《The Demon Lord’s Successor》73: Farming

“Alright, who’s up for hunting worm-beasts?” You ask your summoned companions.
The little imps cheer, the spider—the one that you’re sitting on the back of—says nothing.
“It’s decided,” you say, “Now, let’s get out of here, while we can.”
You ride on your summoned spider, having finally found a use for her, and your party mover further into the forest, leaving the growing fire behind you.
With no sign of the bunny girls or anyone else for that matter, your expedition turns into a monster hunt.
“Avoid using your fire magic, when possible,” you instruct your loli imps. You already started one fire, and you feel that one is more than enough. After all, you would like to be able to leave this forest eventually, and without testing your mortality for the second time.
A mix of flying, sticky web balls that the spider spits out of her mouth, and the frenzied, dagger stab-stab fun-times provided by the loli imps, allows you to slowly clear out the local deer population, one at a time.
Just after you put down your fourth deer—having re-summoned both your imps and your spider—you when you come across a single bear cub, crawling out of the bushes. It would’ve been cute, if not for the same pale blue, worm-infested eyes. The cub opens his tiny mouth to let out a feeble cry and white warms fall out of it. You wince in disgust and order one of your imps to put the cub out of its misery.
The little girl does not have her usual excited grin, but does follow your order and throws her dagger directly at the cub’s skull. The impact sends the cub’s small body flying backward. But, before the body even hits the ground, you remember hearing or reading somewhere that little bear cubs never wander far from their mommy.

“Look out!” you shout before you even see another bear—even bigger than the last one—leap at your party with a savage road and open, salivating jaw. Four imps jump out of the way, each in their own direction from the impact zone. The fifth imp’s headless body falls motionless to the ground. The sound that comes out of the bear’s jaws reminds you of the crunching you hear when stepping on fresh snow. And that is about the effort it takes the bear to turn your imp’s skull into digestible mush.
“Holy mother of unholy demons what the bloody fuck!!!” You scream, lose balance, and fall off your spider monster lady as she tries to protect herself from the bear that lungees itself at her.
The spider manages to dodge the attack and spits four web balls at the bear in rapid succession, at the same time your imps jump at the bear with their daggers in hand. The webs simply stick to the bear’s body and legs, having no effect, and the bear swipes one of the girls mid-air, ripping her body into four bloody parts.
The other three imps land on the bear’s back and attempt to pierce its thick layer of fur, fat, and muscle. The beast easily shakes them off and lunges at your spider for the second time, biting into her right shoulder, its humongous jaw reaching all the way down to her waist. The spider screams in agony when the jaws slam shut and tear off a third of her torso. You watch in horror as the bear pulls on your summon’s meat and guts, stretching them like gum before they snap and tear apart, letting a violent torrent of intestines and blood gushing out of the gaping hole of the spider’s human body.

“What the fuck are you waiting for!?” You scream at your remaining loli imps. “Burn it, burn it, burn it, burn it, burn it!”
The bear swipes with its paw diagonally at your mutilated spider, shredding her remaining human torso to pieces just as both of them are hit with several fireballs setting the duo on fire. The bear growls and turns toward you.
“Shadow Bolt! Drain Life! Shadow Bolt! Drain Life!” You launch your spells out of both your hands, one after the other at the burning monster, not waiting for it to take even a single step in your direction. It does though—one, then the other.
Your imps are no longer hurling fireballs at the beast. It looks like they finally ran out of their own energy supplies. Instead, they once again throw themselves at the burning bear, stabbing its belly, eyes, and throat, trying to bring the beast down. The bear charges at you regardless.
Seeing the flaming death approach, you cast [Summon Spider] again to act a meat shield against the bear. The bear ends up charging into the spider. Before the poor thing even has a chance to realize what the hell is happening, it ends up attacked, mauled, and burned alive for the second time in the span of less than a minute.
You rise to your feet and keep casting [Shadow Bolt] until the burning pile of bodies is no longer moving.
[Congratulations! Spell [Shadow Bolt] is now level 3!]
“Fuck this!” you say and cast [Summon Spider] to ride out of this hellish place. “If the others are still alive, they wouldn’t stick around here.”
[Congratulations! Spell [Summon Spider] is now level 2!]
“Oh,” you utter when you see your level two spider summon and freeze in place for a split second. The spider looks even more menacing than before. It’s not like a cross between a seductive femme fatale and a human-sized venomous spider was not menacing enough. But now the spider has burn marks all over its body. The woman’s hands and fingers are darker, pointier and sharper. More animalistic. You get the impression of an “Elite” role-playing game monster. You saw no such distinction in the imps, when that spell leveled up, though they did seem stronger.
At least the spider is not hostile toward you. You climb onto its massive body and ride toward the destination of this journey—Ranville.
You open up your skill tab and decide what new spell to acquire with your hard-earned spell point. Or, to use it to advance one of the possible traits.

A World Forgotten
***This story will contain lite-litrpg elements, mainly character pages and a town page. There will also be settlement building and adventuring, missteps and achievements. But one thing it definitely won’t have is a harem. Nor will it have an overpowered MC. Contains mild cursing.*** ***feel free to critique my writing and offer input. This is my first venture into writing. I've always enjoyed litrpg/gamelit books. I feel like I write how I talk, so it may be a little different. You won't hurt my feelings if you see something wrong or out of place! *** ***What follows is a condensed part of chapter 1. Enjoy!*** Drew Cooper is thrust into a new, unfamiliar world. Waking up in his sweats and t-shirt near what seems to be a forgotten path through some woods, he struggles coming to terms that he's no longer in his apartment. As he tries to cope with his new reality, he hears a horse coming down the path. He hides behind a nearby tree dreading what may happen next. As the horse approaches, he sees a man walking next to it. The horse is burdened with packs and gear. When the man nears, Drew nearly panics. He has a large sword strapped to his waist, obviously a fighter. He continues to hide as the man slowly passes only for the man to stop a dozen meters past his hiding spot. "You may as well come out, ya know. You weren't as well hidden as you thought," the man stated matter-of-factly, letting the horse’s reins go and putting his hand on the hilt of his sword. Slowly and scared for his life, Drew raised up and walked from behind the tree. "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't planning on attacking you. I-I don't know where I am. I heard your horse and hid. I didn't know what you'd do if you saw me. I'm sorry," he nervously blurted out. A minute passed. Then two. The man seemed interested with Drew and stepped closer, eyes squinting as if trying to see something. "What's that on your shirt? Is that. What is that? Is that, Pac-man?" The man was visibly shaken while pointing at me. Looking down at his t-shirt nervously, "Yea. Yea. I woke up here a few hours ago I think. 3 maybe 4 hours. I’ve just been sitting here. Where am I? What's going on?" Drew asked. "That's not important right now," the man replied. " What's important is where you're from. What year is it?" "What year? April something 2020. Why? What's going on?" Drew continued now worried. The man was taken aback. After a few moments, he seemed to calm himself some. The man sighed and looked at Drew in earnest. "Well, I've got good news and bad news for ya. Bad news is you're not on Earth anymore. Good news is you happened to run into me and not someone else. You’re either really lucky, or it’s fate we met in these woods, and I don’t believe in luck." The man continued to walk towards Drew while talking and put out his hand. "I'm John Mitchell from St. Louis or thereabouts. You’ve got nothing to be scared of by me. Walk with me and let’s talk."
