《Bounty Cats》Book Three: Chapter 6

Rei walked through a dark tunnel, patched with gray bricks glued by cement between the blocks. It could be connected to the sewers beneath the theme park, or part of an abandoned contraption that wasn't finished.
The Cheshire Cat couldn't be the only one who built the labyrinth in secret. Someone else had to build it under his orders.
Mr.Dreams must be the suspect. He suggested Rei and Rally visit the funhouse in the isolated section. If he didn’t know, then why would he send Rei and Rally to the funhouse? He must be connected to the Cheshire Cat somehow.
The speaker above her clicked. "Are you crying, Alice?"
Rei glared at the ceiling. "No!"
"Then you better run. The flood is coming!"
Rei’s ears twitched when rushing water roared behind her. When she turned around, the cold water splashed into her face.
The water pushed through her through the tunnel like a giant firehose. She coughed and slapped her hands through the water. Every time she opened her mouth, the water kept touching her tongue. This was why she hated waterparks.
Toward the end, Rei fell down and landed on a wet marble floor. The water stopped, leaving her in a puddle.
She coughed and rose to her feet to look around. A round platform rested at the center inside a blue room. Five animatronic creatures stood on the platform. A fox, rabbit, mouse, pig, and a dodo standing in the center. The contraption appeared to be a carousel without any horses to sit on.
"You look wet, my Alice," the Cheshire Cat echoed. "You need to dry off."
Rei rubbed the water off her drenched short hair. "I can do it myself.”
"Hehehe. No, you must do the caucus race on that platform."

Rei observed the platform again. She scanned it, finding mechanical gears below multiple turntables. The entire platform was built to spin around. "Is this another puzzle?"
"You must run in circles with the animals," the Cheshire Cat instructed. "Hop on so you will begin."
"Is there a point to this?"
The Cheshire Cat laughed. "This is Wonderland. What point will you find?"
Rei thinned her lips. “Can I at least get a hint?”
“Keep running, until you know what the animals are afraid of.”
What are the animals afraid of?
The platform shook and the animatronics spun around in circles. Each animal has a stick attached beneath them to the floor, moving them around.
Rei immediately leaped onto the platform. One of the animals hit her, knocking her to the floor.
She landed on all-fours and quickly jumped back up. She has to run, or else the animals will crash into her.
She ran behind the gray mouse, keeping up with its pace. If she kept following the mouse, she wouldn't run off the platform by accident.
"Keep running, my Alice," said the speaker from above. "The animals are running faster and faster."
The mouse sprinted and the pig bumped into Rei. She dashed faster so she wouldn't lose the mouse.
She kept running without thinking how much time the animatronics ran. But glancing at the spinning walls was making her head spin.
"Can you run all night or find what will scare the animals away?" The Cheshire Cat asked.
Running and thinking wasn't Rei’s cup of tea. She couldn't focus while running for her life. But she has to figure out the clue or the animals will keep knocking her down.
Something purple flew past her. She activated her scanner, keeping her cybernetic eyes on the spinning wall.

With a camera snap, Rei barely caught the purple image and saved it on a separate screen. It appeared to be a purple cat face with a grin.
The idea flashed inside Rei's head. "Cat?"
The animatronics suddenly stopped and fell to the ground. The platform soon stopped rumbling.
“Correct. The animals are afraid of a cat.” The speaker chuckled. “You may enter the next door.”
On the wall, another hidden door opened, releasing purple light from a dark tunnel. Rei jumped off the platform and strolled toward the exit. Why didn’t the animals drop when I ran with them? I’m a cat too!
At least she got dried off.
*****
Luna woke up as her head spun inside her skull. It almost felt like she woke up from a hangover.
She shook her head and looked around. She found herself inside a metal chamber with one door. Rust coated the entire interior, except on the gray floor.
Where the hell am I?
As she sat up, someone groaned in front of her. "Rally?"
The German shepherd man sat up near the corner. He rubbed his eyes and blinked at her. "Luna?"
"What the hell are you doing here?"
Rally glared at her. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"I was looking for the bounty here!" Luna pointed her finger at him. "Were you and Rei making out here?"
Rally's body shook. "Huh? No! I remembered we were walking into a funhouse before we blacked out. But we didn't have sex!"
Luna shrugged, although she doesn't trust him. Right now their situation was more important than her thoughts on Rally. "Where's Rei?"
Rally rubbed his forehead. "I don't know… Whoever caught us, probably has her."
"Shit!" Luna suspected the bounty captured them at the funhouse. It must be the place where he caught his victims. "We gotta get the hell out of here!"
Rally approached the door and pulled on it. "It's locked."
Luna spotted a ventilation shaft on the ceiling. "How about up there?"
Rally glanced at the vent. “We can try. Who’s going up first?”
“You go. I don’t want your face touching my ass.”
Rally crossed his arms with a grin. “What if your face touches my ass?”
Luna growled. “Just hop on my back and I will lift you up!”
“Okay.” Rally approached her as she kneeled down beneath the vent.
With his balance, Rally stepped onto her back with his arms out. The panther pushed him up on all fours until his hands grabbed the shaft.
“I got it!” Rally pulled the shaft out and dropped it to the floor.
Suddenly, green gas exploded into his face from the vent. He fell to the floor as the gas flooded the room.
“Not again!” Luna coughed before she passed out.
