《The Demon Lord’s Successor》32: The Fight Continues

You cast [Shadow Bolt] in the back of the giant dryad that’s been harassing your sister. It’s a direct hit! He staggers but stays on his feet. Then he turns in your direction.
The leader of the bandits sends another fireball at your sister, but at the last second she rolls out of the way, jumps to her feet and, with fury in her eyes, dashes at the bunny-eared young man.
You cast [Shadow Bolt] again to finish off the dryad, but, just as it is about to hit him, the dryad vanishes for a split second and reappears at the tail end of the purple bolt, as it flies further behind him and hits the stone wall. The dryad keeps walking in your direction.
You cast another [Shadow Bolt] and, with—a small delay—[Drain Life]. The dryad once again disappears right before your spell hits him, but this time, when he reappears, the green claws of [Drain Life] dig into his body and return back to you bringing life essence of the green man. He again stops for a moment, dealing with another hit from your spell, but shakes it off and runs toward you.
Fucking, stubborn bastard! You curse and double down on your offensive spells since they are damaging the tree-man. However, the dryad first disappears dodging your [Shadow Bolt], but reappears to the side, thus completely bypassing the claws of [Drain Life]. The next [Shadow Bolt] is again dodged and when he reappears he’s in your face and punches you in the gut.
“Blurgh!” you empty the contents of your stomach as you collapse to the ground. The sausages probably never expected to see the light of day again, and yet here they are—right next to you, half-digested. Your eyes water from the sheer shock of the pain.

You wipe your eyes and for a moment look past the two tree trunks that are the dryad’s legs and see what the rest of the battle has turned into. Most of the mess hall is a literal mess. And now you are able to put a “face” to the noise and screams that your brain did not bring to your attention and kept in the background up to this point.
You see two men running in opposite directions, flailing their arms and screaming in agony as they burn alive. The huge-chested girl in a short sailor skirt and with long bunny ears places both of her shields— each large enough to cover the dryad you’ve been fighting—in front of her and ducks behind them. The next second you see an explosion of pure fire, forming a ball larger than the those that Xi has been throwing at your sister. The handy work of three giggling imp girls, working together. They smile at each other, as men are turned to cinder by their handy work. Then they draw their daggers and jump at any of the men still moving, stabbing them repeatedly until they do not.
The spider-woman continues causing chaos, despite already having two arrows in her. She enables your loli imps and bunny girls by rooting the bandits in place one by one. Finally, the spider-woman’s head is removed—no—erased from her shoulders by an ice pillar that lodges into the ceiling. The girl with long purple hair stands below the spider as it falls and disintegrates into thousands of small particles before hitting the ground.
A petite girl with a snow-white bob haircut, bunny ears and a fluffy bunny tail sticking through her sailor skirt lunges at the purple-haired girl but her rapier is blocked by an ice wall that the girl forms with a wave of her hand.

Amidst the chaos, one loli imp climbs on top of a wounded, bleeding young man and proceeds to all too enthusiastically stab him over, and over, and over again. She doesn’t notice a shirtless mountain of fat and muscle walk behind her, with a hairy chest and a grizzled chin. One of his iron boots has remains of thick spider webs, which he must’ve broken out of with sheer strength. He carries a morning star, holding the handle with one hand, bracing it on his shoulder. The spiked ball is larger than the imps entire body.
The small loli keeps stabbing and laughing and doesn’t even look back. This results in both her and the man she is on top of being crushed like watermelons, leaving a puddle of blood and guts. The imp’s remains disintegrate into tiny particles. You're down to four of them. And now you don't even have enough energy to resummon them again.
The dryad picks you up by the collar, looks you in the eye and says in a low and slow voice, “Who are you?”

Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

Lifestones of Lebreima
Lottica and Nick probably could have dealt with the sudden death of their parents. They probably really could have coped. IF. IF they hadn't had to deal with foreign grandparents who wanted to whisk them off to Lebreima, a small Old World country thousands of miles away from their friends and neighbors. IF they weren't being pursued by a sinister figure in a cape (a cape of all things!) who may have killed their parents. IF, in the ruins of their house, Lottica and Nick hadn't found what their dad had hidden there, along with secrets that were about to change the universe as they knew it. IF (and this deserves the all caps) THEIR DEAD PARENTS HAD JUST STAYED DEAD.
