Luna and Rei raced toward a dock near the edge of the water. The guard behind them screamed and drowned in the splash. Apparently, the damn thing got him, too.

"Keep moving!" Luna reached the dock first and climbed onto it. Then she grabbed Rei and pulled her up from the water. Both of them should be safe on the dock from the slime monster.

"What now?" Rei asked, out of breath, panting.

Luna aimed her gun at the water. Her x-ray vision zoomed in on the dark surface. "I still can't find the damn thing! We have to stay up here."

"Gwaenchanh-a." Rei shook her body, sprinkling the drench off her fur.

Luna scanned around the water as the quietness filtered her ears. Beneath the water, a shadow crawled below the surface quickly.

A fish? No…..

Too flat and enormous to be a-

Luna gasped and stepped back. “It’s in the water. I couldn’t see it because it is invisible!”

“Did you tried all your cybernetic enhanced visions?” Rei asked.

Luna snarled. “Yeah! I think the son of a bitch is camouflaging in the water. His temperature is extremely low too.”

Rei gulped. “So we can’t see it at all?”

Luna bit her lip and stared at the dial on her gun. “Just zap the water. That should fry its ass.”

“Good idea!” Rei shot one bolt into the water, and then the surface lit up like a flashing disco ball.

The creature screamed and rose over the dock like a tribal wave. It charged into Rei and dived into the other side while taking her with it. She screamed before the blob swallowed her up.

“Rei!” Luna shot ice blasts into the water, but the thing vanished into the darkness. “F**k!”

She dived into the water past the ice surface. She looked around and spotted the thing carrying Rei’s body toward an open vent.

With her gun out, she blasted an electric bolt, not caring whether it will zap her and Rei too. Everything flashed as pain burned throughout her body.

Then her whole vision shut down.

Luna coughed out water after someone punched her stomach, and a bright light shined over her face. It took her a moment to realize she was back in the concrete room.

“Are you alright?” Corg’s voice asked.

Luna growled as she rose on a bed, rubbing her eyes. “I’m fine….. I-”

The memory of Rei being taken away flashed back inside her head. She remembered diving into the water and foolishly shot a bolt that knocked her out.

“Rei!” She tried to get up, but the pig pushed her down.

“Easy! You just drowned,” said Corg. “You need to take some time to recover.”

Luna coughed. “My partner! Is she here?”

The pig shook his head. “I’m sorry…..”

Luna closed her eyes and hissed through her fangs. “Damnit!”

She punched the wall, hearing it cracked a bit. “That thing got her….. I couldn’t…..”

The pig rubbed her shoulder. “It isn’t your fault. But we didn’t find her body. Maybe she-”

Luna shot her glaring eyes at him. “How can you be sure? That thing probably killed her already!”

“I lost many friends down here before. When they vanished, I send a few teams out to search for their bodies. That helps me believe they are dead or alive. You can still do the same thing for your partner.”

Luna knew the blob always killed its victims when it attacks. Why would it keep Rei alive after taking her away?

If Rei is dead, Luna still couldn’t give up her mission. She must move on, no matter what.

“I will still hunt that thing and make it pay for what it did to my partner,” she said in her sharp tone. “But I will be grateful if you can help me find it in your sewers.”

Corg nodded. “I will do that for my people’s sake. Whatever you need, I will provide it for you.”

Luna smirked. Hold on, kitty. I will find you, whether you are dead or alive.
