weeks,"

Divine Creatures
Kestra, a [Combat Alchemist] and [Woods Wraith Hunter], is excited to finally receive her third class. But when she attempts to do so, she instead receives a tribulation from the God of Trials, loses her classes, and is informed by the voice of the world that she's been selected to transmigrate with only three days to go. She tries her damnedest to prepare, but even the Elements are different in this new realm. A relatively staid adjustment period is completely abandoned though as she finds that, most distressingly, hundreds of transmigrators have appeared recently with dozens enslaved by the local city lord. Fine! She may have lost her classes and the magic is funky, but she'll be damned if she doesn't have a few true-blue skills up her sleeves. [synopsis re-write by luda305] A light hearted romp where the protag transmigrator *isn't* from Earth. The main story takes place on more of a western xianxia world. Note: profanity tag is because of side characters, and sexual context tag is for some risqué elements before fade-to-black scene. Book 1 is written and scheduled for release a chapter a day till 9/26 (24 chapters total) Book 2 will be added after it is all written. Updated to add fanfic tag because when I picked up the latest Ten Realms I realized that series has had a lot more influence on the setting than I consciously realized. Don't expect military or industrial revolution in xianxia, though.

Will was a normal guy in his mid twenties, living in small town America. He was relatively aimless. Then he got struck by lightning. Waking up reminded him why falling asleep in strange places had stopped being a pleasant adventure for the next day, years before. Then, the crazy started. Life would never be the same, but he wasn't aimless anymore. Plus, you know, super powers are cool. Warning: There will be swearing and casual conversation about subjects that might have some people clutching their pearls. There will be dirty jokes. There will not be graphic depictions of sexual activity, or harem shenanigans, as I'm making my mother read this. That would be very uncomfortable.
