《Bounty Cats》Book Three: Chapter 15

Luna squeezed herself through the hidden passage inside the bush maze. She almost got lost until she heard a scream.
As soon as she squeezed out, she spotted a robotic queen chasing Rei around in circles.
What the hell is she wearing? Luna shook her head to focus on what was more important. "Hold on, kitty!"
She aimed her railgun and pulled the trigger. One-shot instantly blew the queen's head off.
Rei stopped and watched the headless machine collapse to the grass. Her eyes spotted Luna as her mouth grew wide open. "Luna!"
Like a little girl who just found her mother, the teenage catgirl raced toward Luna. She jumped into Luna’s arms and hugged her forcefully. Her face wept between Luna’s breasts.
"I'm so happy you're here!" Rei cried. "Gamsahabnida!!!"
Her fur reeked with sweat, burns, and wetness as if she crawled through a hot sewer. She must have been through so much torment inside the damn cat's dungeon.
Luna smiled and padded Rei’s back. "Chill, kitty. I'm here now."
Rei glanced up at Luna’s face. Her cute eyes watered like marbles. “How did you find me?”
“It’s a long story.” Luna never took her time to solve the Cheshire Cat’s pointless puzzles. She blasted the traps apart and waited for the cat to open the doors. The only trap she suffered was the Mad Tea Party until she broke loose from the chair and destroyed the machines. In the maze, Luna shot a hole through the play card’s face to stop it from chasing her. After she heard Rei’s scream, she found the hidden exit already opened. Thank god she found her partner.
Luna looked around. “Now let’s get the hell outta here. The cops are coming to tear this place down.”

High above, the Cheshire Cat’s booming voice laughed. “You both are so cute together. Hehehe. It is a shame that I have to kill you both.”
Luna growled at the ceiling. “You bastard! Why kill us now!?”
“Your partner failed to win the queen’s croquet game. She must face the consequences.”
“But Luna destroyed the queen!” Rei shouted after she released Luna. “You got nothing in here now!”
The Cheshire Cat laughed louder. “I always have something in my Wonderland!”
High above the catgirls, the ceiling opened and two giant cat eyes gleamed green in the darkness. The thing levitated downward into the light, revealing to be a giant floating cat head. It has purple fur and a massive creepy smile.
A cold shiver ran down Luna’s spine. “What the hell is that?”
The cat head’s eyes grew bright and blasted two energy beams toward the girls. They leaped apart as the beams missed them. Behind them, the beams struck the floor and exploded, knocking the girls off their feet.
Luna got up as the cat head turned toward her. "Damn….."
"You should have solved my puzzles without cheating!" The Cheshire Cat's voice shouted from the floating head. "Now you will face the wrath of the Cheshire Cat!"
Luna narrowed her eyes at the thing. Could the bastard be inside that machine?
She dodged the head's attack and aimed her gun. Her shot struck the cat's forehead, but it bounced off.
"Damn!" She hissed. The damn thing has a protective alloy against energy weapons!
That might be true, but Luna doesn't know what else to do. She has to keep trying.
Luna shooted again as the head hovered backward. Its eyes glowed again, ready to fire again.
Luna decided to wait until the cat blasted its attack. She shot at the second beam, which exploded between her and the machine.

She flew backward and slammed against the wall. Her back arched, but she could still walk. "Son of a….. Bitch!"
"Luna!" Rei shouted from one mile across the field. "Shoot underneath it! That's where its weak spot is!"
Luna’s partner must have scanned the robot while it focused on Luna. But Luna couldn't get close without the beams vaporizing her. She needed a distraction.
"Rei! Give that asshole your attention!" Luna shouted.
"What?" Rei shouted.
Luna glared at Rei. Distract it so I can get close!
Okay! Rei waved her arms up. "Hey, you! Yeogi! Yeogi!"
When the floating cat head spun toward her, Rei pointed her thumbs at herself. "I'm the one you want! I failed your game, remember?" She then stuck up her middle fingers. "Come and get me!"
The giant head laughed. "You are a naughty Alice!"
Luna quickly dashed toward the head while it faced her partner. Once she reached the target, Luna dived onto the grass beneath the head. She aimed her railgun up and held onto the trigger as her electric projectile built up. "Off with your head!"
She released the trigger and blasted through the cat head. After the top exploded, Luna rolled away before the thing crashed down on top of her.
The cat's eyes exploded and smoke drifted from behind the head. It smelled like oil burning on plastic.
Rei ran toward Luna and helped her up. "Are you alright?"
Luna got to her feet and waved the smell away. "I'm fine."
Rei hugged Luna again. She rubbed her cheek against Luna’s chest. "Thank you for coming for me! Jenjang! I almost died!"
Luna rubbed Rei’s back. "Yeah, I always got your back."
After their embrace for a while, the catgirls turned toward the racked machine.
Luna switched her vision to x-ray and scanned the cat head. Through the mechanic interior, a body rested on a seat near a flight control panel, still moving. "Do you see him?"
"Ye ye," Rei answered.
Luna returned to her normal vision and held up her railgun. "I will pull the bastard out. This time, you will watch my back."
Rei nodded.
After the panther woman clambered onto the head, she spotted the hatch behind the cat's ears. The fractured hole where her blast blew from smoked close to the hatch. Her blast almost struck the pilot. Lucky bastard.
She grabbed the handle and yanked the round metal door off. Then she aims her gun at the dark interior. "Knock knock! Get your pussy ass out before I-"
Black smoke burst into her face. She coughed before she passed out on the ground.

Note to Reader: I understand this book is not for everyone, if there is a writer that can write to please everyone, I have never heard of them. The MC can be frustrating in his decisions as he learns to grow and accept what and who he is. I believe this reality is unavoidable. That being said, if you feel the need to give a review, please do so, just know that I will report you if all that review seems to do is blab toxic language and insult my literary choices without giving constructive advice or alternatives. That's not just a me policy, that's a policy of this website. I'm not writing this note because I'm a writer who does not acknowledge that there are faults in my work. I know there are. That's what happens when it hasn't been professionally edited by someone other than the author. I'm saying this because I'm sick of reading 1 star or 0.5 star rated reviews that seem to do nothing but hate on the book because they don't like the story. No comments on grammar, ways to improve or suggestions for better story arcs. Just plain hate. It's not on, and I frankly shouldn't have to write this note, but needed to get it off my chest. In saying all that, thank you to those who do leave reviews that don't fall into the above category. Your appreciation of my work, or alternatively, your willingness to give advice for improvement, is appreciated.

Recovery of a Life
The prince of a kingdom was erased from the world. His very existence an enigma. Follow Xopil as he forces his life into a world that refuses to acknowledge his presence. I tried to write a novel without including all the standard things you find in certain genres, or if it is included, I hope it's at least a fresh take on it, this includes me breaking the fourth wall, probably too much. I'm wondering if that helped with humor at all, and also reconsidering if that should be a part of the story. I'm going to be rewriting every chapter at this point... and that chapter I'm extremely disappointed with could likely be deleted if not redone entirely. Now that this story is marked 'completed', I'll be going through each chapter and fleshing out the story a bit, as I found it severely lacking, and I've been saying to myself "I could have done more with that." way more often than I should be. And that speaks to my own dissatisfaction with my writing. I make no warranty-express or implied-as to the quality of these chapters, or the story as a whole. Cover art by Roman Valeyev
